  1. Come on, China Airlines and Eva are the best airlines that run AMS-BKK direct. (Or AMS-CNX rather :D )

Cheap Charlie options IMHO. KLM Business class only for me. Some of my collegues tell me EVA business class is also OK though never tried it. CI - foget about that; I have a couple of Taiwanese friends who work for CI - way too much information.......

Both are pretty good airlines these days.

These passengers wouldn't agree with you:

    post-42325-1228199380_thumb.jpg

7 major crashes and 747 dead passengers in the last 20 years, old planes and very poor service . What's "pretty good" about that? :D

No problem for the Dutch, it is cheap, you know :D:o

Just got back and real happy to be home i agree with the poster the airline is Shiiiiit terrible service food stinks plane are Shiiit and very old inflight entertainment is abismal and no personal screens really the worst airline I have flown and I have travelled hundreds of thousands of airmiles only reason its direct to AMS that I use it hopefully I wont become the 748th fatality at least for teh next 4 months anyway LOL

BTW this is farang cravings chiang mai foxy left there account open at N1 being a nice fella i shall close it for them

  2. will this game be on any channel in thailand,i know its on star sports with the exception of thailand!!!!!

    thanks

ps game kicks off today at 7 15pm thai time

  3. hi guys,

im coming to thailand for around 6 month - 1 year

just booked my flight with travelbag to thailand for end of june(emirates £600 Return)

the guy on the phone quoted me over £400 for travel insurance!!!

i Paid £70 last time for annual travel insurance, but found out this ony applies to maximum of 30day trips at a time.

so i went to the moneysavingexpert website, and they advise moneysupermarket(comparism Website)

    quoted around £200 (Club direct,Columbus Direct)moneysupermarket exclusive

the cover seems a bit excessive ,but still cheap compared to others.

    ie medical expenses £10 million

    personal liability £2 million

just wondering, where do you guys travelling on long holidays (6 months or so) get your single trip insurance from in the uk,

    and what is the premium?

    many thanks

  4. Here's a weird fact: you can get Dengue only in the daytime. The Dengue carrying mosquito is a very small, striped, fast little bastard active only in the daytime. Those big suckers you zap with electonic tennis rackets are not Dengue carriers. You must be careful if you have any standing water on or near your property. Old fahioned Thai bathrooms with big tubs of water for showering are especially dangerous as are flower pots. You can get packets of mosuito larve killing powder form any hospital for free. You should dump the powder in standing water once a month. There are 4 types of Dengue. If you get one type you become immune to it for life. But there are three other types out there. I got malaria during the Vietnam war and Dengue last year in Rayong. Both are nasty but I'll take Dengue anyday over Malaria.

i had many jabs in england in december, just before arrived for xmas in thailand.

    think i had typhoid,dengue,hepatitis,yellow.

so is getting vaccinated for dengue in the uk,not enough to stop the possibility of catching in thailand?

  5. hi guys,

gonna be coming back to thailand for a long holiday (up to a year or so) and

was wondering how cheap consoles are,and where to buy in c mai.

ps2's for instance cost less than £50 now in the uk.

must admit never seen an x box 360 in cmai, nor a ps3 for that fact.

any one any ideas on the price of a ps2 and also games.

    thanks

  6. I have been coming to Thailand for about 10 years now, And over the past 3-4 years the flight prices have really shot up, Now i'm paying a minimum of £650+ (End of July and Xmas periods) :o . And i am booking my flights 1 year in advance!

I fly either from Manchester or Humberside, Humberside if i can afford it because that is right near me, But they usually costs £800+ :D ,

Can any of you direct me to the online travel agents that you use, If you are getting flights from Manchester or Humberside cheaper then £650? Because i hear there are still flights to Thailand for £400-£500ish, But i can't ever seem to find them anywhere, Even after searching many hours everyday for weeks.

I always book 1 year in advance too so i should be able to somehow get a cheaper flight,

I use opodo, southall, Ebookers etc etc but i'm not getting very good prices like i use to. Also i can't change my dates of departure as i only have a 2 week shut down at work at the end of July and over Xmas/New year, Yes i know these are the most dear times but still, There must be a cheaper option, Or is that all in the past now :D

i just booked my flight this morning with travelbag (same as ebookers)

leaving in 3 weeks with emirates from manchester.not sure when im returning to the uk,so i just booked a return in february, which i will change for £75 when i know when im coming back to uk.

seems a good deal considering its an 8 month ticket.(PRICE £604 Return)

apparantly some new deals with emirates came out 2 day.

you can also get etihad for a similar price in june.

i never book more than 3 months in advance(except if travelling at christmas) as the prices tend to drop in my experience with these two airlines.

  7. hi guys,

seems buying a one way ticket is alot more expensive in the long run as buying a normal 2 way ticket.(eg £450 one way,£650 Return)

my question is - i always fly from manchester with emirates or etihad(my preffered airline),

due to me not knowing when i will return (could be 6 months - 1 year),is it possible to book an open ticket,

whereby i choose my return date when i wanting to come home.cannot find any info anywhere on the said airlines websites.

    thanks

  8. Not sure which specific website he uses, but I believe that you should be able to find it if you Google 'sopcast'

    http://www.myp2p.eu/index.php?part=sports

    this site is the best.

every football game live, and every televised sport from around the world.

stream are usually from asia, america and the uk (sky for leeds final) espn's,star sports, ubc truesports, fox soccer, supersports, sky etc

they work through engines, such as sopcast, tvu etc

all you need for live sport is here,1000s of members already(you only have to register if you want to use the forum)

very well run,and many links for all sports, especially football worldwide.

    enjoy

  9. hi all,

coming to los for 6-9 months at end of june(non imm multi o visa)

now im not sure what is my best bet for monetary options,as my longest stay previous has been 6 week.s

i have always used travellers cheques(due to them being the safest to use)

is it safer to carry on using t cheques,or would one recommend using a card.

are credit/debit cards safe in thai atms,as i worry if i have a problem i am up the creek as opposed to t cheques.

i know credit cards are more convenient, and would use if safe,as i dont fancy bring about £15000 of t cheques.

my debit card is a maestro current account from yorkshire bank.i cannot find anything on their website

telling me what charges for using abroad.

iv thought about bringing say £5000 in t/c as well as the card.

    any advice would be welcome.

    thankyou

  10. You have to report your address every 90 days of staying in Thailand. It is easy and free and you can do it at any Immigration office. Including Krabi if they have an office.,

    Oh really....I never knew that!

im coming soon to chiang mai on a non imm multi O visa,i thought i only had to do the border run every 3 months,

didnt realise i had to report my address also.

so do i just go to immigration just before every border run,

with my passport and visa? what exactly is it for/do they do? so they know you are still in the country.

    thanks

  11. Chiangmai Foxy, in my opinion your best option, unsure as yet of your period of stay in Thailand, is a multiple-entry non-immigrant visa category O. Purpose of visit: “visit friends”. Apply not at the consular section of the Thai embassy in London, but at an honorary Thai consulate, eg the consulate in Hull. Application can be made by mail.

    --

    Maestro

    ok,thanks.

how would the "o" work.ie how long would i get maximum, can i still do border runs to extend etc.and when completed can i get a new visa in laos

    Edit

sorry iv found the info.non imm o gives me 12 months, leaving thailand every 3 months.max stay 15 months

As you say. Non Imm O Multi Entry from Hull.

Each stay up to 90 days. Do a border run just before it expires and it stretches out to 15 months.

Apply by post. Look at the website.

    http://www.thaiconsul-uk.com/visas1.asp

thanks, thats what i will get.i take it its best to apply for visa a few weeks before leaving,as not to lose too many visa weeks.is it common to book a flight and then have this type of visa turned down,as that would ruin the ticket and leave people in stum!

btw when i book the flight,do i need a return ticket even though the return date is not known.i have even been told it is popular for people to book another onward flight on the ticket for ie a few week after arriving, then just cancel after arriving in thailand.or can i just book a one way ticket or even an open return?

    thanks

  13. Hi Guys,

I have read and read many visa pages, and am still unsure what to do.

    my situation is -

i am quitting my job in around 3 months, and really need your help on which visa i need to have a "long Holiday" with many friends already in thailand, for maybe up to a year or so.

i have never obtained a visa before, just had 7 holiday of between 20 and 35 days.

my last 2 being - 35 days in dec/jan 08 (included 7 days extra at c mai immigration)

and 4 weeks april 2008(included a visa run to myanmar 2 weeks into holiday, but had to return to work,so no extra days used)

so the 90 day rule would include some of my previous 2 visit i guess?

alot of people say to get a non imm multi b visa? and something about an onward ticket needed, which you just cancel after arrival in thailand!

some people even say to just get a 60 day visa and do 2 visits to laos and get 3 months extra twice, giving 8 months.

really confused what to do,just wanting to come for a long holiday, not to work.

many people i know have stayed on holiday for over a year, and i really dont know how they manage it.

    really hope someone can help.

    many thanks

  14. I need to catch a RT flight to Bangkok , however the time of the flights is the most important and not so much the costs since it is work related.

However Since the the travel agents dont sell tickets for the budget airlines like Air Asia, Nok and 12 Go I can only have an agent quote me from the major airlines.

I know I can go online to each website but this practically requires making a spread sheet. :o

Does anyone have a schedule of the ALL the flights leaving Phuket TO Bangkok and Return or know where I can find this? would be most useful.

    Thanks in advance.

  15. "But Chiang Mai it seems... dead. Or comatose at the very least. "

Normally I don't go out often at night time. but since my wife spent the weekend with her family in Bangkok and I felt bored at home alone. I ventured friday and saturday night into the nightlife of Chiang Mai. Now I must admit the quote above is absolutly true.

I checked out the the Peak area, almost no customers. I checked out the beer bars next to this Thai boxing place in a soi attached to Loy Kroh again very few customers. Then I looked at the girlie bars along Loy Kroh, again very few if at all any customers.

Also Moon Muang, Soi 2 was dead.

The only places which had a lot of customers were the bars directly at the night baazar, like Hofbrauhaus and Red Lion and John's Place at Moon Muang. Also Spotlight was doing quite fine.

Since I don't like karaoke and too old for discos I went home earlier as I had intented.

    that is quiet!

i spent a month in c mai dec/jan and must say it was the quietest xmas in c mai for a good few years.

i always find the same places doing the best business - number1 bar, spotlight, hot shots, red lion(at night),sp*cy,lucky bar(after3am).as for the peak, always quiet except the peak pool bar now and again.just too many bars in the 'falang areas'.

obviously if you want mainly thais and busy, then places like - monkey club, warm up,hot shots, bangrak, fashion house,v club etc are the places.

im back at songkran,my first one 4 years ago was so so busy and fun, particulary around the moat(kotchasarn and moonmuang)

then last year it was real quiet, not sure what to expect this year.maybe bad press coupled with pollution,or people just tying other places or even earlier closing.

as long as c mai never ends up like,or attracts hoards or pattaya, benidorm, blackpool scumbag chavs, then c mai will never lose its appeal,no matter how many people are staying away.

roll on songkran - so cold in leeds!!!!

  16. What days does CM celebrate the holiday as I understand different cities in Thialand celebrate on various days. Thanks

    officially 13th - 15th i think.

in c mai i think it will be more like 12 - 16th

    enjoy

  17. has anyone tryed the convenient resort as listed above?http://www.asiatravel.com/thailand/prepaid...sort/index.html .

im looking at stopping over for 1 night, this hotel looks quite good with good reviews, and only 5 mins away from airport.

also, where in the airport after arriving(international) do i go to book a hotel for 1 night, are there many kiosks about after clearing imm,as its looks highly likely i will need a stopover for 1 night, unless i clear imm/customs in less than 45 mins.

    thanks

  18. hi ... im arriving Bangkok 6.40pm local time on 2nd January 2008

I am trying to book a guesthouse in changmai, and they are wanting to know what time I will be arriving in chang mai, my problem is .. im not sure how long its going to take to clear Bangkok immigration control, So i could be getting there quite late

does anyone have any experience of arriving through bangkok customs at this time of year, and a list of the three flights leaving Bangkok to chang mai after 6.40pm with any airlines you are aware of

I have asked this before ... but im just after updated info and a more clear picture

    thanks

    2 flights after 6 40pm from -

suvarnabhumi 8 40 pm air asia

don muang 9 30pm thai airways

i also land at 6 40pm a few weeks earlier.gonna be very tight to make a flight the same night,as a busy time for immigration at a guess, emirates also land at around the same time, along with others.

you probably will need to stay in bangkok for the night.

you could be in chiang mai whatever time you wish the following day.

    see domesticflightsthailand.com for flight times.

    all the best
