  1. While you pay for the new passport via Pay.Gov., you will also be asked to also pay the embassy 100 baht to cover the cost for the embassy to mail to you via EMS both the new and voided old passports. The embassy required a Thai bank draft but give you instructions on how it is completed. It took my bank KB an hour to digest and produce the draft as I don't think it has ever been done. There was a minor charge for the draft. Include the draft in your mailing - you'll have a bank copy. The embassy used a printed portion of your completed DS82 showing your Thai mailing address taped to the mailer envelope. Note the embassy advises that ONLY Thailand Post and DHL will be accepted for receipt of your current passport. However, according to DHL Thailand it does not do Thailand deliveries and especially passports; only to foreign destinations. DHL E-Commerce does handle Thai deliveries via an online account but I was told by phone contact that it will refuse handling a passport because they don't want the liability if it's lost. "It's too much of a risk." I used Thailand Post but be aware you may be asked to show your passport as ID which is in the mailer! I showed my Thai driver license that has my passport no., explaining my envelope has my passport to be replaced. Not a problem. I also have mobile photos of my "old" passport. Note that you will also need an embassy certification to allow Thailand immigration to transfer applicable current stamps (start-end visa period, any multiple re-entry permits, etc.) in your "old' passport to your new passport. Mention this need in your mailer for old passport/DS82 to the embassy. The embassy will include it in the mailer to you included with your new and old passports. There was no charge. I also had several immigration items stapled in my old passport that needed to be placed in the new passport as well. Caveat. This was my experience.
  2. Sponsored by Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) located at 18th floor, Chamchuri Square Building (MRT Sam Yan Station). https://www.thaievisa.go.th/ltr-visa https://www.thaiembassy.com/thailand-visa/thailand-long-term-resident-ltr-visa Several Thai law firms can assist with the application - just Google them. I did my own from Thailand applying as Pensioner, switching from non O-A. LTRbrochure_EN.pdf
  3. 50,000 baht covers 10-yr visa
  4. For an honest description, the Thai military might be called Buddhist terrorists suppressing a Muslim nation. Same as Ukrainian soldiers fighting for their homeland, its traditions and culture being called 'terrorists/-insurgents' by the Russian government who calls its own military soldiers 'heroes.' Similar to Russia that claims areas of Ukraine invaded and occupied by Russia 2014-present become part of Russian sovereignty, thus defending against Russia amounts to an insurgency. Read among the many academic papers of similar topic "The failure of peace negotiations process between government of Thailand and Revolution National Front (BRN) in Southern Thailand Conflict (Patani)"* by Naeem Hayipiyawong. *aka Kingdom of Patani Caliphate
  5. If you have a Long Term Resident Visa based on retirement, you get as a benefit renewable multiple re-entry permit stamped in your passport.
  6. I agree with all you say but the reality is the unelected Senate has a majority pro-military contingent. The military was apparently not satisfied with the pre-coup 2007 Constitution that provided for a 50% elected Senate. Corruption can run more unabated in government when it extends into the judiciary, the 'congress,' and various so-called anti-corruption oversight organizations. The "Deep State" in Thailand is very deep and broad. And frankly no peaceful democratic process can truly affect it. So nice the woman senator "lashes" but a song bird's tweet is about as useful.
  7. It's always worth a try if only to make the military transparent in its efforts to control the electorate through psychological devices (ie., hostage) taking of their young. But expect the unelected Constitutional Court to hold that volunteer military is unconstitutional.
  8. Thankfully no Thai ships sunk in defense.
  9. Prawit looks like Humpty Dumpty sitting in on a wall. I wonder if he asked everyone to raise their fist so he could see who has a better watch.
  10. "Thailand turns to China for GDP growth in 2023" Sadly, this direction seems driven mostly by political alignment/(vassal state) loyalty and not by rational indeoendent economics. from https://trading economics.com (Asia Region) China's GDP Annual growth rate forecast for 2023/2024 is 2.9% vs Thailand 4.5% Compare to India @ 6.30%, Malaysia @ 14.2%, Indoneasia @ 5.7%, Philippines @ 7.6% Most of the Americas and European regions are below 5% 'eyeball average'. Regardless, we will probably hear the same turn to Russia forecasting -3.7% (negative growth). Overall, I'd say based on current forecasts from the aforementioned reference, there doesn't seem to be no predictable reliable success with a single country's projected GDP growth rate. Even the G20 as a whole falls generally below 5%. As such Thailand must act independently (with all the attendent political risks* for the welfare of its citizens) to pursue its own economic agenda. To quote the US Marine philosophy to problem solution: 'improvise, adapt and overcome." Some of Thailand's historical and seemingly continued weaknesses. * ie., loss of power
  11. There is Western Union both online and physical locations throughout Bangkok maybe elsewhereq. Comparing Wise to WU the former is much more cheaper.
  12. If the rate is based on baht per km, when you enter the taxi shouldn't you see the rate for the first km? Out by Rama 2 it's been 35 baht (up through today) so if the taxi now shows a higher rate, the meter has been adjusted?
  13. BOI is located on the 18th floor of the Chumchuri Square Bldg. Across the hall from Immigration. Check in with BOI and an agent will escort you to necessary Immigration stations, one if which is dedicated solely to LTR Visas. First floor is Starbucks and several banks/ATMs. Square lies at the Sam Yan MRT station. Got my LTR Visa in November 2022 and must report in person for residence November 2023.
  14. For any purchase 20,000 baht or more COD is not an option. Not sure 'never works' entailed but it wasn't any effort to send a copy of passport and bank passbook via email to Lazada to activate the account. Talk to Lazada customer agent. Having the wallet facilitates both purchase and refunds.
  15. Should be named the Thai-Myanmar Coup Friendly Bridge.
  16. Just Googled it and find the A2 shuttle bus (air conditioned blue & orange buses) goes from airport to Victory Monument via BTS Mo Chit and MRT Chatuchak Park. See route map. Shows bus leaves/arrive at northwest side of monument circle. https://nonstopasia.com/a2-bus-don-mueang-to-victory-monument/
  17. Whether she wins or she loses, she can buy real estate in the US.
  18. Good luck mailing it back and being acknowledged in SS system. I mailed (via EMS that only tracks to US port of enty) my first 7162 in July 2022, then got another in December 2022. Mailed that via DHL to a US friend who remailed it USPS certified to the SS post office box. USPS tracked delivery and receipt to SS. Called SS* this month who could not find my updated 7162's in their system. The agent said that their system does not show any action to suspend my SS so I'm ok. ??!? I will call SS again next month. * 800-772-1213 M-F 9am-4pm EST; W 9am-noon EST.
  19. Get the K-Plus app for your mobile phone, have your KB debit card registered at KB for mobile online use, make sure your card payment/withdrawal limits suffice fir your intentions. Br8ng passport. Activate Lazada Wallet in the Lazada app. Refunds are made to the Wallet shown in your app by Lazada and can quickly be transferred to your KB account. Note that to activate wallet you must take a mobile picture of your original passport. My 2023 passport had so many new complex anti-photo devises to cause blur and glare - would not be accepted. Eventually Lazada sent me an email requesting copy of photo of passport and KB passport page showing account, then activating the Wallet.
  20. There's nothing more deserving than having a close trade and security relationship with a country that sells drones to Russia so it can kill Ukrainian civilians, destroy infrastructure, power and water facilities. Remembering that Thailand became part of the Axis alliance in WW2 as a result of its surrender to the Japanese, no surprise.
  21. "Defense volunters" are better called 'paramilitary.' They are essentially paid mercenaries for the Thai military. They have access to RTM armory and bases. They do not defend Muslim institutions and its people from forced integration into Thai Buddhist traditions and culture. They take their orders from Thailand"s Internal Security Operations Command, the political arm of the Royal Thai Military. Basically the RTM uses defense volunteers as "cannon fodder" on patrols so as to not endanger RTM soldiers.
  22. Defending the sovereignty of your nation is terrorism? Read the history of the Kingdom of Patani. The Kingdom of Siam/Thailand invaded the caliphate and forcibly annexed it into Siam/Thailand. Dominated by Budhists. Very similar to what Russia is now attempting with its invasion of Ukraine. Russia calls Ukrainian soldiers "terrorists" too for attacking Russia.
  23. Check to see if you qualify for a Long Term Resident visa, 10 years in two 5-year segments, annual (vs 90-day) notification of residence, no re-entry permit required at airport. Total cost 50k baht. Four different categories- one might fit you: Remote workers working for well-established companies overseas. https://ltr.boi.go.th/page/ltr-brochure.html
  24. I'm sure Malaysia would not reject Muslim refugees seeking asylum. While Thailand won't provide asylum as a matter of foreign policy resulting in chase, jail, physical abuse, deportation, etc., just publically and safely arrange a government escort for them through Thailand to Malaysia (assuming pre-approval by Malaysian government)? Win-win. Or would such State generosity contrary to Buddhist philosophy trigger China's displeasure? Duh.
  25. In a country where no expense is spared by the State to provide the military annually with expensive aircraft, ships and ground vehicles, have you ever seen a State-owned (Minister of Education?) school (yellow) bus designed to safely transport students? No excuse.
