Ubderstand that the Russian super yachts owned by Russian oligarchs identified as Putin political supporters are being impounded by nations for which a majority of UN members support. These yachts are symbols of a fascist state that is conducting an undeclared war against a neighboring peaceful democratic nation, inflicting billions of dollars destroying Ukraine's infrastructure, committing war crimes against citizens and forcing annexation into the Russian state. As such sale of the Russian oligarch yachts not only punishes Putin's oligarch but might go to Ukraine as reparations and other nations who will suffer from Russia's blackmail retaliation by cutting off oil and gas supplies. Imposing a super tax on berthing fees on billionaires doesn't change the political narrative and conceding to Russian terrorism. In some nations (ie., Thailand) an asset that represents the proceeds of illegal activity require only a warrant for seizure and disposition. Some seizures and sale of sanctiobed Russian super yachts have no political agenda. The sales proceeds from sized Axioma* of $37.5m were used for the benefit of investment bank JP Morgan which was owed for its loans to the oligarch's investment company. Because of the UN sanctions against Russia, the oligarch could not service the JPM loans because JPM could not legally accept payments. Not all sanctioned yachts are seized and sold. For some sanctioned oligarchs (determined country by country), yachts remain in oligarch ownership but are secured from leaving their berths to where some were forced to dock. Cases in point: Sechin and Mordsahov. *Original name "Red Square" - would not be very appropriate in today's world.

60-year-old Russian tourist drowns at Phuket beach
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
The foreigner was found "unconscious" on the beach. "Unconscious" is a state of not being awake and not aware of things around you. Such a person is unresponsive and cannot be woken. What matters then is whether there are signs of life such as blood pressure (ie., greater than 90/60mmHg), core body temperature (above 37.3 degree C), skin color (ie., livor mortise with bluish-purple skin discoloration) etc. As such the subject foreigner cannot said to be found dead, albeit he might be in a nonreversable path to death too late for revival. "Unconscious" is not a state of death. -
Thai PM proposes strategic partnerships between ASEAN and US
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Some Thailand ideas of 'strategic': Human Rights no Invasion of peaceful democratic countries yes Make Free Trade Agreenents yes Compliance with Free Trade Agreenents no Massive foreign investments in Thailand without conditions yes Military coups to replace democratic elected governments yes Avoid CPTPP membership that excludes China maybeee, maybe not Support China Silk Road economic plan yes etc. -
Not to worry. Swedish PEVs out number petrol autos and Sweden joins leader Norway and runner-up Iceland. Within 12 to 18 months Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands are trending the same result - out number petrol autos; Germany same by mid-2023. In 2022 petrol autos held about 41% and total PEVs about 22% of UK passenger registrations. I expect EVs to surpass petrol car registrations. PEVs don't use connecting rods not to mention most all of an ICE. Both your Swedish and UK companies are heading towards obsolescence. So not to worry about connecting supplies.

I have no idea about Doi Intanon. I only post what I can prove or quote. That said I searched and find that the Doi Chong national park used to be the Royal Thai Air Force telecommunications station and that it subsequently built the Great Holy Relics Pagodas. As fees are charged to the visiting public to the park, its various man-made attractions and conveniences, there seems a likelihood that the military owns and benefits finacially from the property (ie., vs the Thai Treasury). 2 years ago the Parliament required the military to submit all the commercial enterprises it directly or indirectly controlled and the military agreed; but to date it never responded. The Thai Parliament has no power to investigate the government, ie., through supoenas.

30,000 police deployed for APEC Summit in Bangkok
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
PM Prayut supervises the RTP and chairs the Police Commission himself. So perhaps a coup exercise? -
Northbridge is hardly the epicenter of Malay Muslims that is the majority faith in Southern Thailand. But given the current on-going insurrection of Malay Muslims in the Southern provinces (still under military State of Emergency?), admiration of the Thai government might not have been well received.

Dividend tax from own company?

The 'modern' RTP is nationalized under the control of the Office of the Prime Minister and comprises 30 bureaus and 6 divisions to cover 77 provinces in a country of 70 million (2021). It originated in 1455 during Rama IV reign and designed by an English vessel captain. see Google. As such, I view its laws, regulations and procedures are applied to the classic "one size fits all" law enforcement needs of every Thai community. A decentralized police force (ie., Provence, District, Sub-District, etc.) might better adjust and react to the security needs of local communities than the national Parliament and the PM. Note that the 50-state USA of 332 million (2021) does not have a national police force. The US police force is subdivided independently by state, county and 'incorporated' city. In contrast Switzerland of about 9 million (2021) has a police force subdivided by the 26 cantons. On the other hand, a single national police force might be convenient for any coup. It need only to control the head of government to assure cooperation.

Very appropriate for a nation that is a mystical democracy.

Xi Jinping To Give A Keynote Speech At Apec CEO Summit
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
December 23, 2014: " ... Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha paid a courtesy call on President Xi Jinping ... " https://www.mfa.go.th But the Thai Constitutional Court recently ruled that Prayut wasn't at that time officially PM. So in this recent meeting I wonder if Xi asked Prayut, 'Are you a PM yet? I've was and still am President of China. And all Chinese know that." -
Biden to join ASEAN summit, Harris to attend APEC
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The baht has proven stronger than the Japanese yen, Malaysian ringgit and Chinese yuan year-to-date. That's good for improving economic growth. But for Prayut's 8-year focus on economic growth largely dependent on Chinese tourism, there must be significant redirection for sources to drive economic growth, ie., more emphasis on export of goods & services. Thailand must also raise its bond yields. -
Biden to join ASEAN summit, Harris to attend APEC

Then he will tie the legislative successes achieved by the previous Republican controlled Congress under POTUS Trump. Zilch. -
Biden to join ASEAN summit, Harris to attend APEC
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That "country mile " came courtesy of former POTUS Trump. Trump pulled out of Obama's twelve nation Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal (not supported by Republican US Congress members) that specifically excluded China, causing China's economic influence (hence its political influence) to rise in the region. Jan. 2017 https://www.reuters.com/article/ Trump further damaged international US economic ties & political strength with four year war of tariffs. Now China is facing some of its greatest economic growth challenges, high national debt and virtual collapse of its Silk Road economic strategy. The US is still an international economic powerhouse with the world's largest economy since 1871. Now seems a good opportunity for the US to get back into Asian economies. 3 core strategies...? Absent building a better democratic and moralistic society, free and open elections, fully elected Parliament, publically elected judicial system, a military under civilian control, etc. Household debt to GDP reached an all time high of 91% in the fourth Quarter 2021. 79% of rural areas remain poor with unequal distribution with the South and Northeast having almost the poverty rate at the national level. Oct. 2022 https://www.worldbank.org/en/news Eight years in "office" and Prayut misses the mark. But he desires re-election for 4 more years?

Thai F-16 Fighters In Recon Mission Along Border With Myanmar
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Why bother - the recon mission is just politics. July 2022 "PM says incursion of Myanmar jet into Thai airspace not a big deal" https://www.thaipbsworld.com So the Myanmar junta took Thailand's junta leader Prayut at his word. As Prayut has said, the two countries enjoy good relations (my note: as does Thailand with Russia). What is more innocent than Mynamar jets using Thai air space to circle around to make staffing runs against schools and civilians in Mynamar? -
Bangkok governor faces his first setback from the City Assembly
Srikcir replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
As China has discovered, these passenger light rail systems are not economically sustainable without massive government subsidies. It's current total debtis about $842 billion USD! Yet the government wants to further expand its HS rail system. Sept. 2022 https://japan-forward.com I understand that BTS Group estimated that the sustainable fare of the entire Green Line Project from start to finish is about 158 baht. BMA wants to cap it at 65 baht. Regardless of the legality of BMA setting rates subsequent to project completion, not negotiating adequate rate fares BEFORE the Line construction begins seems foolish and cause for potential contractor bankruptcy. And abandonment of the Line operation due to a bankruptcy process creates a potential double public burden: unusable transportation while continuing to pay for it. Better BMA try to renegotiate a rate higher than 65 baht (100 baht?), subsidize the balance of the final rate higher than 65 baht, and suffer the political consequences. The newly elected Governor did not have any rate authority when the Extension was approved and operational. So much of any political backlash should belong to the previous Governor and his party affiliation. I give Chadchart kudos to bring Line fares affordable for the average Thai wage earner but "the horse has left the barn. " But a valuable lesson learned and should be applied to all future transportation projects including super highways and bridges! Economic viability of such transportation projects was required as a matter of law. But when the 2014 military coup took over the elected government, it used its absolute power to waive economic sustainability (ie., the so-called China-Thailand HS dual rail system). It seems this debt-creating approach has permiated throughout Thai governments and effectively bypassed Thai laws. -
There maybe another problem with foreigners purchasing Thai property under the subject new rules that appear to align with the new Long Term Resident visa. While a foreigner can inherent Thai land owned by a foreigner as a "statutory heir", he cannot register ownership of the land assuming he does not also qualify to own property under the Long Term Resident visa provisions. Under present law he must dispose of the "inherited" land within one year to a Thai national. So maybe there needs to be a stipulation in the inheritance laws that the 40 million investment value of the property inherited can qualify for legal and binding transfer to any foreigner under the same provisions of the 10-year LTR visa. Albeit there may still be some limitations, ie., minimum age (50 years old), that may need further review?

Where was the Crime Suppression Division when Genetal Prayut overthrew an elected government that would be treason under the then Constitution? Where was ANY law enforcement agency as well as prosecution and the courts whose silence in effect sanctioned a coup (13th after 1932) threatening any public opposition with violence and military trial? The "annoying habit" of democratic freedom of speech must be far more respected and sanctioned as to its consequences that the current Prayut government is unwilling to respect.
