  1. There is no history to back Xi's claim that Taiwan falls under CCP sovereignty. Just the opposite. '1937 interview with American journalist Edgar Snow, who quoted Mao as saying: “…we will extend them (the Koreans) our enthusiastic help in their struggle for independence. The same thing applies for Taiwan.” In fact Japan might have a better historical case for sovereignty over Taiwan. "1895 Peace Treaty of Shimonoseki ... decided that ... sovereignty over Taiwan would be transferred in perpetuity to Japan." May 3, 2022 https://thediplomat.com
  2. No. Thailand and China have known that since 1989 there has been an EU embargo on equipment/parts sold to China that has military use. That would include Germany's diesel engines for Chinese built subs. The surprise is that somehow Thailand or China thought they could get the EU to lift the ban.
  3. To be fair to all, why not have a UN peace keeping force patrol? UN might even foot the bill. Think of the revenue that such a force would bring to Thailand. Win-Win.
  4. But It's hard to take credit what you can't see.
  5. I read that expats are barred. It appears that the original registration deadline was Oct. 31st but extended 10 more days. I couldn't find in search an earlier announcement for the extension except an announcement made on Nov. 10th but maybe it was in the online vote instruction following Oct. 31st.
  6. "Opinion: Thailand’s new government falling short on military reform" ByArun Saronchai September 13, 2023 "As Democrat MP Chuan Leekpai rightly emphasized, the new government must diverge from past policies and make public welfare their central focus. A failure to meaningfully reform the military would not only belie Srettha’s promises but also cement his legacy as a leader who turned his back on a generation demanding change."
  7. If the stimulus increase domestic consumption, it will likely increase GDP growth if substantial. That in turn strengthens the baht.
  8. Tourists will chose security over affordability.
  9. PM Prayut actually wanted to copy China's cybersecurity system and likely similar to Putin's control of public media freedom of speech. "Thailand Set to Build China-like Internet Firewall" September 28, 2015 "Thailand: Cyber Crime Act Tightens Internet ControlSweeping Powers to Censor, Stifle Free Speech, Silence Critics" December 21, 2016 The question to be asked is to what extent the Thailand militaly has become a security threat?
  10. Nice change to see government holding public talks about an economic plan instead of military use of absolute power, ie., establish the EEC.
  11. I'm allergic to most beers but Rose Beer sounds interesting.
  12. Chinese brands accounted for over 70% of Thailand's EV sales. Nov. 9, 2023 https://English.news.cn Changan Ford Motor will own a 60% stake with Chongqing Changan Automobile owning 40%. Aug. 11, 2023 https://www.autonews.com But Changan Ford Motor is 50-50 owned between Ford Motor Co. and Changan Automobile. Will we see a Mustang Mach-E, a F-150 Lightning in Thailand? However, ominous horizons: Sales of Ford with Changan fell 12.6% in the first half from the year-ago period. There's an EV price war in China now. Aug. 12, 2023 https://www.reuters.com
  13. Is your domicile Thailand?
  14. Intentions are not achievements.
  15. The problem has been that Thai farmers cannot be self- sustaining when the world market price is too low. Thus, government subsidies and export barriers are created to boost farmer revenues that pay debts. In August 2023 due to rising food prices, high inflation and fear of rice shortage India banned exports of its non-basmati rice.
  16. Thai mercenaries (aka paramilitary) under the authority and control of the Thai army are busy enough fighting the Malay Muslim insurregncy in the South. No need to leave the country.
  17. Reminds me of the American Flying Nun tv sitcom. Funny and wholesome. Many video parodies of religious icons found on YouTube.
  18. Maybe better but naked in Thailand than but dead in the battlefields of Ukraine.
  19. "wife's ID" Is this a Thai passport, national ID card, Thai driver's license? I would expect DOB on all three. Does wife/gf have all three IDs? If missing on one can DOB be validated on the other two?
  20. Then that likely supports my comment. Pay Thai tax and get a benefit. Albeit, you pay tax on what - Thai income?
  21. Topic is related to proposed taxation of foreign resident's foreign income. And my comment is related to what Thai privileges comes with that proposed taxation. Seems you're getting free government medical coverage under a different premise. Maybe you can explain further.
  22. In the US states can set minimum wages higher than the federal rate. Over 20 states are set higher than federal minimum. Washington state is the highest set at $15.74/hr vs federally legislative rate of $7.25/hr.
  23. Typical one-size fits all approach. For example, Thailand Development Research Institute (TDRI) study found that ( https://tdri.or.th.en/ ): "despite lower monthly pay, civil servant's lifetime renumeration is higher than private companies' employees, regardless of education levels. During an economic decline, the employees of private firms face sharp drops in salary, while those of civil servants remain stable. The value of benefits gained by civil servants accounts for half of their lifetime income, while that of employees in private firms is relatively lower ... salary adjustments should be focused on high-ranking civil servants. The number of new civil servants with low skills should also be limited and their jobs should be outsourced to private firms." A review of the whole Thailand civil service functionality needs to be performed prior to civil service salary increases and impact on the whole nation's workforce. For example: Thailand civil service relies in part on "good governance." "Civil service reforms in Hong Kong and Thailand: similar goals, different paths," abstract produced by Emerald Publishing Limited 2020. https://www.emerald.com " ... good governance is merely a normative concept that requires many resources as well as the capability of governments to achieve those 'good' qualities but with little understanding of how to get there. ... it encourages a one size fits all approach to governance... ... civil service reforms in Thailand were largely dependent on the political will of the regime. Although there have been several attempts to modernize the civil service system, the results of the reforms remain unclear."
  24. It seems frequently in Thailand that the quality of children's school meals has been affected more by corruption than climate change and agricultural pollution. Healthy entrees are replaced by school administrations with unhealthy selections or ommission of healthy selections to the financial benefit of school administrations. Provide better accountability of school meal funding and enforcement as necessary to protect children's health. It seems often such corruption is disclosed by insider whistle blowers instead of education officials.
  25. There should be no discrimination nor politicalization of public policy. Every province should get equal and independent consideration in proportion to the desires of its citizens.
