  1. It would seem intuitive that the farther one travels on the train, the more cost efficient it is. So maybe charge less for longer commutes (ie., GT 3 stations) than shorter commutes ( ie., LT 4 stations). Help finance the former by higher rates on the latter. However, such a plan must be justified by rider statistics rather than by intuition.
  2. Dominance of a Buddhist government over an Islamic society itself creates social disparity. It would seem that SBPAC intends (as it has for decades) is to displace the bulk of Islamic society with promises of materialistic rewards versus any form of autonomy. At the same time the caretaker government of PM Prawit has just extended a State of Emergency in the South almost through next year which suspends constitutional rights!
  3. I believe this so-called "committee" (why no name?) is ISOC (Internal Security Operations Committee, a division of the Royal Thai Military). The decree itself is likely the State of Emergency that basically waives all constitutional rights of citizens in a prescribed area. Curious that a Prawit caretaker government enacted the decree extension. As I recall, when caretaker PM Yingluck (for the duration of new elections to be held in 2014) invoked a State of Emergency to breakup violent protests against government facilities using force (police shields, batons, tear gas and water cannons), the Court denied such use because the government was in caretaker status.
  4. Thaksin has not been tried and convicted for lese majestic. It's been "under investigation."
  5. No, it was a royal endorsement. No "coup folk" (NCPO) were ever convicted that would require a pardon and in fact the Constitutional Court later recognized all coup orders as legal.
  6. Not required in Thailand. One can directly petition the Constitutional Court without "layers of courts." Or indirectly through agencies that have standing with the CC such as the Election Commission or Ombudsman. Otherwise processing Thaksin's probable petition starts with the prison director.
  7. FY 2024 begins Sept. 1, 2023 with no new funding, means budget may default to FY 2023 until the government and Parliament pass a new budget. In the interim that may mean government debt defaults, lower imports with a higher baht exchange rate, higher cost of government operations impacted by inflation. PS: the government continues to delay implementation of the Act of Prevention and Suppression of Torture and Enforced Disappearance. In February 2023 the government approved a decree (?) to postpone until October 1, 2023 when it should have all the equipment purchased and training completed. But with no new budget? Seems convenient if protests become "ambitious" against the new government.
  8. You're blowing a lot of smoke so you must by GOP logic be quilty of something egregious.
  9. versus 4 years of POTUS Trump and his DOJ FAIL to successfully try and convict any Democrat leader, congressman or government official under POTUS Obama. While the Trump regime weaponized government agencies to push fascist agendas, feed government funding to his weslthiest donors and enrich himself, his family and family relations from foreign fascist powers.

  13. "Not only would the flow of immigrants into countries whose population is declining serve the purpose of avoiding depopulation, it would also help with the countries' age structures." From the International Monetary Fund (IMF): "Immigration solve the demographic dilemma-but not without the right policies." March 2020; https://www.imf.org/en/Publications/fandd/issues/2020/03 Zenophobic, nationality and racial discriminatory nations need not apply.

  15. If the current majority coalition can prevent a no-confidence vote in the House, the next election might not happen for the next eight years.
  16. Which is more influential: 53,500 public petition signatures or 360,850 Thailand active-duty military? The new pro-military government knows.
  17. "16 renegade Democrat MPs" Make that "16 sensible Democrat MPs". It's the new government that is "renegade."
  18. Waiting to see who fills the Ministry of Clown Shows, Ministry of Coups, Ministry of Brown Envelopes, etc.
  19. Just to add to the ekection mix look at Venezuela. The President is directly elected by popular vote. But the country has a Parliament similar to Thailand wherein the President of Parliament is elected in a manner similar to Thailand's President of Parliament. It's difficult to generalize world wide.
  20. 2023 average is 100. https://govisafree.com With a spread of 90-109 for 50% of population. Average IQ for Thailand according to https://worldpopulationreview.co is about 89, nation ranks 64 compare to Myanmar ranks 52 with 91 IQ. Highest average IQ score in the world is Japan, followed by Taiwan and Singapore vs US ranks 29 with average IQ of about 97.
  21. Until the PM decides he wasn't like Prayut and the Charter Court in 2023 ruled that Prayut was NOT PM until 2017? In Thailand it is not the Rule of Law but the Null of Law.
  22. In some democratic countries, new government swears allegiance to the Constitution as no man is above the law. Fail in Thailand.
  23. That was for the 2023 election. Now it must be hope in next two generations.
  24. Yes, honor among thieves.
  25. "Annual inflation rate in the US accelerated to 3.2% in July 2023 from 3% in June, but below forecasts of 3.3%. It marks a halt in the 12 consecutive months of declines, due to base effects. A year earlier, inflation had started to fall from its peak of 9.1%." Et cetera. Hardly devastating to the economy and quite nominal if not an aberration to recent history post POTUS Trump. Compared to Trump's first 30 months of term 5.24 million jobs created, Biden's was 13.7 million. Closer to home (Thailand) the predicted inflation rate is 2.5% in 2023 and 2.4% in 2024. Not yet a developed country where the government controls cost of energy, consumer prices and maintains low minimum wages. With US projecting a 2023 GDP of about $27 trillion vs Thailand of about $511 billion and US population of about 340 million vs Thailand of about 72 million, the US economy is doing quite well under Biden.
