More details on Thai taxation of overseas income
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
A political mantra comes to mind reading about foreigner concerns about how the proposed new Thai income tax would/might be applied: Taxation without Representation. Taxed Thais taxpayers can at least vote and/or appeal to their Parliamentary representatives regarding legislation and policy. Thai taxed resident foreigners have no political representation in Thailand. Therefore, as shocking it might be to the Thai electorate and incumbent government, it would be fair and democratic that taxpaying resident foreigners can vote, at least in the National Election. -

The logic can be twisted endlessly. What is "income?" If you transfer foreign funds to your Thai savings account (which most foreigners are only able to open), do the funds then become "savings" regardless of their foreign origins, ie., pension, social security, dividends, employment compensation? What if you "save" part of your foreign monetary monthly distributions into a foreign bank and then in whole or partially disbursed into your Thai bank account (vs direct deposit to Thai bank)? Why can't Thai Tax Revenue simply state that funds generated by foreign pensions and/or social security and transferred in whole or in part to Thailand are exempt from Thai taxation as they are not "earned taxable income"? You receive those funds simply because you exist and stop when you die. You do not participate in any manner for those funds to be generated. In fact US tax revenue distinguishes "earned income" from "income." In my case, by Thai royal promulgation my foreign pension transfers to Thailand are exempt from Thai taxation due to the nature of my LTR visa. How does my Thai bank and Thailand Revenue agency know that, particularly if Thai banks might be expected (more clarification?) to withhold Thai taxes from such transfers automatically (currently unspecified) as they do when when you are paid Thai savings account interest? -
PM Srettha aims to lift Thailand to upper-income status in four-year soar

So many "wonderments." No mention of specific training, skills or advanced opportunities. Just a "word salad" of vague concepts that won't improve income inequality for the near future. -
World Bank Downgrades Thai Economic Growth Forecast

US sanctions (I assume you mean against Russia) are part of GLOBAL sanctions by a large number of countries around the world but notably lacking from Asia. The EU and Eastern Europe in effect applied their sanctions in part against themselves from Russian energy imports blackmail. They traded prosperity for democracy. -
Understanding Thailand’s New Tax Directive on Foreign Income

Rather naive. Thai banks now withhold tax on interest earned on savings account. A tax number is only required if you want a refund if you're entitled to a refund. And I do have a tax number although retired. -
OOC is true for Thailand that has been slow to do major FTA's outside of Southeast Asia and now appears to be more a priority with new government beyond Thailand's traditional political commitments. The US has trade agreements throughout the world. What country aside from North Korea and Ukraine war trade bans wouldn't want trade with over 300 million consumers within one nation?
-
You are expecting a nation of 360 million people with a trillion dollar economy to have zero debt? That's just unreasonable by any economic measure. The US has never and will never according to its history and its Constitution default in meeting its debt obligations, namely paying interest on US bonds. "kicking the (debt) can down the road" is a basic tool of the middle class to purchase what is beyond their immediate cash, ie., home mortgage, auto. It's basic to credit card transactions to defer debt that can be drawn down over time within means of one's current income. Maybe you are among the 1 percenters fortunate enough to have cash for all your needs. Need a $80,000 USD auto or $1 million USD home - no problem, roll out your bags of cash.

Understanding Thailand’s New Tax Directive on Foreign Income
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You do raise a possible issue...if the bank withholds income tax on all foreign deposits. It shouldn't regardless of the wire source, foreign bank-to-Thai bank, Government-to-Thai bank. Money is fungible meaning it has no character other than being currency. I'm going to contact my bank in particular as my foreign sourced funds are tax-exempt by the terns of my visa. -
There is nothing wrong with having a national debt so long as it is serviced timely. Which is mandatory in the US Constitution. While the US has the world's biggest national debt in terms of dollar amount, it also has the largest economy. That gives the US a lot of economic leverage in international trade. The US dollar is the 10th strongest currency in the world, worth exactly 1 against itself. All other units of currency across the globe are worth less than a US dollar.

Senator Porntip asked to leave restaurant in Iceland
Srikcir replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Iceland is the fifth most democratic country in the World, according to the EIU’s Global Democracy Index. The parliamentary democracy in Iceland has always been maintaining and improved civil liberties and political rights. Porntip just showed how oblvious she is about what a parliamentary democracy is.- 97 replies

More chance of silicon and ice cream. Neptune has solid and gaseous ammonia (combined in clouds of hydrogen sulfide) than naturally-occurring liquid ammonia (which goes directly from ice state to gas). Silicon can combine with ammonia molecules AS silicon dioxide. But the lack of free oxygen molecules will defeat such a chemical reaction. -

Methane is inert to silicon atoms unless there is photochemical excitation (electron excitation from light) that creates a "methylsilylene polymer." That might make a great battery but unlikely life. Note also that there is only about 1,000th of the sunlight received by Earth that reaches Neptune. -

Consider "intelligent life" has had the opportunity to arise over the almost 14 billion years of our universe. Home sapiens on Earth only appeared 300,000 years ago and current brain shape developed 100,000 years ago. Also, what we may observe "now" (observable light taking millions/billions of years to travel the universe) may not be seen to support life, ie., in the goldilocks zone, didn't mean it might not have or can't in the foreseeable future. The Earth itself was a virtual ice ball enduring Sturtian glaciation for about 60 million years. -
Thai economy loses steam: UTCC’s growth forecast trims to 3%

And that was largely the delay caused by the Senate that refused to endorse the MFP and coalition as House majority. Perhaps include the PTP that decided a power grab with the Senate and former government political supporters. So now it's ironic that the PTP et al are so serious about increasing the GDP. Just like the Prayut to stall the GDP, then rally the public to increase it. -
Trump liable for fraud, judge finds in New York civil case

To clarify, a New York state chartered LLC, Trust, corporation, etc. can in turn hold out-of-state real estate like Mar Lago in Florida. Trump over the decades literally "put all his eggs" into one basket- New York (I'm sure there may be foreign assets held by offshore entities). -

The PM is the Chairman of the National Police Commission which oversees the administrative functions of the Police Service Commission in charge of personnel management and appointing the police Commissioner General. So it might have followed that PM Pita was fully aware of the search subpoena in advance (maybe even ordered it?) for Deputy National Police Chief Pol Gen. “Big Joke". An interesting question as an aside might be why wasn't this investigation and subpoena conducted during PM Prayut's eight year regime? -

Since when? Isn' defamation in Thailand defined by "hurt to one's reputation", according to personal perception? Especially when posted on social media like Facebook, Tic Toc, etc. that could also constitute criminal violation of the Computer Act? Rupp could instead reported the videoed incident to the police, let the police follow the Truth if they chose. But Rupp wanted to "feed" to his Tic Toc followers. -
Trump liable for fraud, judge finds in New York civil case
Srikcir replied to Social Media's topic in World News
What business and wealth? Trump no longer controls any assets in New York. His corporate charters have been revoked immediately. A receiver will be appointed to dissolve the company, take over the assets and distribute them as the court sees fit. The receiver would continue to collect rents, pay taxes, pay the bills and company salaries until the assets are sold off with Trump receiving what's left after debts and liabilities. It's expected the State will ask far higher than the original $250 million, upwards to $2 billion. The jury, the judge in this case, will decide.
