When reindexing is complete will folks previous membership rank/rating be restored?

Or, AseanNow is not sure, it will not restore previous rating/rank, etc., although we might get awarded a bunch of boy scout badges which will make a North Korean general jealous?

Ranks will be restored when the re-indexing is completed. Currently re-indexing is at 66.13 per cent.

I am still a newbie (wrong: I just got promoted to "Rookie") after more than 1500 posts. I notice that maintenance and bug-fixing in many cases takes far more time above from what is usual in the IT world.

And when you have finished, may I kindly ask you to explain these new "badges" and how they are calculated ?

The forum re-indexing is indeed taking a long time, but that is wholly down to the forum software. I don't have a way of speeding things up. Re-indexing is currently 23 per cent completed. However with 300,000+ members, 12 million+ events and a 20 year database to analyse, with 11 badges and then ranks to award it will take some time.

I have taken a screenshot of 10 of the 11 currently available badges and pasted it below:

    image.png

You will see there is a description below each badge, for example, "Got 100 reactions" which explains why the badge was awarded.

There is an 11th badge, which has not been awarded yet (as the system has not gotten around to analyzing follows which is:

    image.png

Members will receive this badge when 10 people follow them.

The "Rare" symbol on badges is applied if the badge has been earned by less than 5 per cent of members. During the re-indexing period when badges are being awarded the rare symbol will be re-calculated and some badges will become less rare as more of them are awarded.

  3. I've seen Donna for a couple of things. She's great. Bare in mind that the clinic can get very busy so there are staff and patients lined up everywhere.

If you go I would suggest you book an appointment online, and be prepared for a delay just in case one happens.

What colour is the money now?

Money is very recognisable, but all notes are plastic. Even more so than before, fifty pound notes are not easy to spend. Self service machines do not accept fifty pound notes.

All coins remain the same as 20 years ago, apart from the one pound coin, which now has 12 sides instead of being round.

Can I actually use cash or does everyone pay using chips embedded in their hands?

You can use cash nearly everywhere, however most people use contactless payments either with their bank card or their mobile phone. You will notice that cash is a rarity. If you have a UK bank card you can add it to your phone very easily so your phone can be used as a payment device, or you can just use the card itself. Contactless payments can be made up to 100 pounds per transaction, so pretty much everything can be paid for in this way.

There are a very few stores that do not accept cash, and a very few stores that only accept cash.

You will notice that almost everything can be paid with contactless. Taxi fares, vending machines, street buskers...

You will also notice a lot more self service machinery. For example in supermarkets you can scan and bag your own items. Sorry for the boring video below, but you will get the idea.

Other than that you will have sticker shock. Prices have really gone up recently, so from 20 years ago it will potentially be a bit mind boggling.

Please explain what improvements a "user" will get from allowing 3rd party cookies.........apart from not seeing this annoying pop up?

    None.

As a user you have to decide whether you accept this third party cookie so you don't see the newsletter signup screen again, or whether you continue to block all third party cookies and you do see the newsletter signup screen.

The choice is not necessarily binary though. Some browsers such as Chrome can whitelist a domain to always accept cookies.

In this scenario you could block all third party cookies except AN forum. If the newsletter signup screen is deprecated you can then remove AN forum from your whitelist.
