  1. In answer to your residency question @Adumbrationyes you can and you will have portability like all other residents who never left the country prior to getting the OAP and departing Australia to retire
  2. From your link @simple1the following link from DSS lists the requirements for portability https://www.dss.gov.au/about-the-department/international/policy/portability-of-australian-income-support-payments
  3. The link explains the rules to obtain portability if you return to Australia to claim the pension and how long you can be out of the country during the two year period https://guides.dss.gov.au/social-security-guide/7/1/4
  4. That's correct. In my case I went back to Australia after living overseas for over 2 years, then returned and claimed the pension. When I travel overseas within the two year period of being back in Australia my pension payments stopped when I left Australia and were reinstated on return after 3 weeks away
  5. The pension stops as soon as you depart Australia if you do not have portability
  6. Why did they stop your pension? Did the message from MyGov explain why your pension was stopped? Was it portable? Once you get back to Australia call Centrelink and you should get you pension reinstated as you have stated you will have returned to Australia permanently.
  7. Portability for former residents - Age, DSP Since 20 September 2000, a former resident who returns to Australia and is granted Age or DSP, or who transfers to Age under SS(Admin)Act section 12, cannot take that pension outside Australia if they leave within 2 years of having resumed residence in Australia. The purpose of this legislation is to discourage people from travelling to Australia just to get an Australian pension to take back overseas. The 2-year period includes, as separate full days, the day on which the recipient returns to Australia to resume Australian residence and the day on which they leave again. There is no discretionary power to allow portability of Age or DSP during the 2-year period (note, some exceptions to the 2-year rule apply - see below). Payment may be suspended for short overseas absences during the 2-year period and does not have to be reclaimed on return to Australia. A short absence from Australia (as long as the person is still classed as an Australian resident) will not impact on the end date of the 2-year period (i.e. the absence still counts towards the person's 2-year period). https://guides.dss.gov.au/social-security-guide/7/1/4
  8. Have it stolen by an employee of the bank, as has happened on numerous occasions in the past. I don't trust Thai banks either. That's why I keep my ฿800,000 for my Non-Imm O Retirement extensions in my Australian bank. Much safer. Also pays much better interest
  9. Yeah, a lot more. I know a principal at a private school who is paid ฿150,000 per month plus rent ฿15,000 per month and health insurance
  10. Because of people like you and many, many other 'falangies' on AN have opinions on Thai politics and flood the political threads with their posts. All worthless of course as they DON"T vote
  11. By Chris Barrett the South-East Asia correspondent for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. https://www.smh.com.au/world/asia/two-weeks-ago-she-was-giving-birth-on-sunday-she-ll-run-for-prime-minister-20230504-p5d5qi.html
  12. If you like getting stuffed around by Immigration, up to you. It's not the money, it's being able to avoid going near Immigration
  13. Read my post 4 posts before the one you're quoting. Not referring to the OP, I changed to extension based on retirement to avoid all the BS involved in marriage extensions
  14. I have no opinion on any of your scenarios as I will it will not affect me. I will be in an urn on the wife's sideboard before any of the changes eventuate. You're still a broken record on the subject.....................but keep going someone might be interested in your opinions Not me
  15. Yeah, I wouldn't want to be out of the country if your OAP has not been approved. You have to be in Australia to apply so stick around till it is approved and you have the money in your bank. Could be a lot more Centrelink questions to answer if not in Australia before OAP approved
  16. @scorecardI'm in Australia at present and called 132 300 last week, on the line waiting 50 minutes and then disconnected, no contact, gave up. Called the Centrelink International line twice in the last month, wait time was around 4 minutes on both occasions. Call Centrelink International is way better than calling the Older Australian line
  17. Still pushing the same old tired barrow KH. It's you opinion and doesn't count for much but to repeat it 353 time is way over the top and you're not even a pensioner receiving the OAP. Start another thread for your favourite topic
  18. That's correct, I was granted an exemption in March 2021 and left the country for Thailand soon after
  19. I'm doing a second stint of 2 years back in Australia. My wife needs to do her 2 years for her pension to become portable and we will be together for the duration. Not all bad and I'm quite enjoying being back in Perth. With both our full pensions and rent assistance we can live comfortable here even with the cost of living the way it is. We don't run a car and public transport is free from 0900 to 1530 each day and free all weekend and on public holidays so getting around is easy, at no cost. Our apartment is walking distance to the CBD so no cost to get to the train system which covers most of the shopping centres we go to for shopping. So no detention for me, rather a break from Thailand for a while
  20. OK, here's the link. Sorry I sent KH to Services Australia as it is found on the DSS site, https://guides.dss.gov.au/social-security-guide/7/1/4
  21. The statement of @scorecardis correct. Go to Services Australia and you can find reference to the two year portability requirements
  22. And what conventional power would that be in a sub built to be propelled by a nuclear reactor?
  23. Thanks for the info. The letters are free so it's not a problem getting a new one each year
  24. My statement is not incorrect. I have been seeing my specialist for 7 years and need a new referral letter every year. What happens in Melbourne is not what happens in Perth, just like Thailand, different rules in different states
