  1. Went to my bank yesterday to get a new passbook, passport required and the only page the bank employee looked at was the data page. No inspecting my visa status as has been said on AN in other threads. The transfer limit on my account via the bank app is ฿5,000,000 to any Thai bank, no transfer fees. Counter transfers attract a fee and there is a limit for each transaction, ฿100,000. Just my recent banking experience
  2. No thanks. Dealing with Immigration only on arrival and departure from Thailand
  3. I used an agent in Bangkok for initial retirement extension and the agent sent my passport back in 3 days. Not sure what's going on with an agent keeping a passport for 60 days
  4. Not knowing when the Phillipines FIR would reopen best and least costly for QF was return to departure airport. Any other landing port would have incurred accomodation costs and crewing problems for the continuation for the continuation to MNL when reopened
  5. It wasn't a blackout at the main airport. The whole countries Air Traffic Management System was down due to electrical failure. No comms, no radar, no lights, so the authorities closed all Philippines airspace. Aircraft were not allowed to transit the Philippines FIR (Flight Information Region)
  6. No airline would operate or plan to operate as it would not be cost effective. Burn fuel for no reason to land at an alternate airport and then the airspace doesn't open for hours, crew run out of duty time, need minimum rest and all pax have to be looked after. Food and accommodation, very costly. What QF did was the most cost effective, to return to departure airport.
  7. The last paragraph says it all regards the RTAF on the F-35 procurement. "Ultimately, the RTAF’s procurement of American F-35As just comes across as too rushed, too challenging, and not cost-effective enough."
  8. Diversion to any airport in the Philippines was not possible as all their airspace was closed to all air traffic. https://www.flightglobal.com/air-transport/technical-snag-forces-philippines-airspace-closure-on-new-years-day/151497.article
  9. I blame the pilot for forgetting to check it in he's pre-flight check. Most important ABC reporting 4 dead and 3 critical
  10. With these eight countries as program partners for the F-35, the US, the United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Australia, Norway, Denmark and Canada. Countries who operate or have ordered the F35 Australia,Belgium,Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland,Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Republic of Korea, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the United States. Thailands chance being on the list in the future is questionable, if not highly unlikely.
  11. Yes, but will the US sell the sophisticated control software that will be used in US F-35's or much degraded system for Thailand
  12. So there is no need for Thailand to purchase 2 aircraft if they will only used for training and exercises with other allies. Very expensive way of running a small air force
  13. A tragedy that should never have happened, but in true Thai fashion NO ONE will be held accountable. Very sad
  14. A lot of things aren't RIGHT in Thailand. Corruption will continue, it's a way of life here
  15. The corrupt RTP/Immigration will never change in a country that sits in the lower half of the world corruption list. Agents will be around long after you and the rest of the posters on AN have long gone
  16. You don't pay extra for a seat. What you pay extra for is Choosing where you sit. At checkin Scoot will allocate a seat at no extra charge. On the choose a seat page in the booking process it advises you if you want to choose a seat then Scoot will charge you extra.
  17. If you are using an iPhone you need your Apple ID country/region set to Thailand
