This is exactly where the fault lies, "He said the blame for what happened should be faced by the Bank of Thailand, the finance ministry and banks." The banking system in Thailand is archaic, with the banks taking no responsibility of funds lost to fraud, with no input from the account holder.

Australian Aged Pension
ozfarang replied to VOICEOVER's topic in Australia & Oceania Topics and Events
Sorry @scorecard, my TOTAL OAP was stopped every time I left Australia(twice during the 2 year period). What you were told and what happened are 2 different things obviously . As you didn't leave Australia during your 2 years you don't know what would have happened if you did. Just before I left Australia after my 2 years I rang the general Centrelink line and asked the specific question, "what pension do i receive after 26 weeks out of Australia" and was told, "your pension payments will stop". They haven't so what is said in telephone calls is not always correct obviously -

When I departed Australia during the 2 year period to be eligible for portability my OAP stopped the day I left Australia and was re-instated the day I returned without any input from me apart from informing Centrelink my travel details, which was required. The time out of Australia did not affect my 2 year period for portability. This was the period 2019 to 2021 -
Australia's newest airline received it's AOC today and should be airborne by the end of the month. Let's hope it puts downward pressure on airfares in the coming months https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-01-12/new-airline-bonza-approved-by-casa-regional-australia-flights/101849982

The Singapore model seems to be working OK. I suppose the Thai government have looked at the way Singapore introduced casinos and how they operate successfully

The first 3 digits indicate it is of UK origin. You can see all the 3 digit bar code prefixes for all countries in the following link https://www.barcodestalk.com/learn-about-barcodes/resources/barcode-country-codes

So why does the food barcode(500) indicate its origin is the UK

Not at all. Agents are the way to go if you can afford it. Close friend used an agent in Pattaya 2 days ago to obtain a bank account, change visa from TRV to Non-O based on retirement and did't need to deposit the funds in his bank account. He lives in Bangkok, was picked up at Pattaya bus station by agent, taken to bank to open bank account, 30 mins at bank then on to Immigration. Very long line waiting, that was bypassed by agent, straight up to desk, sign the papers, photo taken left in 15 mins. Visa will be ready in 2 weeks. He has plenty of funds but is not prepared to tie it up in a very low interest bearing account with only 50% available to use for 7 months of the year. So agents are well worth it if you can afford it to save a lot of time and all the associated problems dealing with Immigration and their constantly changing interpretation of the rules for visas and the stress it causes a lot of people

Proof of Covid vaccines required - dateline??
ozfarang replied to kwilco's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Chinese visitors require a PCR test 48 hours prior to entering China so insurance would appear to be required from what I've read on Thai Immigration requirements to enter Thailand from 0001 Monday 09 January 2023 -
Something new at the bank
ozfarang replied to moogradod's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Went to my bank yesterday to get a new passbook, passport required and the only page the bank employee looked at was the data page. No inspecting my visa status as has been said on AN in other threads. The transfer limit on my account via the bank app is ฿5,000,000 to any Thai bank, no transfer fees. Counter transfers attract a fee and there is a limit for each transaction, ฿100,000. Just my recent banking experience
