Some might not want to go near the Night Bazaar area...
It is ground zero for Starbucks, Burger King, vendors selling same same, bars and whores galore...
But as is said here often... "Up to You"

No luck with my regular 3bb... I turn on HotSpot Shield and it works fine...
-
I would recommend inside the Moat near Rajdamnoen Road & Tha Pae Gate
Tamarind Village Hotel is my favorite but it is a bit pricey...
Others:
Vieng Mantra Hotel
Saithong Guest House
And a new one in a relaxed ExPat area: Chiangmai Boutique House
Make sure if you are here on Sat or Sun to go to the night walking street!

Go to Central Dept store, then have a cheap on/off timer by where the lightbulbs are. Set it so your router turns off at night while you sleep.
I wish all routers had buildt in on/off timers

I can only speak for the Truemove unlimited WIFI and I find it worthless... They somehow programmed my iPhone to automatically connect to any Truemove wifi network (without a password) when I come into range... But usually these networks range and speed suck... So for instance if you are in Siam Paragon your 3G data shuts down when the wifi kicks in... but if walk too far from these wifi routers the speed slows to a crawl... If your in a car and drive by a Starbucks your 3G will shut down and the sucky wifi data kicks in...
I would like to know how to disable my wifi from auto connecting to these networks?...
Its normal practice to turn off Wifi when driving...... or it will be hopping all over the place. Best thing is ask them to remove the MAC address (auto authenticate ) , and manually login when you want to use WiFi.
Turning the wifi on and off when I drive or leave the house is a pain...
I asked them to remove the MAC address auto log in and give me a user name & password (like you get with their stand alone wifi plans) and they said that was not allowed with the FreeSize plan

ttuWhen the floods first hit Bangkok last week, 20 people from Bangkok came up to Chiang Mai and bought houses in the moobahn I am moving to. Each house cost between 3 and 5 million baht each. I think that qualifies as Bangkok peopleu looking for a house. I don't think they are looking for older houses, they want the new modern houses that are being built all over Chiang Mai.
wow .. which mooban ?ttj
I think it's the mubaan near MeeChok Plaza where they made the made the horror ghost movie where everyone got murdered

I was just wondering what effect all the flooding and economic dislocation will have on the baht?...
The BOT has already said the GDP will be lowered - There is a bunch of foreign export currency that will not flow in...
The Government will be forced to go on a deficient spending spree to try and fix (appear to fix) a lot of the damage... A big chunk of that will flow out of the country thru Seimens and Mercedes dealerships (Especially if MRT were to spring a leak)...
Many businesses, factories and an airport that were damaged by the flood will most likely not be rebuilt...
Long term many Multinationals will be rethinking their supply chain... Moving to higher ground in say China...
All these factors seem like a perfect storm that sees a lot more money leaving Thailand than coming in...
Maybe a silver lining for those of us retired in the Land of Smiles and opining the days of 45-65 Baht/USD...
Any opinions?...

With a usufruct you can lease the house/land to someone else i.e. your children, which doesn't end on your demise
.
http://www.thailawon...agreements.html
Scroll down to 'THE USUFRUCTARY CAN LEASE THE LAND/HOUSE
As an added precaution I would have a clause in the original Usufruct contract that the Chanote holder must allow and help facilitate any future 30 year lease registration with the Land Department...
A Farang Usufruct Holder showing up at the Land Department alone may find a bureaucratic mai dai when trying to add the additional 30 year lease to the Chanote without the Thai owner there to agree...
-
As a matter of interest, does any poster know the amount a house should be discounted if taken on a 30 year lease rather than buying outright, i would imagine that there is some sort of calculation working on an average interest rate over the 30 years plus the house price appreciating.
I doubt any Thai would consider any such discounting model...
You would have better luck suggesting the house may be haunted...

Make sure your phone is set to roam networks and 3G is on in your settings and also manually set your ANP settings - See here: http://www.truemove-h.com/helpsupport_apnsettings.aspx

You are all pissed off because the tuk tuk driver wanted 50 baht for a short trip? To take you exactly where you wanted to go without any other passengers? Come on....it's less than $2 American....
In San Francisco when the taxi driver hits the start button it rings up $4.10... Airport to downtown ~$53.00...
And they give you a dirty look if you want change back from your three twenties
These rules apply to locals as well as tourists...
These tuk tuk drivers are amatures....

Here is what my IPhone looks like here inside the moat

I have been having the same issue with my 3bb for the last week or so... I switched to Google's 8.8.8.8... It didn't help
-
I would like to see the same study conducted on the local police officers

Excellent Idea Palm!!!
This may also solve my second problem with 3bb... Many very basic sites just won't come up... They just say not found!

I the last 2 weeks I am constantly getting "The connection was reset" error screens.
(see screen shot below)
Once I hit reload the webpage I was going to pops right up.
I have 3bb with their standard wifi router, my browser is Firefox 3.6
Has anyone else had this problem lately?

The Ratilanna has one of the most beautiful pools I've seen in Chiang Mai and it's never crowded. There's even a bar accessible from inside the pool. Nice people too. http://www.ratilannachiangmai.com/
I was a member at their gym and had guests join me one day. They were charged 100 THB for the use of the pool. Don't know what the daily fee without a gym member being present - perhaps it's the same. They also have a free discount card available which reduces gym membership and restaurant prices by 20%.
What was the price of your gym membership and did that include the pool?

What is the general location of the Lampang Ceramics Fair?...

I agree with NancyL... Just go to a bank branch in KSK or Airport Plaza where they are accustomed to foreigners. Mentioning that you will need to transfer 800K baht into the account ASAP will increase your chances of being accepted too

I presently have Thailand Street Map Version 11.1 SD Card in my Garmin GPS - Would I lose any road map quality or routing capability by switching to this SD card Map?
