  1. They are all equally bad and equally good... I would ask a neighbor what the condo option is like, if they don't say it sucks royally try it...

I had a neighbor who got in a huff with a provider - tried to cancel after a month (which his contra ct stated he could NOT do)... Then he proudly just stopped paying - then he found himself on a blackball list when he treid to reapply a year later when he moved and the new condo had only one option...

  2. When you get here, stay in a hotel for a couple of nights, and then go to the individual buildings to see what is available, or contact one or two of the real estate agencies and you can book something over the internet if you trust pictures. You are asking TV members to send you pictures, prices, and all sort of details without telling what type of space you want in terms of square meters, how many bedrooms, what price, etc. If you want specific answers, you have to ask specific questions.

I did actually state on the advert preferably "Hillside 4", 99% of units at Hillside 4 are studios and around 45 square metres. The rental per month is from around 10,000 bahts. So not sure really why you feel I am being unreasonable by asking for prices and pictures.

We thought about staying somewhere for a few nights when we arrive but we would much rather find somewhere beforehand.

30 seconds and the magic of Google and I came across this....

  3. Cell coverage is not perfect. You can not rely on ANY coverage map. There are many variables that have to be taken into account - How far are you from the cell towers?... Is there any obstructions between you and the tower?... What is your house made of?... How many people in your area are accessing the cell system at any given point... Etc...

As I stated earlier you should talk to you neighbors and ask them what service they have and what works or does not work for them... Then look at your setup and location - Sadly in rural (And many urban) areas you are just out of luck reception wise...

  4. steel sheets on steel structure is def cheapest and will probably last 15 years. Price depends on if its galvanised or painted/powdercoated, and if its insulated for temp/heat

asbest sheets on steel structure cost slightly more, less noisy when raining and longer lifetime

Is this where it will rain?...

Your guests will not like the incredibly annoying sound that rain makes on a steel roof!...

  5. I recently bought an iPad mark 1, and I am happy with it for the knocked down price I paid.

One problem is that I cannot post on TVisa with it. Does anyone else have this problem and is there a way around it. The keyboard function works very well with all other applications.

    Sent from the iPad :jap:

  6. I can also recommend EVA. I always fly with them. Recently I just booked my Xmas return home flight BKK-SFO Premium Economy 48,235 baht...

Their Premium Economy is more than just just a Economy seat with 5-6 inches of leg room.

    A couple tricks

EVA lets you pick your seats on their website... From your flight number you can determine what model of plane you will fly - Then go to this website and figure out the best seat to choose

    http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Eva_Airways/Eva_Airways_Boeing_777-300.php

When you are returning to BKK the long Pacific flight from the US laysover in Taipei... In the airport where all the duty free stores are there is an upper level (near to the EVA Lounge) - Up there is a pay for use lounge that anyone can use. Its about $30 US - This lounge has free light food, drinks, internet, newspapers and TV - But the most important thing is they have spotless private SHOWERS!!!... They give you a wonderful towel kit - This is a great relief after the 10 hours across the Pacific...

  7. I got an ais package on my ipad and its utter crap. Gf told me to get Dtac but i was stupid thought AIS who had 3g would be the better choice. It was not. Ok no 3g but i expected that but also no viable edge in the provinces around BKK.

You are the OP of the other thread "Apple is Bullshit"... I see a pattern emerging...

Sent from my AIS 3G connected iPad

  8. those weird looking houses near lannabowling at the corner of Ram hospital, inside the moat, are supposed to be haunted.

they've been for sale years and years and nobody seems to be interested.

    Are ghosts multi lingual?

How does one say "BOO!!!" in Thai?...

And why is the most popular ghost in Thailand called Pancake?

  9. Kind of cheated. Lao friend has a 3G service which by the way was installed by Thai company. Loaded it into my Samsung G ll just to see how well it worked. I must say was rather impressed. That being said being in Lao and not being able to go too far off the beaten path it's hard to say the extent of the service coverage. It's high time the Thai stop thinking about who gets / makes what and begin to think about the customer. Kind of like the soap opera on-going with a former P M.

I have had wonderful 3G service (True & AIS) both in Bangkok & my house in Chiang Mai for a couple years now...

  10. Are you using one of the cheap international providers (rather then the regular international dialling prefix)? Many (if not most) restrict the bandwidth and don't work reliably with fax tones.

Faxes are analog devises and don't work over a digital connections...

Have you thought of a fax to email system?...

I have a USA fax number thru trustfax.com... When someone faxes to that number the fax turns up in my email as an .pdf document attachment!...

I assume there in a similar company in Europe...

  11. I would suggest the Central Duangtawan Hotel in the Night Bazaar with a pool and a gym. However, the pool is often full of obnoxious brats playing tag and Marco Polo, so swimming laps for exercise is not very convenient.

But if you want to form your own Marco Polo Team the Loi Khor is full of seasoned professionals :whistling:

  12. It depends on how many people per coach, and their size. About 100 baht per hour ($3.00 per hour) is a decent price to work around :) The drivers hang out all over town... Have fun :)

Can't imagine they would ask 100B/hour. How much do you think the old ladies who use them for market shopping pay them?

I would guess 300B, and they will be more than happy. :)

They are not little old ladies going shopping... More like fat farangs.

    30 baht, no way.

Maybe I was not clear enough with my post. The 300Baht would be for renting the samlor for one day sightseeing the Old City.

I think his point was that they charge farangs by the kilo - not by the hour...

  13. Check out Bloomberg for basic stock info - Also check out your brokerage company - most have one that incorporates your stock portfolio...

    Must Have apps for me:

    sbsetting

iTether (I have an iPad and also tether my MacBook Air to use the 3G data)

    Skype

    Talking Thai-English

Dropbox - Check it out here: http://db.tt/95SB0jA

    K-Mobile Banking

    Thai FX Rates

    AirAsia

    Adobe Photoshop Express

  14. Please be gentle - I know I'm crazy!...

A close friend of mine has to return to Europe and sold me her 91 Suzuki Caribian...

I KNOW it is crazy to own one of these death traps - but they are so fun!...

I just got back from a weekend trip to Chiang Saen which was a bit of a white nuckler...

The steering has about a 1/2 turn of play in it!!!

So what I need is a reliable mechanic here in Chiang Mai that is familiar with the Caribian

This will most likely be a long term and profitable relationship

So the frist thing I need done is to have the half turn of play repaired in the steering wheel!!!... I assume a new steering box needs to be put in!... I was thinking of just taking it to the Suzuki dealer - But not sure if they still work on them or if they would just laugh?

Maybe their are Caribian Clubs?... Support Groups?... 10 Step Programs?...

Any recommendations would be appreciated :D

  15. From a different perspective I am one to very quickly recycles and sells my technology when the next version comes out... I bought the 3G version because I thought I could recoup most of the 4k baht when i move up to the IV :D

With that said I most always get the internet (away from home) using iTethered iPhone which has Trues unlimited data plan

Sent from the iPad with no problems :D :D

  16. With Cell Data it's all about location location location...

You need to ask your neighbors what service providers they get a good signal from (AIS, True or CAT...)... then go buy a cheap sim ~ 50 baht and try the thing out in your Mae Wong barko lounger :D ... If the reception works to your satisfaction look at which data plans suits your needs

  17. In theory you should be able to use the IPad with a data sim...

Since you live there (Your house) I assume you know which cell provider has the best reception from the cell tower near your house... AIS or True hopefully - Both these cell provider sell standard microsims for the IPad with data plans...

In practice you will have problems if your reception from the tower is bad and the provider may not have upgraded the hardware at that cell tower to provide 3G speeds...
