Double Post - I hate forum mobile version...

Here is a official press release:
http://www.macworld.com/article/159503/2011/04/ipad_more_countries.html#lsrc.rss_main
Sadly Thailand is not on the list :-(...
I did ask the guy at iStudio at CM Airport Plaza when... He gave no date but did say May

I have AIS prepaid on my Galaxy Tab (btw it works great for coffee shop surfing and fits in my cargo pants pocket!)
I have the prepaid 500gb for 149 baht/month for me 3g speed is great - but my house is inside the CM Moat and I usually use it here in the city
Why does AIS not work on the IPad?
-
What is the English translation name of the Chiang Mai Electric and Water Companies?
My bills are completely in Thai
-
The 3G version will only be about 4K more. Its a nice option to have and would most likely be recouped on resale...
Tetehering suck my IPhone battery down fast too
-
In your place I would do a hybrid...
Go and get yourself a IPhone (Used 3GS in good condition can be had at MBK for 10K) or Android Phone with a nice big screen (Galaxy or HTC).
Get an unlimited 3G (TrueMove 599/month)
This will give you communication, Email, Skype, Internet and is a fun toy for you to play with...
Then get a small Netbook 10" (Samsung makes nice ones - but whatever brand have them install Window for a bit more)
Add MS Office Suite and if the screen is too small buy a cheap 20 inch flat screen monitor & keyboard to plug into for home use.
Then learn how to "tether" them so the phone 3g data plan can be used by the netbook for internet access.

I registered at the site a month ago...
Have not seen any emails yet :-(
-
I think the OP original point was this was occuring IN a Wat... A place of enlightenment
Not in business class where the birds are usually served with bad wine
-
BTW Showing them a map or mentioning direction in terms of North (Nua) or South (Tai) is useless too
-
Also realize that different color song thaews work different areas of the city and don't like to step on another colored song thaews territory... :jap:
-
I moved to the opposite side of the earth to get away from things like this...
-
I have seen signs in one of the Wats (Wat Chedi inside the moat) reminding people that buying caged birds promotes the animal being put in a uncomfortable state...
We could go and have more signs made and donate them to the Wats
Wonder how the Abbot would react?

Ais
in Chiang Mai
Trick:
If you get to a webpage in Thai And there is NO English option...
Copy the page URL and then do a Google seach for that URL - Then in the seach listings it should come up 1st choice - You will see a link just to its right thar says "Translate"
This might make easier to understand... Or not...

I bought a Hong Kong (Officially Unlocked) IPhone at MBK and have True's 599baht/month plan - Unlimited G3
Works Perfect!

I'm heading to phuket (mai khao & Khao lah) and thought of getting a prepaid 3G data plan for my week's stay. Any idea if these out of the way places can get data signal?
Will be having my galaxy S & Tab with me. Appreciate if you could update once you find out which telco offers 3G data service for the Tab.
As for your rooting & flashing..... I'd recommend your try the "Overcome" kernel + ROM. I did mine about a week back and the Tab is functioning so much better. (I use overclock & under volt to get the performance while balancing the battery drain)
Cheers
Thanks lomotapo!!! Im rooted!!!
It worked - But not as seamless as the vid showed
As was mentioned before my Tab is only HSPDA Tri Band (No 850mhz) so True will only give you EDGE speed (There 3G is on 850mhz)- I went and got a 59 baht AIS NETsim GO and got the 500mb/month plan for 149 baht... Its lightning fast!!! (But I'm here in downtown Chiang Mai)
http://www.ais.co.th/mobileinternet/3G_netsim.html
I'll be down at Coral Island in a few weeks will test - But you could email your hotel and ask what cell provider has reception.

You can do a cheap Air Asia flight to Phnom Phen and then the fast boat up the river...
-
... So if the floor space is 160 square meters, that would be multiplied by 4- if there were 4 floors? 160 x 4 = 640....... 640 x 15,000 = 9.6 million baht!!!!!
really?
Kha Phom...

If you require 3G then your only option is really TOT or one of their resellers, as your Tab seems like it should have 2100 Mhz 3G.
Isn't AIS 3G on 900mhz?
Yes, but with very limited coverage. (If you are in Chiang Mai they have excellent coverage. In Bangkok, unless you live in Central World or Siam Paragon, then not too much coverage. http://www.ais.co.th/mobileinternet/3G_coverage-speed.html
My house is inside the moat ;-)
I'm still having a trouble rooting... Tried two different methods (z4root & One Click Root) neither worked

Ah correction to my last post...
My model is triband for data so no 850mz
will have to check out the dtac or ais prepaid options
-
I have the Quad band version
My Iphone gets the True3G - But I have the postpaid unlimited plan with it
Have been monitoring usage and it does not seem to be a data hog - But i know that could quickly change if i add aps;-)

They just dropped the Samsung Tab beloe 15k so I picked one up..
First thing I tried to do is root it
I got z4root 1.3 loaded and ran it but it seems to crash/quit after about 30 seconds
Other forums say z4root does not work with the Thai build...
Anyone got theres rooted?
Second question:
I bought a True Prepaid sim and activated their 50 hours for 199 baht...
You are supposed to get 10 hours of 3G... But the status icon only shows the EDGE icon?

I would suggest you take your computer (With modem) to a True Coffee shop (Or a place where you think the True 3G would be at its best) and test your hardware setup there to confirm that you are setup correctly. This can give you a basemark of the highest speed you can get with your hardware and remove the hardware as an issue - then go home and address reception issues...
