  1. i dont think you can load another countries map into the 200, only has country of purchase, please tell me if i am wrong,.

Both the Nuvi 200 and 200w come with a base map of the county you buy it from and accept an additional Sd Card that has other maps... garmin has a wide selection of additional maps...

North America Europe Middle East Brazil (cards only) Singapore/Malaysia Thailand Austrailia Mexico

  2. Sfokevin,

    How much for shipping?

I am here in the US so it was $15... They do state they ship anywhere in the world - you could email them and ask shipping to where you are at (They also seem to let you go thru the purchase entry form - giving your address info and should give you shipping cost before you buy)

I will bring mine to BKK when I move to BKK in the summer...

I also plan on buying the Australia sd map for a road trip out to Aires Rock :o

  3. I just ordered the Garmin 200w (w signifies the wide screen which is comparable in size to the Mio) for $213USD - The thing that sold me on the Garmin is the recent availability of more maps on sd cards... They now sell Thailand as a stand alone plug and play item...

  4. Hi, I think it is an islamist view on Homosexuals, not Thai. I have several musilm guys working for me, and as far as they are concerned, homosexuality is an abomination of God, and that would be the same for any muslim, depsite which country they are from. It's a shame, but religion and sexuality is always a sensative area!

    Best regards

So it is not a fear of us - just a religiously based hatred... (I think they have many of those...)

Strange for a religion that prays so much...

  5. I know you cannot take more than $10,000 usd out of USA, but I was wondering if I could take out $20,000 in travelers checks and deposit in Thai bank to satisfy the 80000 baht rule. Not only that my retirement is around 80000 baht monthly. I was wondering the Bank of Thailand has a branch in New York City can I send funds there before submitting my application for retirement visa or do I have to have an address in Thailand.

I believe the law states that it is cash or equivalents...

And actually the law does not limit the amount it just states that you must declare amounts over $10,000... Not sure what happens once you make such a declaration... I would allow more time to get through customs though :o

  6. Any insurance company - and it’s underwriters - are dependant on it’s panel of Doctors to say what is “pre-existing”.

In August I will be in BKK permanently - I am interested in purchasing the medical package you offer on this website (1.5M IPD). What does the panel of doctors on your policy say? What conditions would be considered "pre-existing" for a perfectly healthy (well almost) that takes medication to reduce cholesterol and high blood pressure? Thanks

  7. Question... Here in the USA just after your 40th birthday doctors pretty much prescribe cholesterol and blood pressure medication to EVERYONE based solely on testing and the desire to reduce these as a preventive measure ... (That is my case)... What would Thai Insurers consider as "Pre-Existing" in this case? What would Thai Visa Insurance not cover in my case? If say 5 years after having TV Insurance I had a stroke would they say it was a pre-existing condition based on my history of taking medication to lower cholesterol and blood pressure?...

  8. i second telfmikes suggestion, thai prakan chewit, you might also consider siam commercial bank as well.

best to take a thia friend if you dont speak thai, and also to explain the extras/options.

i am 47 and thai prakan costs me about 22,000 baht per year, thats with all the options, eg in/out patient etc. certainly beats some of the prices being quoted elsewhere.

I was intrigued by SCB Insurance surfed their website - I was shocked to find that they do not take individuals with high blood pressure????

  9. I would say if you fit the profile of a single male from 30 - 60 yo who returns from Bangkok/Viet Nam/Philippines... etc... your computer and digital recording devices would be of more than passing interest to customs...

I always show them my digital pictures of the in laws and aunties at the family dinner... :o

  10. I would be interested to know too... My situation is a bit different... My Thai Partner and I have just finished the purchase of a new condo (We are both male)... The Transfer documents and registration has both of us listed as the owners... I assume he could get a BLUE one (But he has another properties in BKK where he is listed there so he has no need to change) I assume I can be issued a Yellow Tabian Baan... I would be interested in how this is done in Bangkok as apposed to a small town (which has been discussed here)

  11. You could go get a new tourist visa each time.. Each entry on a tourist visa can be extended 30 additional days in country for 1900 baht.

You could look at getting a non imm O from a consul that issues them good for 1 year (15 months if you start a 90 day entry just as it expires).

You could work, you could marry, if over 50 you could retire, you could study, you could become a monk, etc etc

I'm not all that good at math... this counting thing might not work out for me... Tell me more about the Monk gig?... Do I have to shave my head and give up sex (with a partner)... Will they issue a multiple entry visa?... :o

  12. Amelia . I don`t recall you saying what your home country is. There are a handful of Thai Consulates who will at the moment probably give you a Multi Non O Visa. Hull, Birmingham and Liverpool in the UK being the most obvious. This would give you up to 15 months in Thailand but would need the dreaded 3 monthly Visa runs. I know you have stated that you dont want to do this, but as stated by others it would give you a break from your remote Thai Village hideaway. These border runs are really not a problem and as said by others far more knowledgeable than I am, a better bet than an iffy subscription scheme.

And what are the suggestions for the "nicest" consuls in the USA :o
