  2. Also you must consider that if you can’t connect to PEA and they allow your meter to spin backwards you will need to have a huge battery bank to store the power you make... Without one of these your panel can make huge amounts of electricity and if you don’t use it it is essential lost...

for example suppose you you just finished making coffee and your AC has been running for an hour and the house has cooled down so it only is using the fan... you are sitting quietly in your living room reading your electricity consumption is 2-300 watts at that moment... And your Solar farm at the same moment is kicking out 10,000 watts... Where is that electricity going?...

I brought a True sim from Lazada 4mbps unlimited for 12 months 1300 baht. If you will be here for a while you should check it out.

I have seen thesis on Lazada and interested in getting one for my iPad... once received how does one activate it?... Do you need to go to a Truemove store? Or can you activate online somehow?

  4. Load the App called True iService onto your phone this will allow you to view your account and active promotion info as well as allow you to activate additional data packages... If you need more money on your account just go to any 7-11 and ask the cashier to add money to your phone sim (he/she will ask you to key in your cell phone number after you give the money)

So if Im following this right--If there are more than 5 rooms for rent in my building the power rate is supposed to be 5bt?  And they are only to be charging one months deposit as i paid double that for deposit and paying 8-unit-power..

It depends on who owns the rooms in your building?... Is it one owner or are the units in your building owned by a number of individual owners and managed by a building manager?

  6. I do not see any reason to bash the phonetic method that is taught in ALL the for profit schools... It is what it is - fast and easy way to build a basic and broad Thai vocabulary, sentence structure as well as question words in 1-2 months and would serve as a good base for learning the alphabet and move on to reading & writing...  I recall that AUA basic beginners phonetic style classes have Thai script and phonetic included side by side on all their written material so one could learn the alphabet easily on ones own and use it in class as well... And anyone who does not continue on to reading & writing after 20 years here has only themselves to blame...

So you are saying they teach phonetics at UAU?

I'm confused. I've heard there is no standard phonetic system in Thailand, and marcusarelus just responded that studying phonetically was a waste of time in his opinion.

I would rather avoid both wasting my time and crafty tricks involving artificial languages.

Can anyone direct me to a credible school that actually focuses on the real (Thai language) thing?

I suspect lots of newbies just want to learn some basic phrases and avoid the Thai alphabet. Not me, I want to be able to read the signs as well as communicate effectively.

Am I asking too much to be able to do this in one year?

Then head out to Payap University... but as you started this post with “I'm not really that interested in a grueling schedule or work load either.“ I did not initially offer this suggestion up to you... :coffee1:

I did the same thing but had to learn a made up written language as opposed to learning to write Thai. Big mistake in my opinion.  I wasted a lot of time there that would have been better spent learning to read and write Thai at the same time learning to speak.

By "made up" I guess your are referring to the phonetic technic? - which most if not all schools use - It is a great way to start the basics... but I agree if you want to really learn more to learn Thai script/alphabet  (Which they offer too)...

Took their Thai reading & writing course as well and was quite happy with both phonetic and reading/writing courses ?

But stay away from Kru Oranoot!... She was a brutal (but excellent) Ajahn!?

  9. I have a basic Samsung soundbar with a wireless subwoofer behind the couch... The soundbar was easily mounted to the bottom of the TV on the wall by buying a set of 80mm L brackets and bolting two together to make a U... then the U bracket was bolted onto the TV using the bolts that were on the TV to attach the stand (which was removed when I mounted it on the wall) the power brick is behind the TV..

Also I placed the Satellite box and my Apple TV on the back on the TV using Velcro and a few dabs of silicone glue for a nice clean look... I still have the satellite & power wires seen but eventually I will have a wood frame to place on the wall behind the TV to hide the wires too...

this is is not “Home Theatre” quality but for ~4k baht a huge improvement over the tin can TV speakers...

PS the Samsung sound bar also has a set of wireless rear speakers (SWA-8000S) that can be bought to turn to from 2.1 to 4.1 but I have not been able to find them in Thailand?...

  10. I would not take great stock in the English text translation on your bill - you may be misinterpreting it... It would be helpful to us to judge the bill in its entirety?... What are the other line items? doctor fees ear cleaning and such?

Also I had a reoccurring ear infection with fungus and after 3-4 visits to CM Ram a I tried adding Tea Tree Oil to the ear cleaning oil sold at Boots... resolved the issue and no reoccurrence in over a year...

  11. The just past the Big C/HomePro intersection going south to Hang Dong is a woodshop that makes the under cabinet style doors.. Stop in there and chat them up... they mostly have the louvered Thai stylre but can make to order... If all your doors are the same size remove one and go show it to them... I personally like and installed the teak wood louvered style that I just finished off with teak oil and painted the frames brown...

Also for knobs there is a place at the end of Zone 5 in Baan Tawai that has all sorts of knobs and such...
