My apologies! I thought the submarines were being built in the US/UK and being delivered to Australia where in fact they are to be built in Adelaide!

The Nuclear reactor and propulsion system is an integral part of the submarine and is installed during build. It cannot be fitted after build so no transport of radioactive material is required.

I think most people would put their passport in their person and carry it themselves! I thought the discussion was about taking your passport with you on routine/holiday/business trips in side Thailand NOT about planned trips where it is known that a passport is required! There is no reason for any "radioactive material" to be transported just because an SSN is in harbour. They do not carry nuclear weapons and do not need "refuelling".
