Wow! Tackling the big issues right out of the box. Let me guess, the MP wanted the government to subsidize shrimp farmers? Low prices benefit consumers, and potentially prevent over-farming/fishing. I know nothing about shrimp farming, but I'm guessing it's not that great for the environment? I understand Thailand exports a lot of shrimp, but Parliament doesn't have much control on global pricing/demand. Again, this is pure incompetence on the part of the Speaker. He could call for a roll call voice-vote on "present". IMO, they should halt all Parliamentary business until the new government if officially installed. Dumpster fires are more productive than this edition of Thai Parliament.

Pension system in need of reform as cost pressure mounts

The Prayut regime left a lot unexploded ordinance behind for the new "government" to deal with. It will be ugly. -
Thaksin submits application for royal clemency
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
First off, in Thailand rules/laws are merely guidelines, open for interpretation, and capricious application based on the "defendant's status. The King has absolute power as the Head of State and the Head of the Military (per the current Constitution), and is not limited by rules. precedents or laws. Thaksin, and his supporters, will lobby the Palace (actually this is not necessary as the process has already been agreed upon) and the public by saying that Thaksin's ~ 16 years in exile serve as the bulk of his "Served Sentence". Thaksin has a large debt to repay the olde-guard now, so when they say "jump", he'll jump. -
House fiasco opens early rift between government and opposition
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This lunacy started with the selection of an incompetent Speaker, who appears to lack a basic understanding of Parliamentary procedures. And it's gone downhill from there. He's lost control, not that he ever had it. He must resign ASAP. Simply amazing that the ruling coalition has any excuse for this, other than ignorance, and disrespect for the institution and the people. Criticizing MFP for wanting to adhere to the rules is just Classic Thai. Shut up, and do your job. What a bunch of fools, I'm surprised they even found their way to right building. -
Thaksin submits application for royal clemency
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Reflects poorly on the moral authority in Thailand... Hold a 15 year old woman for 50 days without bail for peaceful protest, on a spurious 112 charge. Spring convicted seditionists (Suthep Gang) on bail after 30 hours in jail. Pardon Thaksin, who we've been told since 2006, is criminal who was so bad he had to deposed. Does this sort of erratic behavior make sense to anyone? How can it be defended? -
Flight ticket with 100% free cancellation

I use PNR, Record Locator, Booking Reference Number, Reservation Code interchangeably, perhaps I'm lazy, inconsistent and/or misinformed. https://www.altexsoft.com/blog/pnr-explained/ To me it is a six character identifier (along with the passenger's name) that can represent everything from a booking to a ticketed reservation. A valid booking from a travel agent or onwardticket has a valid Record Locator, which will be legal and acceptable to check-in agents, who might be prompted by Timatic or internal systems, for proof of onward travel. -

Jeez, I hope you feel better after that rant. Wow! Nice passive-aggressive parry. Brilliant. Am I sensing some projection? Why even go there based on the subject of this thread. Very Skeevy. Sorry, what does that have to do with the subject of this thread? For the most part (99%), the requirement for onward travel is required by the original check-in airline. Most folks have a round trip, or an onward segment so it's not an issue. But if it applies to you then you may be flagged - OLCI usually results in a "See agent" pop-up, or tag on the PNR - for details. Actual "enforcement" of this varies widely. And you probably have a good explanation (valid permission to stay with re-entry permit). But you may be Involuntarily Denied Boarding (IDB). Pending some (re-)solution. AFAIK, onward tickets are completely legal. That said I'm not a lawyer. Travel agents can book a ticket for a customer, and cancel it for a tiny transaction fee which they recoup from customers. The terms of the two transactions can span from immediate to days even weeks in the future. Onward ticket just made the whole more streamlined. Again tens of thousands of Thais use Ghost booking (via a travel agent/or visa rep) as part part of a visa application, for obvious reasons (cost control, unknown schedule vs. visa window). This not illegal. -
PM dines with Thailand’s leading business executives
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You'd think these executives would realize that this is a bad look. And be smart enough to avoid looking like the proud owners of a shiny new "government". And I suspect many were. But not these clowns. -
I'd wait, get settled here, then renew it here, between year - 2 and year -1, dovetailed into any annual extension of stay timeframe. If I were in say, year -3 and they announced a 100% increase in the fee, I might opt for an early renewal. I have to say that the NGPs are pretty nice. I might consider getting a passport card while still in the U.S. Nice RealID compliant government passport for $3 per year ($30 for 10 years). But that's said to be being updated soon so I might wait for the new version? A Passport Card in no way substitutes for a Passport. Recent reports here, first-hand, on renewals, door-to-door have been ~ 5 weeks. I think they say 5 - 6 weeks on the US EMB BKK site. That's for the $130 fee, no expediting charges offered or needed.

Flight ticket with 100% free cancellation
bamnutsak replied to zenplay's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
FWIW, tens of thousands of Thais use a similar procedure when applying for visas for travel to other countries. Maybe just get on with "banishing" them. :rolleyes Sure. What are the rules? -
Flight ticket with 100% free cancellation
bamnutsak replied to zenplay's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yeah, Thai Immigration is not involved, and it is not a "false ticket". It is a real booking with a PNR and Customer Name available to anyone with access to a GDS. That's on a ~ 13,000 THB ticket BKK-KUL, so 15% of the purchase price. And more than a real throw-away. DMK-PNH on FD for 1,500 THB. "Banished"? Seriously? Sure, your Highness. You're a hoot. Interesting where you draw the line on "deception". -
PM dines with Thailand’s leading business executives
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Not only do the powers-that-be retain full control, they actually got PTP to self-neuter themselves. Now all that's left is to decapitate - legally using various rules, laws, commissions, and courts - MFP. Job done, and they rule for at least another eight years. -

Flight ticket with 100% free cancellation
bamnutsak replied to zenplay's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
It's called Royal Silk Full Flexi -- 2,000 THB cancellation fee. There are very few, perhaps none, fully refundable tickets, with no fees (no show/cancellation). Maybe on a corporate contract. Then you've got the potential loss, or gain, on Fx. onwardticket.com, or a similar service is the best way to go. -

You can turn mobile data OFF within the handset. You can turn mobile data OFF within the network. Turn off data via USSD service by dialing *113*2 # Call or *106 # Call Receiving SMSes anywhere is free of charge. You'll need to enable international roaming, and have a handset which supports the local roaming partner's frequencies, and have coverage. Are you prepaid or postpaid. If prepaid I think you have to contact TrueMove H directly, although that option may be buried in the True i Service mobile app. https://www.true.th/support/site/mobile_devices/2781/product/189?ln=en In theory Native (not an app) VoWiFi should work.

The days of military coups in Thailand are gone : Sutin
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Of course they are gone. The 2014 Coup was staged by the Judiciary, and the ultra-conservatives. And the recent slow-moving coup which began the day after the May 2023 election was staged by Parliament (Senators), EC and the Judiciary. The powers that be understand that military coups look bad, so they just pivoted to using other levers of power to make transitions appear quasi-Democratic. -
Srettha plays down talk of reform as Sutin emerges as defence minister

That was from 2020, trying to defend the bloated military structure, pure BS, and a promise made by someone who is leaving office.
