  1. The alleged assailant was confronted by the police subsequently, and he died in an exchange of gunfire. The suspected killer, who is now deceased, was identified as Travis Ikeguchi, 27, Sheriff Shannon Dicus said at a news conference on Monday evening. After allegedly shooting Carleton, the suspect fled the crime scene on foot, but was found by sheriff's deputies several miles from her store, where he was fatally shot in a confrontation, authorities said. The sheriff's office said the assailant was armed with a handgun, which authorities said Monday night was a Smith & Wesson 9mm automatic handgun, and refused orders to drop the weapon. When deputies tried to apprehend the suspect, he reportedly shot at them and they fired back. Despite using lifesaving measures, the suspect died at the scene, the sheriff said Monday. https://abcnews.go.com/US/california-store-owner-shot-dead-dispute-displaying-pride/story?id=102408818
  2. There are reports that he will be taken to the Supreme Court, where I assume he will be granted bail, and released perhaps with some limitations. Adjudication of his various sentences can come at a later date after he's held up his part of the deal. A Royal Pardon would come later after the initial buzz has died down. His years in exile will be used to justify no jail time.
  3. Mr. Thaksin Shinawat's flight has departed from Singapore Seletar Airport heading to Don Mueang Airport, Thailand . This flight is flown by Gulfstream G650-ER, world's leading private jet T7-GTS, expected to reach Don Mueang Airport at 9:00 AM. On the initial schedule https://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/T7GTS .

  5. My one complaint on SCB Easy is that you cannot pre-load Favorites (transfers, bill payments). You have to wait until you make the first transaction, then remember to tick the "star" icon to add to Favorites. Not being able to do a screenshot (black screen, for me anyway) is a bit annoying, but I assume that limitation is security related? You can share the slip across most other apps to support proof of payment. I mainly used web-access to transfer money to my other accounts. I can't say I miss it much. The SCB Easy app is easy to use, reliable and provides a lot of functionality. I also use it to manage my SCB Planet card.
  6. Thanks. I already have an id.me account (for myssa access), and it was one step to add pay.gov to that, then added a CC. Very easy. Thanks for mentioning that, very helpful. Still looking for recent, first-hand experience with Thailand Postmart payment. I assume that direct bank transfer, or QR/Promptpay is an option, but looking for confirmation rather than guesses.
  7. The Constitution Prohibits Trump From Ever Being President Again The only question is whether American citizens today can uphold that commitment. By J. Michael Luttig and Laurence H. Tribe As students of the United States Constitution for many decades—one of us as a U.S. Court of Appeals judge, the other as a professor of constitutional law, and both as constitutional advocates, scholars, and practitioners—we long ago came to the conclusion that the Fourteenth Amendment, the amendment ratified in 1868 that represents our nation’s second founding and a new birth of freedom, contains within it a protection against the dissolution of the republic by a treasonous president. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2023/08/donald-trump-constitutionally-prohibited-presidency/675048/
  8. The appointment page for CW lists "40 minutes" as the processing time for the Re-entry permit (REEP). They have 22 slots per day. Appointments are available in 15 minute intervals. These slots get taken up quickly. The issue with the REEP is that they process step 1 (submittal, payment) quickly, but the "approval" process seems to take a longer amount of time as they are approved in batches. My guess is that you cannot leave it one day then pick it up on a later day. I'm not sure a third-party can apply for a REEP, say like a 90-day report. Maybe with a PoA?
  9. Been there, done that. I was asking about the Thailand PostMart web-site, and which forms of payment (credit, debit, promptpay, etc) they accept for the 100 baht postage fee. I didn't want to create an account there (yet), and was unable to get the "Guest" access (phone/SMS) to work, si I was unable to get to they payment option screens. If you know the answer to my question feel free to provide it. And is pay.gov reasonably easy to use, including registration. Any unique challenges (like an SMS OTP)?
  10. What forms of payment can be used for the 100 baht envelope/postage fee?
  11. Inspiration? Bangkok's Airport Rail Link still suffering big losses from drop in passenger numbers Bangkok’s Airport Rail Link operator has been losing approximately 70 million baht per month as passenger traffic has not returned to pre-pandemic levels yet, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) said. https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/general/40028026 The Airport Rail Link is owned by the SRT, and operated (since 2021) by Asia Era One, which is part of the CP Group. One assumes they'll get this HSR/NE "concession"?
  12. Interesting that, after eight-ish years the PM, to whom the RTP report, decided to actually do something.
  13. For some reason I assumed Srettha Thavisin was an MP. He is not. (Yes, I understand that the PM does not have to be an elected MP.)
  14. This would take a lot of research and analysis, but my best guess is that there were some shenanigans (not money as some have postulated). UTN got an unusually high number of party-list votes, which, at the time, raised some eyebrows. So BJT may have encouraged some/all of their voters to vote for UTN on the party-list side.
  15. I think, at this point, it is more about having a significant majority in Parliament for passing legislation. (The PM thing will be sorted by the Senate, with Prawit or Anutin.) And knee-capping MFP, and any progressive legislation they might introduce. So the two leading parties, MFP and PTP have pretty much been decapitated in this slow-moving judicial/legislative coup. All PTP voters get out of this is the return of Thaksin, and a few ministerial troughs. The blow-back on Monarchy reforms has been resounding, even though public sentiment for changes may be greater than can be discussed.
  16. Good luck herding this clowder of cats. Going to have to teach them to share the "revenue". This is probably worse than a military-led government. They'll be arguing (about money, positions, power) 95% of the time, and solving the people's problems 5% of the time. Ugly.
  17. Again, responsibility for this debacle falls squarely on the weak, incompetent Speaker. Yes, MFP messed up by not getting the Speakership first, rookie mistake. They were lulled into supporting Wan Noor, who has proved to be complicit in the slow-moving judicial and legislative coup, although he is probably too dim to realize what he has done. A competent Speaker could have gaveled that session closed. Then gaveled a "new" session in, and a second nomination of Pita for PM could have been considered. That the CC ruled not on principle, but on standing, is another embarrassing failure, but totally expected.
  18. Now the Chinese woman driver is claiming that she was at fault by stopping unexpectedly. She wants to pay for any damage to the pick-up truck.
  19. Seeing some reports in the Thai press that she did a runner because she doesn't speak Thai. She has sent her lawyers to sort this out with the police.
  20. I think their defense is that they are advertising a "Club" and not the special 25th anniversary Chang Cold Brew Lager. ???? You'll see they are advertising an "experience", a cool, chilling lifestyle. And there is no beer actually shown, just enclosed Yetti-like tankards. It's a specious defense, but not unlike their use of their water and other sponsorships to indirectly advertise beer. I suspect their legal team approved this based their ability to mount a defense. That said, if I were the MFP chap I'd be assembling any/all of these sorts of advertising, while emphasizing one's ability to speak freely, a right guaranteed by the Thai constitution.
  21. Well, according to the local rumor mill that's because the driver doesn't want anyone asking questions about why a "Chinese Woman" was driving a RR. Tip of another "iceberg"? I'm reminded of the Tuhao kerfuffle last year. What a mess that was, and not a lot of follow up. https://thethaiger.com/hot-news/crime/chuwit-vs-the-triads-still-blowing-his-whistle https://www.thaiexaminer.com/thai-news-foreigners/2022/11/10/fake-chinese-embassy-car-and-police-escort/
  22. Knives Out Part 2. Weird that the powers that be prefer Paetongtarn, if they do. Maybe they're just picking them off one at a time until the last person waddling is Prawit.
  23. Next up... https://aseannow.com/topic/1296866-the-pita-effect-craft-spirits-sold-out/ The problem here is that there are laws which can be applied against anyone doing anything at anytime. And the laws are misused and abused. There are thousands of local craft beer reviews here on FB DAILY. But very few charges are brought. Thousands of tourists share photos while enjoying local beers. The daily silliness here can soon become a national joke. He shared a photo of a beer on Facebook. Thailand fined him more than US$4,000 https://www.scmp.com/news/asia/southeast-asia/article/3218229/he-shared-photo-beer-facebook-thailand-fined-him-more-us4000
