  1. I see some are claiming that these are actors portraying policemen, and/or policemen working as actors portraying policemen. The reaction from the brass seems to be dissatisfaction with Pol.Lt.Gen. Commander of the Provincial Police Region 7 and Pol.Lt.Gen. Phairot Khumphai, Commander of the Provincial Police in Chanburi Province. As with many things here, many different "stories". I guess he tried to get this done in Kanchanburi, but the local police commanders declined.
  2. These numbers seem to change day to day; I think the total was 79 a day or two ago? The EC has one year to conclude investigations, and would presumably, in some cases, refer cases to other 'enforcement' organizations? Twenty (20) from PTP, four (4) from MFP, I think.
  3. It's good to remember history...it repeats itself quite often here. 2001 January 6 - Thaksin's Thai Rak Thai (TRT) party wins in general election January 18 - Constitutional Court agrees to put Thaksin, who is set to become prime minister, on trial for allegedly concealing assets when he was in government in 1997. The move comes a month after his indictment by the National Countercorruption Commission, an independent body. Thaksin denied any wrongdoing in the case. February 9 - King Bhumibol Adulyadej appoints Thaksin prime minister. He would become the country's first prime minister to serve a full-term in office. August 3 -- In an 8-7 decision, the Constitutional Court acquits Thaksin of concealing assets, citing insufficient evidence. He avoids a ban from politics. It took ~ six months for the court to come to a decision. Thaksin had a HUGE electoral mandate ~ 248 MPs from 500, and no senators. MFP has 151 from 500 with 250 patrician senators.
  4. Thailand appears to be the Hub of on-line gambling. And an informal club-house for international criminals. Bad guys in, good guys deal with new rules.
  5. This must be a huge embarrassment for the Royal Thai Police. A Gigantic Joke. Every participant should be suspended without pay for at least 90 days. And the entire chain of command needs to be sacked. I can't believe the police unholster their weapons. Can't tell for sure but it looks like some Special Branch 191 members?
  6. He is Pakorn "Boy" Chatborirak. They say he is/was a very popular actor. You'd probably recognize him from adverts, Lakorns. Not sure exactly how he is tied to the original embezzlement, exactly. He may have helped, those who embezzled the 1.58 Billion baht, clean the money by purchasing high ticket items from the culprits. My guess is that he was an unwitting participant; he simply bought a Lambo off a friend. AMLO since seized the Lambo, and Lenny Lamborghini, the policeman, probably now owns it? It's all confusing, like most big crimes here, as everyone starts to hear about the big score and they go hunting for a piece of the action.
  7. The Post is a wonderful film, totally re-watchable. 10 books to read if you loved The Post https://ew.com/books/10-journalism-books-the-post/ A couple of other options: PBS Documentary - Daniel Ellsberg: The Most Dangerours Man in America https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXlmQeSpqI4 The Pentagon Papers (2003 feature film) James Spader as Ellsberg is weird after Ultron and 10 years of Raymond Reddington. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVmnjCOVJrE
  8. Wow! This is amazing news. Freedom instead of repression. Talk about kicking the Prayuth regime in groin.
  9. Funny how Yingluck took the heat for the rice support program, and any/all graft, but very little scrutiny has been applied to the Prayuth's eight-years of agricultural subsidy programs.
  10. "Honest, it was here a minute ago." Poof.
  11. Today, based on a leak. And the party leader is under extra scrutiny. And twenty (20) for PTP. Maybe. Could explain the Thaksin deal? How ironic.
  12. Yes, that's the way it works today. DTAM, part of the MoPH, oversees cannabis treatments. I can't see DTAM giving up that authority?
  13. This "sounds" like good news, but it isn't. They'll just cut, cut, cut for a year. This will ham-string any government as this axe will be hovering above their heads. Then MPs will be picked off, and entire parties dissolved. Party leaders will go to prison, or be forced to leave the country. < Assuming Pita can coax ~ 45 Senators to vote for him. I don't think any Senators, other than the 18 who've said to be backing him, will vote for him unless he SWEARS not to pursue "reforms" of the Institution. > It will be very, very ugly.
  14. You mean alcohol addiction? Gambling Addiction? Methamphetamine addiction? For Methamphetamine, if caught one one pill there is a diversion program. If two or more the support system is called "prison".
  15. Puhleez. It's the '47 or he's not getting out of bed.
  16. Edibles are ILLEGAL. On-line sales and advertising are ILLEGAL. Physical shops MUST be licensed. The issuing authority, DTAM I think, needs to bolster their requirements for issuing licenses. These are ENFORCEMENT issues. Why was your 9 YO daughter paying the mailman 900 baht for a COD order? That sounds irresponsible. The Cannabis Control Act passed a first reading in Parliament last year (June 2022) 373 MPs voted in support of the bill, with 7 against. 23 MPs abstained. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/thailands-cannabis-and-hemp-bill-sails-through-1st-reading-in-lower-house/ It got derailed on a second reading in November. Cannabis normalization really isn't a top 10 or even top 20 issue. Much, much bigger issues facing Thailand and a new government. Even the anti-Cannabis rhetoric has died down to a whimper.
  17. Try this meth. I'm surprised these idiots didn't lose a kidney or two.
  18. Wonderland is part of OG Canna Company which is part of Panthera Group, and they have five-ish big brand name shops incl. Kush House. https://ogcannacompany.com/ OG Canna CEO Ben Baskins has talked up the possible pivot to medical in several interviews. I do not believe that the medical sales channel will be as loosely controlled as it is in the U.S. DTAM/MoPH would likely control medical cannabis, and right now it is only approved as treatment for ~ six diagnoses. And foreigners would probably be excluded unless they are on Thai social services. Arthritis and glaucoma are not approved for cannabis treatment.
  19. Good read... Thailand’s moment of truth: Pita’s struggle for new regime continues Move Forward pressured to scrap proposed royal reforms as it seeks to govern https://www.ft.com/content/fff53142-f594-4fe2-bc75-cd518fc295d0 IMO, the Powers that Be will NEVER allow Pita to form a government/assume the PM role UNLESS he swears an oath to NOT pursue any reforms, and promises to stick to Prayuth's 20 year plan. Prayuth is flexing today. And if the dirt/law attacks don't work he will be proclaiming that "There will not be a coup" soon.
  20. I know it's hard to keep up with ALL the police corruption cases, but I do not believe this extortion case is related to the case in the OP.
  21. Yuck. Not a good look. FM Don should stand down. "Re-engaging" is not something a government with a very limited shelf-life (six-ish weeks) should be doing. What really precipitated the urgent nature of this meeting? Why claim this is transparent, while hiding the previous two meetings? My guess: Myanmar is worried about the transition from the Prayuth regime to a more democratic government, and wants some "guarantees" from the Myanmar-junta friendly Thai "government".
  22. Eight individuals "netted" in a province-wide effort over two weeks. Impressive. Get the vinyl poster prepared.
  23. Not sure but I think this is just the latest keystone cop (RTP) saga of the KMITL/SCB embezzlement case (1.5 billion baht) circa 2016? Something valuable goes missing, RTP officers jump on the case, see all that dosh, shake down the criminals for a cut. This one seems more convoluted than the Saudi Gem fiasco, and that's saying something. Big Joke is earning his "unusual wealth" cleaning up all these corruption cases.
  24. Not sure which case you're referring to, the "upcountry" part is not really definitive? If you're referring to Chop Doc, Wisut Boonkasemsanti, then he briefly avoided suspicion in his wife's death, but was charged, convicted and served ~ ten years, after getting two Royal pardons. https://www.nationthailand.com/in-focus/30240179
