  1. SCOTUS, with Dobbs says to let the states decide on abortion rights. Republican ruled states say, "not so fast". Who could have seen that coming? From the linked article... Legislatures in Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio and Oklahoma are debating bills this session that would hike the filing fees, raise the number of signatures required to get on the ballot, restrict who can collect signatures, mandate broader geographic distribution of signatures, and raise the vote threshold to pass an amendment from a majority to a supermajority. While the bills vary in wording, they would have the same impact: limiting voters’ power to override abortion restrictions that Republicans imposed, which took effect after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last year. Everyone hates a sore winner. So much for "the will of the people".
  2. I would ask friends/MiL to purchase one or two pre-paid SIMs in Thailand for you/wife. Ask them to top these up to the maximum 366 days. Have them enable international roaming. Have them isntall and register the servicer provider's apps. Have them mail these SIMs to you wherever you are. Once received verify network connectivity - shouldn't be an issue. Then get to work with the banks to regioster your new contact numbers - this may be the most challeneging but can be done remotely. Or as KannikaP mentions, use the bank's web-based access, although this may offer a different exeprience. May I ask which bank(s)? And which transactions require an OTP? I use BBL and SCB and neither require an OTP (PC/Web or mobile app), but maybe I disabled that option? Or my phone's IMEI is somehow registered within the app?
  3. "Little Ghosts", over 100,000 Thais in Korea illegally. This NE/province rumor is probably a result of the recent amnesty push? Thailand’s ‘little ghosts’ have until end-Feb to leave South Korea Thais working illegally in South Korea are being offered one last chance to return home without having to pay a huge fine, the government announced on Friday. Deputy government spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek said more than 100,000 Thai illegal workers, referred to as “Phi Noi” (little ghosts), are working in South Korea and Seoul has set February 28 as the deadline for them to return home. She said if the workers return within February, they will not have to pay the 30 million won (about 800,000 baht) penalty. https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/policies/40024593
  4. Can you tell us who makes up this group of "crazies" and "idiots"? I assume you know who they are as you KNOW they are crazy, and are idiots. For a small group to wield such influence they seem to be quite successful. Are they "globalists"? So you feel oppressed and aggrieved? Do you feel this way when your ideas are criticized?
  5. Financial distress, criminal activity, job loss, methamphetamine were factors in some of the more recent mass murders (Korat, Uthai Sawan). I suspect/hope more details are released on this officer's history. Floating the cannabis angle seems like a second try (a history of mental illness was floated during the siege) at an excuse. If that doesn't work there will be other reasons/excuses.
  6. There are other news reports saying cannabis was found in his home, and a few scraggly plants growing outside. Based on the photos I'm not sure he was getting any effects from that weed? I'm sure they checked for other substances, like meth. https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/2023/03/17/marijuana-concerns-in-the-gunman-cop-case/
  7. He did. I think. He said it's a shorthand word used to "mock the left". So it's not a "thing". It's an ephemeral "thought" used to express dissatisfaction with something the speaker finds scary and overwhelming. Defining it would limit its universal usage now enjoyed by the right. The use of this word appears to say more about the speaker than the intended target. That said, it won't resonate with a majority of the U.S. population.
  8. The authorities are floating the idea that this officer was growing and smoking cannabis. https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/2023/03/17/marijuana-concerns-in-the-gunman-cop-case/ Sounds like a reach?
  9. If I didn't state it already, I am not a lawyer. This case could go on for YEARS, and in the meantime what happens to Dominion's business? With a settlement, Dominion could demand all sorts of conditions from Fox, in addition to a negotiated monetary settlement. Those might include positive statements on Dominion's products so states continue to buy them, and an admission of all the things Fox did wrong. Are they? What is that point?
  10. Are you an American? Living in Thailand? You are impacted by President Biden's comments? You'd support strong anti-trans laws for Thailand? Can you elaborate on some of these policies? Who is inflicting them on you? How do they impact your life? Are you able to cope with these policies? It sounds like you are being oppressed. I am sorry that you feel left behind by progress, I do understand that can be hard on some people.
  11. Thanks for that Vice News video, that is honestly the first time I've heard "wokery" used. Did I spell that correctly? And evidently "woke" has financial ramifications. In an odd twist, Sen. Hawley R MO, says that Silicon Valley Bank was "too woke to fail". Meaning, I guess, that the bank was too woke, it failed because it was "woke", and only woke banks get "rescued", and maybe all banks should not be rescued, woke or not? Or maybe only un-woke (is that a word?) banks should be rescued? Understanding "woke" is a lot more challenging than pronouns, those two, three and four letter words we learned in grade school. Josh Hawley labels Silicon Valley Bank 'too woke to fail' Some Republicans have claimed the bank went down because it was too focused on "woke" policies. But the GOP senator insists those policies are actually the reason it was protected. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/josh-hawley-labels-silicon-valley-bank-woke-fail-rcna75351
  12. A lot of the fringier Republicans are telling us that SVB collapsed due to "Wokeness". And maybe too much regulation? Or maybe not enough regulation?
  13. Conservatives struggle to define "Woke" in any consistent and coherent way. The best definition I've heard so far is that "Whatever I don't like is Woke." Which of course exposes the idiocy of such a concept. A viral moment reinforces the hollowness of ‘woke’ as an attack One of conservative writer Bethany Mandel’s least disputable comments during her appearance on the Hill’s streaming show “Rising” was a prediction she made as she fumbled a reply to host Briahna Joy Gray: “This is going to be one of those moments that goes viral.” Mandel had been asked a seemingly simple question by Gray. She was on the show to promote a book she wrote with another conservative writer, Karol Markowicz, a book that purports to demonstrate how “radicals” are “indoctrinating” young people in America. Mandel began the interview by asserting that there is “sort of a woke reimagining of our society” that is “happening in a lot of different ways” — spurring Gray to eventually ask her what she meant by the term “woke.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/03/15/woke-liberals-desantis/
  14. What a strange thing to assume and state? I don't hate you. I don't know you, and I expend zero energy on "hate". Do you often feel that people who have different opinions than you hate you? Is everything about winning? Do you feel like you have to win, or you somehow feel inadequate? Nobody is losing anything. I mean other than trans-people in the U.S. Look I get that the world is changing quite rapidly, and that many feel left behind and long for the good old days. That said, I'm struggling to understand why these anti-Trans laws in the U.S, and POTUS's statement impact you as a Brit (assuming you'er handle is descriptive) and a resident in Thailand. Evidently you care. I mean you took the time to write a post. And as for that noodle, talk to a Doctor, I'm sure there's a pill for it.
  15. I think this is a good thing, painful in the near-term, as they move towards less defensible policies daily. Eventually the repurcussions will be deafening.
  16. Time for the superficiality and misogyny. Both were/are at the top of their respective professions. Ms. Yeoh cerrtainly has an enviable career spanning what 30+ years. Across all types of genres. She is amazing, and capping it off with a Best Actor Oscar is apropos. I'll watch any film with her in the cast. Yingluck had a full and successful life before becoming the first female PM in Thailand. She faced a lot of hurdles implementing policies, and was brought down in an illegal fashion, perhaps because some feared how successful she might be in charting a course for Thailand towards more equality.
  17. All the issues anti-trans people raise are addressable. Sheesh, we put a man on the moon surely we can handle bathrooms, sports, and all the other stuff? We had separate facilites for blacks in the U.S. for a hundred years. We built facilities for handicapped people without any issues.
  18. So all the biological males at CMU are a "danger"?
  19. Thank you for that honest clarification. I understand your concern. Was your daughter similarly concerned? Sexual assault is of course a serious crime. I'd submit that most sexual assault is committed by someone known to the victim, often a close relative. I'd also submit that the incident of transgender MTF sexual assualt on females is insignificantly small as a percentage. Grasp at another straw.
  20. Thank you for sharing your valuable insight. lol. One needs to see the exact wording of the questions, and of course the sample characteristics, before you can judge the relevance and accuracy. Otherwise the poll is about as useful as your comment.
  21. You can find it on their websites and billboards. Usually limited to one ~ three main planks, unsually involving giving something free to the public. Prawit/UTN is spouting about "reconcilliation". The last time any policy was promoted and implemented? BJT with Cannabis normalization. So don't hold your breath.
  22. All this new party creation, re-branding and hopping is the "real" election being decided at a slower pace. Well that and ham-stringing any opposition. The actualy voting by the public will be irrelevant.
  23. I won't even ask how this "endangers" anyone? Projecting your insecurities and fears is a waste of time IMO. That said, you live in Thailand so your concern for matters in the U.S. are perplexing. Thailand seems to be coping with transgender persons somewhat effectively (not perfectly). Genetalia, bathrooms, prisons, military, drag-shows (cabarets) etc. don't seem to be huge problems. Thai females do not seem to have issues sharing bathrooms with MTF transgender people. Why do you seem to have an issue with a bathroom which you do not utilize?
  24. S.C. Republicans propose bill that could subject women who have abortions to the death penalty South Carolina Republicans are pushing legislation that would make a person who undergoes an abortion subject to the state's homicide laws, which include the death penalty. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/sc-republicans-propose-bill-subject-women-abortions-death-penalty-rcna75060 Sheesh, even Alex Murdaugh didn't get the death penalty in SC for murdering his wife and son. Yes, this case in Texas, filed in a federal district where only one conservative judge - who was only confirmed after a long, long struggle- will decide on a nation-wide ban, is disturbing. But I say go for it. Keep digging, the blowback on the assualt of individual rights will be immense.
  25. Not that it matters but in my opinion results of polls like this are worthless without publishing the questions which were used. And these sorts of stories should not be published without some link to those questions.
