If I didn't state it already, I am not a lawyer. This case could go on for YEARS, and in the meantime what happens to Dominion's business? With a settlement, Dominion could demand all sorts of conditions from Fox, in addition to a negotiated monetary settlement. Those might include positive statements on Dominion's products so states continue to buy them, and an admission of all the things Fox did wrong. Are they? What is that point?

Biden says anti-trans laws are 'close to sinful'
bamnutsak replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Are you an American? Living in Thailand? You are impacted by President Biden's comments? You'd support strong anti-trans laws for Thailand? Can you elaborate on some of these policies? Who is inflicting them on you? How do they impact your life? Are you able to cope with these policies? It sounds like you are being oppressed. I am sorry that you feel left behind by progress, I do understand that can be hard on some people. -
Thanks for that Vice News video, that is honestly the first time I've heard "wokery" used. Did I spell that correctly? And evidently "woke" has financial ramifications. In an odd twist, Sen. Hawley R MO, says that Silicon Valley Bank was "too woke to fail". Meaning, I guess, that the bank was too woke, it failed because it was "woke", and only woke banks get "rescued", and maybe all banks should not be rescued, woke or not? Or maybe only un-woke (is that a word?) banks should be rescued? Understanding "woke" is a lot more challenging than pronouns, those two, three and four letter words we learned in grade school. Josh Hawley labels Silicon Valley Bank 'too woke to fail' Some Republicans have claimed the bank went down because it was too focused on "woke" policies. But the GOP senator insists those policies are actually the reason it was protected. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/josh-hawley-labels-silicon-valley-bank-woke-fail-rcna75351

Silicon Valley Bank collapses after failing to raise capital
bamnutsak replied to Scott's topic in World News
A lot of the fringier Republicans are telling us that SVB collapsed due to "Wokeness". And maybe too much regulation? Or maybe not enough regulation? -
Conservatives struggle to define "Woke" in any consistent and coherent way. The best definition I've heard so far is that "Whatever I don't like is Woke." Which of course exposes the idiocy of such a concept. A viral moment reinforces the hollowness of ‘woke’ as an attack One of conservative writer Bethany Mandel’s least disputable comments during her appearance on the Hill’s streaming show “Rising” was a prediction she made as she fumbled a reply to host Briahna Joy Gray: “This is going to be one of those moments that goes viral.” Mandel had been asked a seemingly simple question by Gray. She was on the show to promote a book she wrote with another conservative writer, Karol Markowicz, a book that purports to demonstrate how “radicals” are “indoctrinating” young people in America. Mandel began the interview by asserting that there is “sort of a woke reimagining of our society” that is “happening in a lot of different ways” — spurring Gray to eventually ask her what she meant by the term “woke.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/03/15/woke-liberals-desantis/

Biden says anti-trans laws are 'close to sinful'

What a strange thing to assume and state? I don't hate you. I don't know you, and I expend zero energy on "hate". Do you often feel that people who have different opinions than you hate you? Is everything about winning? Do you feel like you have to win, or you somehow feel inadequate? Nobody is losing anything. I mean other than trans-people in the U.S. Look I get that the world is changing quite rapidly, and that many feel left behind and long for the good old days. That said, I'm struggling to understand why these anti-Trans laws in the U.S, and POTUS's statement impact you as a Brit (assuming you'er handle is descriptive) and a resident in Thailand. Evidently you care. I mean you took the time to write a post. And as for that noodle, talk to a Doctor, I'm sure there's a pill for it. -

I think this is a good thing, painful in the near-term, as they move towards less defensible policies daily. Eventually the repurcussions will be deafening. -
Yingluck or Michelle Yeoh? Netizens debate who's the best looking
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Time for the superficiality and misogyny. Both were/are at the top of their respective professions. Ms. Yeoh cerrtainly has an enviable career spanning what 30+ years. Across all types of genres. She is amazing, and capping it off with a Best Actor Oscar is apropos. I'll watch any film with her in the cast. Yingluck had a full and successful life before becoming the first female PM in Thailand. She faced a lot of hurdles implementing policies, and was brought down in an illegal fashion, perhaps because some feared how successful she might be in charting a course for Thailand towards more equality.- 59 replies

Biden says anti-trans laws are 'close to sinful'
bamnutsak replied to Social Media's topic in World News
All the issues anti-trans people raise are addressable. Sheesh, we put a man on the moon surely we can handle bathrooms, sports, and all the other stuff? We had separate facilites for blacks in the U.S. for a hundred years. We built facilities for handicapped people without any issues. -

Thank you for that honest clarification. I understand your concern. Was your daughter similarly concerned? Sexual assault is of course a serious crime. I'd submit that most sexual assault is committed by someone known to the victim, often a close relative. I'd also submit that the incident of transgender MTF sexual assualt on females is insignificantly small as a percentage. Grasp at another straw. -
Sam Mitr faction leaders quit Palang Pracharath to join Pheu Thai
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
You can find it on their websites and billboards. Usually limited to one ~ three main planks, unsually involving giving something free to the public. Prawit/UTN is spouting about "reconcilliation". The last time any policy was promoted and implemented? BJT with Cannabis normalization. So don't hold your breath. -

All this new party creation, re-branding and hopping is the "real" election being decided at a slower pace. Well that and ham-stringing any opposition. The actualy voting by the public will be irrelevant. -

I won't even ask how this "endangers" anyone? Projecting your insecurities and fears is a waste of time IMO. That said, you live in Thailand so your concern for matters in the U.S. are perplexing. Thailand seems to be coping with transgender persons somewhat effectively (not perfectly). Genetalia, bathrooms, prisons, military, drag-shows (cabarets) etc. don't seem to be huge problems. Thai females do not seem to have issues sharing bathrooms with MTF transgender people. Why do you seem to have an issue with a bathroom which you do not utilize? -
Abortion pill challenge goes before judge in Texas
bamnutsak replied to onthedarkside's topic in World News
S.C. Republicans propose bill that could subject women who have abortions to the death penalty South Carolina Republicans are pushing legislation that would make a person who undergoes an abortion subject to the state's homicide laws, which include the death penalty. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/sc-republicans-propose-bill-subject-women-abortions-death-penalty-rcna75060 Sheesh, even Alex Murdaugh didn't get the death penalty in SC for murdering his wife and son. Yes, this case in Texas, filed in a federal district where only one conservative judge - who was only confirmed after a long, long struggle- will decide on a nation-wide ban, is disturbing. But I say go for it. Keep digging, the blowback on the assualt of individual rights will be immense. -
The Dems are irrelevant as more and more members jump ship Unless PTP garners a super majority of MP seats, or otherwise could form a coalition, this is largely irrelevant. The powers that be will not allow that to happen. PPRP and UTN, along with BJT will form the next government. I do not believe that any of these three will highlight cannabis normalization as a MAJOR campaign issue, nor should it be. There are at least two dozen other, more important issues. I think their position will be to let the next Parliamentary seesion deal with the Cannabis Control Act, as it should be. The next parliament can debate personal use/medical-only, and any other controls, or put it back on the Narcotics list and fill up the prisons. By that time there will be a full year's history for folks to deal with the pluses and minuses. I thinkw e can all agree that young people should not have easy access to booze, tobacco, gambling, cannabis. Currently cannabis sales are restricted to those twenty-years and above. I think most of these "house is on fire because of cannabis normalization" articles are click-bait. The sources know they get a huge response so they keep manufacturing them. The amount of negative press far outweighs the impact on daily life. Inspiring outrage in your customer set seems to be the only way to maintain numbers and rise above the others in the cesspool.

Former national police chief Chakthip to face corruption charges
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Glaciers move faster than the NACC. The NACC is a joke, a big one. It is more akin to a a giant rug, under which corruption cases get swept. They are held, sometimes for decades, before being trotted out to bring down some now current "enemy of the state". -
The authorities perpetrating this violent assault on an older woman knew what they were doing was reprehensible. The official (police? army? ISOC? SBB191?) deployed an umbrella to hide the assault. I'm reminded of the lad quietly reading 1984 while eating a sandwich, being dragged away by the police. Or the Hunger Games-inspired three-fingered salute. You know a government or institution has no real legitimate claim to power when they are frightened by one single individual, or a simple silent display. They know how weak they are, and they fear their own citizens.

"Seems"? Number of children killed or injured during drag show story hour: 0 Number of children killed or injured by firearms in 2022: 6,023 Please find a better rationalization for all these anti-trans bills. This isn't about safeguarding children, who've evidently been unaffected by trans folks for years Now, all of a sudden it's a major crisis? Seriously. -
Whitewater Benghazi Hilary's emails Hilary's email server Photos of Hunter Biden's genetalia. Investigations into a single, private individual seems like just the sort of overreach the right loves to whine about. But this dog still wants to catch the car. I say go for it. Spend your valuable congressional time investigating Hunter Biden rather than addressing issues important to the American people.
