Passenger numbers on Yellow Line train drop now fares are being charged
Maybe it needs to be "broken in"? ???? And it will be smooth as silk in no time. Unlike the axel seat on the songthaew, at least you're riding in cool, aircon comfort, and not getting wet. I did find it quite cheapish, rinky-dink, bumpy AF, a bare step up from the "Gold Line" (compared, yes I know that's not 'fair', to the heavier duty BTS and MRT). Is it better than nothing? Heck yeah. So, yes, it's acceptable. Now, which ticket do I need to post here? The ticketing thing is a gigantic black-eye, what doofii can't fix this?

Golf dreams dashed: Thailand’s rising star disqualified from US Women’s Open after 5-hole fiasco
They must have emails advising of rules, they must have been a player's briefing? they must have been a caddie's briefing - covering unique rules like range-finder use. IMO, the Starter, or another tournament official, should inform players and caddies at tee-off. This seems like it's down to a LPGA process issue, which should be addressed, and a language/communication issue (Thai golfer, Korean Caddie {Jinsup Kim}, American/english language). Natthakritta Vongtaveelap appears to be a(nother) gifted Thai female golfer. Hopefully she can bounce back. She needs a more experienced caddie, and a Thai-American body-person.

Passenger numbers on Yellow Line train drop now fares are being charged
'Nuff said. I think the Pink and Yellow lines use the same rolling stock. Hence my question. I care because eventually someone has to pay. I agree that fares need to be subsidized by the government. But so far that hasn't happened. BMA doesn't have the budget. And the Prayut regime let this problem slide forever, and just this week passed it off to the "next" government.

Japanese Tourist Questions Structural Integrity of Thai Bridges; Sparks Online Debate
I couldn't find the Twitter thread. There are, I think, three separate bridges at Phra Nang Klao. Two for vehicles and one for the MRT Purple line. It looks like the photo shows the support structure for the newer, taller, 6-lane bridge? It looks like they had to wedge those piers wherever they could (note the 'house' in the photo below), given the surface road restrictions? In some cases they have two piers, in others just one. I assume that the design was/is sufficient. Hopefully the actual structure represents the design. No clue how much accommodation is made for earthquakes given that most seismic activity in Thailand is far from Bangkok? Meanwhile the Japanese chap has probably witnessed several massive quakes in Japan.

Passenger numbers on Yellow Line train drop now fares are being charged
I think they ordered 28 or 30 Four-Car sets. How many have been delivered? Other than the paint job can they plug/play rolling stock with the Pink Line? How much will this line lose per month? The green line operator is owed what, 78.83 BILLION Baht. The airport rail link is losing 70 MILLION Baht per month. https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/economy/40029112 https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/general/40028026

Biden likely violated First Amendment during COVID-19 pandemic, federal judge says
Who's First Amendment right was "violated" by the government? After a brief scan this looks pretty flimsy. https://casetext.com/case/missouri-v-biden-4 But legal scholars I respect say the White House and Biden Admin officials may have gone too far in coercing the social media companies. And that SCOTUS would uphold this 6:3. And that would set some precedent/limits on what the Government can do re: affecting social media. The specter of fascism seems a bit hysterical. I mean there were many many outlets for free speech re: COVID, vaccines, masks. etc.

Trump lashes out at Biden family, media after cocaine found at White House
I assume they have robust video surveillance which can be used to narrow the pool of suspects. And maybe they can do drug tests?

MFP leader Pita Limjaroenrat’s wealth disclosure unveils assets of 85 million baht
I've been behind a blue-hair auntie at the update machine when she starts running through at least 20 passbooks (and that's at just one bank) shortly after the first of the month. Surely the total amount is more noteworthy than the number of accounts? But then I need this same level of detail for others, in order to compare/contrast and come up with some sort of valid concern. I'd guess most of us have more than this on deposit? On the plus side, I wouldn't have to file a FBAR with this amount.

Wan Noor: The New House speaker with Deep South convictions and a party-hopping past
I assume that he is not supportive of peace/self-rule in the restive South marriage equality, regardless of the total quantity of wives alcohol/cannabis deregulation Weird that a 79 YO, from a tiny party with no mandate gets such a powerful position. I guess they couldn't find someone older? Yes, I now he has experience including House Speaker, and several ministerial posts, but honestly couldn't they find someone younger, whom Nor could advise thereby passing on knowledge to a younger generation? This guy will be 83 when/if he finishes his term. Speaker is a physically demanding position, it seems cruel to abuse an elderly man like this.

MFP leader Pita Limjaroenrat’s wealth disclosure unveils assets of 85 million baht
Has the NACC released the financial disclosures of others? In such detail (number of ties, pairs of shoes)? I looked, couldn't find them, but suspect they are publicly available. NACC Powers and Duties Wiki to inspect the accuracy, actual existence, as well as change of assets and liabilities of persons holding positions under Section 259 and Section 264 as stated in the account and supporting documents submitted. Political office-holders as well as high-ranking officials must report their assets before assuming their posts and after they leave the posts. They are not required to declare assets while in office.[9] NACC financial disclosure rules do not apply to National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) members. Also exempt are members of the NCPO-appointed 200-member National Reform Steering Assembly.[10] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Anti-Corruption_Commission_(Thailand)

Extra account for retirement visa?
Regarding Bangkok Bank specifically, will they allow a current standard passbook savings account holder to open a second account (fixed, or standard) without issue? Does one need to demonstrate the provenance of the 800,000? From outside of Thailand? Denoted as FTT? In one lump sum? Can the 800,000 be transferred into Thailand into one BBL account and then transferred to a second BBL account?

Second deputy House speaker-elect has a fiery reputation
I understand the context. And that doesn't justify such behavior, in my opinion.

Ruangkrai will be along shortly to file a claim that Pita possesses three undeclared marigold garlands.

Dozy deputy: Prawit, once again, caught napping on the job in Parliament
There have been quite a few, vastly different, excuses put forward by Prawit and his supporters. All "explanations" offered varied so much that it is obvious they were fashioned on the spot separately by each individual, and make the situation worse. Now he's a joke, a meme - some great Thai memes after this latest nap. Although one could argue he has been a meme since the watch kerfuffle. I also noticed that they zoom in his head only when he waddles to the town-car so he doesn't look so fragile. Maybe just name him honorary PM for a day and be done with it.

Second deputy House speaker-elect has a fiery reputation
Seems on the edge between passion and bat-poop crazed. I wouldn't call this sort of behavior acceptable or conducive to the parliamentary process. Clean up on aisle 3. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ltxt2fykIzM

Awesome Pizza on Soi 11 Bangkok !
I don't think so. Watching the video it's called Tony's. And Vesuvio is on Soi 8 (first alley on the right). Vesuvio is my go to. Either for delivery or dine-in. I usually bring all visitors there if I can't talk them into something more regional.

USA Passport Renewal
I assume everyone who files for a renewal here is receiving a Next Gen Passport (NGP)? https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/passport-help/next-generation-passport.html Note the new numbering scheme: The passport number in the NGP book begins with a letter, followed by eight numbers. It is located in the top right corner of your data page and is included throughout the NGP book on the bottom of each page. Not sure if delays in the U.S. affect renewals submitted here but...the USEMBBKK site still says five to six weeks, so maybe not. You can prepare your passport application package at any time and the process may take up to five to six weeks from the date we receive your application to when you receive your new passport book by mail. If you are renewing your passport card by mail please expect six weeks to receive your replacement card. US passport applications are now backlogged up to 13 weeks — making it almost too late to get one until 2024 Waits for renewals have increased from 11 weeks to 13 weeks. https://www.businessinsider.com/us-passport-renewal-application-backlog-up-to-eleven-weeks-2023-2 BTW I did notice this change on the USEMBBKK website. As of April 10, 2023, the Embassy/Consulate will no longer issue passport linkage letters with newly issued passports. If a Thai government office requests one, your cancelled passport and your newly issued passport will suffice. You may download this letter (PDF 70KB) in Thai and English that explains the change in Embassy policy. https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/passports/adult-passport-renew/

Pita To Be Given Second Chance For PM: Wan Noor
That's a feature of Thai-style democracy, where politicians are not to be trusted and need to be overseen by "good people". Just part of the Thai social construct.

EC Extends Probe Into Pita’s Eligibility
The first rule about Monarchy reforms is you do not talk about Monarchy reforms. Given AG Naree's track record Pita is probably in trouble. Naree Tantasathien: Thailand’s top lawyer weighing Move Forward, Pita’s future In November 2022, she approved the prosecution on sedition charges of three key figures of the dissolved Future Forward Party – Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, Piyabutr Saengkanokkul and Pannika Wanich. Her decision came after the police rejected the public prosecutors’ push to dismiss the case. The police wanted the trio to be charged with sedition for allegedly inciting political gatherings in October 2020. The case was brought by former yellow-shirt activist Suwit Thongprasert, who previously practiced as a monk under the name Phra Buddha Isara before being defrocked and convicted of detaining two policemen. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/naree-tantasathien-thailands-top-lawyer-weighing-move-forward-pitas-future/#:~:text=Naree is Thailand's first female,Piyabutr Saengkanokkul and Pannika Wanich.

Pita To Be Given Second Chance For PM: Wan Noor
I did not infer that this was a "legal requirement", but rather a personal responsibility for an honorable person, appointed to their position by the King. Transitional Provisions Section 272. During the first five years, the senators shall be appointed by the King upon the recommendation of the National Council for Peace and Order and have the power to vote for the Prime Minister. which will be eligible from 2019 to 2024.

Dozy deputy: Prawit, once again, caught napping on the job in Parliament
He's got a number of ailments, although details are scant. He makes visits to the U.S. and the U.K. for treatments (public news) but very little is said about those ailments. I remember hearing about "angioplasty" and "stents", but that was years ago. The public would probably be more accommodating if details were released, but I understand the need for privacy too. He was rumored to be quite the "bachelor" in his day.

Dozy deputy: Prawit, once again, caught napping on the job in Parliament
Of course Parliament just approved a 79 year old Speaker, because, I guess, they couldn't find someone older? He'll be 83 at the end of his term. This almost seems like elder abuse. Yes, experience counts but eventually you need a rookie, if only because those with experience have died off. Better to have someone younger serve as first-time Speaker with Wan Noor as an advisor, transferring his institutional knowledge.

Pita To Be Given Second Chance For PM: Wan Noor
That change greatly benefited the King. The reforms for 112 suggested to date are quite mild IMO, and will not restrict the ability to charge people with 112.
