No True Move Wallet for Foreigners?
bamnutsak replied to Zenwind's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
How often do you use it? What do you use it for? I thought it would be great for using Grab without any foreign CC uplift. It's OK until you have a problem with a purchase, where getting resolution was impossible. -
Crime Thailand Prepares to Destroy Over 28 Tonnes of Seized Drugs

Published seizures, whether in the jungles in the north, or at sea, seems to be eclipsing recent figures. Just the other day... THAILAND BUSTS MAJOR DRUG RING WITH 2.4-TON CRYSTAL METH AT SEA BANGKOK — Thai authorities have intercepted nearly 2.4 tons of crystal methamphetamine with an estimated international street value exceeding $91 million USD during a maritime smuggling operation in the Gulf of Thailand. https://www.khaosodenglish.com/featured/2025/06/23/thailand-busts-major-drug-ring-with-2-4-ton-crystal-meth-at-sea/ Drug smuggler killed, 4.2 million meth pills seized in Chiang Rai shootout In Chiang Rai‘s Mae Fah Luang district, a drug smuggler was killed and 4.2 million methamphetamine pills were seized following a 10-minute exchange of gunfire between armed traffickers and an army patrol early on June 6. https://thethaiger.com/news/northern-thailand/drug-smuggler-killed-4-2m-meth-pills-seized-in-chiang-rai-shootout -
Yes, that seems correct but... Somsak Thepsuthin, the Minister of Public Health is quoted in many sources as saying that Cannabis Flower will be added back to the Cat 5 Narcotics List. "Cannabis will be classified as a narcotic in the future," Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin said on Tuesday. Three years ago, Thailand became one of the first countries in Asia to decriminalise the recreational use of cannabis, but without any comprehensive rules to govern the sector. Now I see him adding a caveat...saying Cannabis Flower will be reclassified as a Cat 5 Narcotic "within 45 days". So to me this Gazetted document merely adds to the current regulations.

FWIW this person is no longer Minister of Health, he caught a stray in the last reshuffle. Somsak Thepsuthin is the current Minister of Public Health. Given the dates and error I'm not sure this document/translation is accurate?

No True Move Wallet for Foreigners?

Within the TrueMoney app you can top-up from your bank account. Press the "Top-Up" orange button next to your current balance. Then select your bank's mobile app which launches that app on your phone. Add value. Very easy. Successfully registering for TrueMoney Wallet was "document intensive" as I recall, but my application was approved within a week. -

Report Thailand to Reclassify Cannabis as Controlled Substance

Reclassified as a Category 5 Narcotic... Marijuana to be relisted as narcotic under Category 5 Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsuthin on Tuesday reaffirmed his determination to reclassify marijuana as a Category 5 narcotic, effectively outlawing its recreational use once again. He also made clear that the Bhumjaithai Party’s cannabis control bill would never be passed during the current government's term. Somsak, who has long opposed the liberal cannabis policy initiated under the previous government, told reporters at Government House that marijuana “will definitely be put back” on the narcotics list. https://www.nationthailand.com/news/politics/40051671 Penalties for Class 5 Narcotics... e) Category 5: fine of up to Baht 1,500,000 (one million, five hundred thousand Thai baht) and imprisonment not exceeding 15 years; -
Have to see how this shakes out in the final Act's wording. Some major differences in the the House and Senate versions. Hopefully first-party (me remitting funds to myself) remittances by U.S. citizens will be exempt. And if not, the 3.5% withheld can be eligible for a refund. Will be interested to see how ATM and credit card usage gets treated. Could be messy and cumbersome, with unintended consequences.

Report Thailand to Reclassify Cannabis as Controlled Substance

I don't understand why the Health Minister can't reclassify Cannabis Flower as a narcotic with the stroke of a pen? That is how Anutin, as Health Minister, struck Cannabis Flower off the Narcotics lists. 20 Bangkok cannabis shops inspected to ensure legal compliance Authorities inspect 20 cannabis shops across Bangkok to enforce regulations; some found violating rules by allowing smoking and failing to report sales—ordered shut for 10–14 days. The Ministry of Public Health, in cooperation with the Narcotics Suppression Bureau, the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), and related agencies, deployed over 100 office. https://www.nationthailand.com/news/general/40051596 -
SWIFT-WISE Breakeven?
bamnutsak replied to NoDisplayName's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Are you currently in Thailand? Or the U.S.? Have you already set up a first-party standing wire transfer order with Fidelity and your Bangkok Bank account? I had to, done in person at a Fidelity branch in the U.S. as this form requires a medallion signature guarantee. I can "see" my BBL account in my list of available transfers, but I cannot make a transfer online (web or app), I have to call in each time. If not, you may have to do this before you can make a transfer. Obviously, check with Fidelity. -

Tourism Israel-Iran Conflict Puts a Damper on Thailand's Tourist Dreams

Airlines are already cancelling flights/cutting back on service. Fuel prices may rise, then fares will rise. Tourists may choose to defer vacation or leisure travel by remaining closer to home during uncertain times.
