Trump Starts Global Tariff Wall, Thailand Hit with 36% Tax
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
What is the current, pre-Liberation Day, tariff on Thai exports to the U.S.? Is this 36% universal? Meaning on everything? Is this 36% in addition to any existing tariffs? -
Trump Tells Inner Circle That Musk Will Leave Soon President Donald Trump has told his inner circle, including members of his Cabinet, that Elon Musk will be stepping back in the coming weeks from his current role as governing partner, ubiquitous cheerleader and Washington hatchet man. Musk’s looming exit comes as some Trump administration insiders and many outside allies have become frustrated with his unpredictability and increasingly view the billionaire as a political liability, a dynamic that was thrown into stark relief Tuesday when a conservative judge Musk vocally supported lost his bid for a Wisconsin Supreme Court seat by 10 points. https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2025/04/02/trump-musk-leaving-political-liability-00265784 Wisconsin is a 50/50 state, interestingly, their Congressional delegation is six republicans and two democrats.

So which levers of power did trump manipulate to lower the price of eggs? https://sentientmedia.org/egg-prices-trump/
-
I think we are importing more eggs to address the shortages caused by bird-flu culling. And bird-flu seems to be decreasing. And there is obviously a difference between wholesale and retail prices. Not sure what the trump administration did though? Is there an Egg Tsar?

Trump Unveils 25% Auto Tariffs, Escalating Global Trade Tensions

ADJUSTING IMPORTS OF AUTOMOBILES AND AUTOMOBILE PARTS INTO THE UNITED STATES https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/03/adjusting-imports-of-automobiles-and-autombile-parts-into-the-united-states/ I think trump plans to announce new, reciprocal tariffs next Wednesday, on what he calls "Liberation Day". Trump’s Reciprocal-Tariffs Calculations Remain Unclear Before the Big Reveal on April 2 On February 13, President Donald Trump issued a Fair and Reciprocal Plan designed to reduce U.S. trade deficits in goods. The plan will assess “non-reciprocal trade relationships” and respond by imposing tariffs calibrated to targeted countries’ total trade barriers. The tariffs are scheduled to be announced on April 2. The administration has not provided details on how the reciprocal tariffs will be calculated and which countries will be targeted. However, Trump’s team has indicated that reciprocal rates will reflect a combination of factors specific to each country, such as their tariff rates, value-added taxes (VATs), nontariff measures, and foreign-exchange policies. On March 18, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent stated that the administration will focus on partners with whom the United States has a large trade deficit. Bessent referenced the “Dirty Fifteen,” which he explained as the fifteen percent of countries that make up “a huge amount of our trading volume.” To date, no countries have been officially named. https://www.cfr.org/article/trumps-reciprocal-tariffs-calculations-remain-unclear-big-reveal-april-2 Thailand is in the "Dirty Fifteen". https://realeconomy.rsmus.com/market-minute-the-dirty-15-or-those-economies-likely-to-be-targeted-with-selected-tariffs/ -

Trump Tariff Turmoil: Thai Car Market Skids to a Halt

I thought the next round of tariffs would be announced on April 2, but the need to deflect from the Signal-gate fiasco led to tariffs being announced today. I've honestly lost track of the "Tariffs on, Tariffs off" status. Tariffs on Chinese EVs may be as high as ~ 170%, which would benefit musk/tesla I would think. Trump places 25% tariff on imported autos. Carmakers could face higher costs and lower sales WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump said he was placing 25% tariffs on auto imports, a move the White House claims would foster domestic manufacturing but could also put a financial squeeze on automakers that depend on global supply chains. “This will continue to spur growth,” Trump told reporters Wednesday. “We’ll effectively be charging a 25% tariff.” To underscore his seriousness about the tariffs directive he signed, Trump said, “This is permanent.” https://apnews.com/article/autos-tariffs-trump-tax-imports-ford-gm-e53823ef7bbb7b3c46d11eca90aaa638 -
U.S. Secretary of State Rubio has issued a statement that some Thai government officials, involved in the Uighyr relocation, are/have been/will be banned for travel to the U.S. Some countries have declared travel advisories to their citizens visiting the U.S. Thailand, AFAIK, has not. A Thai person - in this case a wife - should probably check with the MoFA to see of there are any issues. Wife should also check various Thai-centric forums for first-hand experiences. ANd you could check with the U.S. Embassy here. If there were denials of entry, or detention and deportation, (of Thais) I think we'd have heard about those? The situation is obviously fluid, and the current administration is quick to react to perceived slights and greivances, so one never knows how they might react.

Strange charge at tax office
bamnutsak replied to offset's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I wonder if other forms of proof of residence would be sufficient. TM.47? TM.30? Drivers License? Utility bills? Bank correspondence? I think Tax Stamps need to be affixed within 30 days of execution to "legalize" the document. The run of "no tax paid" continues. -

Correcting the Record about Social Security Office Closings Recent reports in the media that the Social Security Administration (SSA) is permanently closing local field offices are false. Since January 1, 2025, the agency has not permanently closed or announced the permanent closure of any local field office. https://blog.ssa.gov/correcting-the-record-about-social-security-office-closings/ -

Is there an election coming up (FL1, FL6, Wisconsin SC sure)? Is trump running for something? Does anyone really think these polls indicate/mean anything?
-
What a Goat Rodeo. Just admit you screwed up - Mike Waltz - maybe offer to resign, then trump can decide whether to accept the resignation. Have an investigation. Issue rules re: using personal devices, and non-secure third-party open source apps. Simple steps that a barely competent administration should be able to handle. I am curious about what other groups within the administration, are discussing on Signal. Bet more than a few are just as bad, maybe worse.
