Could Trump's plan fail in a spectacular fashion?
bamnutsak replied to spidermike007's topic in Political Soapbox
He should host a daily game show on Fox Business, where he has two spinning wheels, one with countries, one with a percentage. He could have Maria Bartoromo spin the wheels. And voila, Brazil gets a 20% blanket tariff. -

Could Trump's plan fail in a spectacular fashion?
bamnutsak replied to spidermike007's topic in Political Soapbox
your link...which indicates that trump "caved"? Trump reverses new tariffs threat on Canada after Ontario rescinds electricity charges President Donald Trump backed down from an extraordinary trade war escalation Tuesday that had threatened a massive surge in tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum and new tariffs on Canadian electricity. In turn, Ontario paused surcharges on electricity to US customers. After the back-and-forth tariff threats that sent markets sharply lower for a second day Tuesday, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Canada’s Minister of Finance Dominic LeBlanc and Ontario Premier Doug Ford said they would meet Thursday to renegotiate the free trade treaty known as the USMCA. Ontario agreed to suspend its 25% surcharge on electricity exports to Michigan, Minnesota and New York. President Donald Trump earlier on Tuesday threatened a 50% tariff on the country’s aluminum and steel, a sharp escalation in the budding trade war with Canada in retaliation for Ontario’s export surcharge. But Trump later signaled he would back down. https://edition.cnn.com/2025/03/11/business/tariffs-canada-trump/index.html -

Tiffany Flick, a former Social Security official, detailed what she sees as a “significant” risk of sensitive government data heading into the wrong hands under Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Flick, who worked at the Social Security Administration (SSA) for almost 30 years, outlined her concern in part of a federal lawsuit about the fraught takeover of the agency as DOGE officials seek to reduce federal spending. She became acting chief of staff to the SSA’s acting commissioner in January before retiring a month later as DOGE officials new to the agency took on greater and greater roles and influence, pushing out the previous leader of the administration. Her 13-page legal brief is the first in-depth public account from a government executive about how DOGE has gained access to sensitive information on its mission to decrease the workforce. Flick’s retelling was first reported by The Washington Post. https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/5186301-social-security-official-data-concerns/ The brief, worth a read... https://democracyforward.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/AFSCME-et-al-v-SSA-Flick-Decl.-3.7.25.pdf

TM6 and the May 1 Deadline: An In-Depth Analysis for Foreign Visitors
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
There have been some oblique references to tracking visitors, and/or having them update their location, from within the app, when they move around Thailand. from the OP: I think, if the RTP wants to find someone, they'd go to the TM30 system first. But, as was the case with the Erawan bombers, they simply stayed in accommodations where a TM30 was not filed, that failed. -

In that contentious cabinet meeting last week when Duffy squared off against musk, trump chimed in saying he wants MIT "geniuses" as air traffic controllers. -
TM6 and the May 1 Deadline: An In-Depth Analysis for Foreign Visitors
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Given the boatload of holidays in April, I can't see this silly system—they have the TM30 for tracking tourists—being implemented on 1 May 2025. I could see a submarine being delivered by then or the High-Speed Rail line being finished. -

Nobody will trust a US treaty again Pretty sure Native Americans already illustrated the fickleness of a treaty with the U.S. government. The U.S. government entered into roughly 374 treaties with Native American nations between 1772 and 1867, and many of these were not respected or were outright broken, with Native Americans and First Nations peoples still fighting for their treaty rights. Here's a more detailed breakdown: Number of Treaties: From 1772 to 1867, the U.S. government and Native American tribes signed and ratified approximately 374 treaties. Treaty Violations: Many of these treaties were not respected, and some were outright broken by the U.S. government.

Yes. Yes. https://th.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/90/Checklist-for-DS-82-Online-Payment-2.pdf All is explained here... https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-services/passports/instructions-for-ds-82-processing-by-mail-and-online-fee-payment-for-u-s-citizens-residing-in-thailand/ Step 7: Return envelope, pay Thailand Post Courier Pass Back envelope fee 100THB here. (If the page appears in Thai, you may use a translate function into English at the top right corner of the page.) Then, includes a payment confirmation email in your application package. An actual envelope will be delivered to U.S. Embassy in Bangkok and U.S. Consulate General in Chiang Mai for returning your document. The fee is non-refundable, and the mailing information cannot be amended after paid; ensure providing the applicant’s full name and accurate returning address on both shipping and billing address. The tracking number will be provided in a separate email from the vendor. You may trace your passport after the processing time has passed by using the tracking number here https://track.thailandpost.co.th/ NOTE: Prepaid envelope cannot be accepted when you are applying for a U.S. passport in Thailand. A Passport Card, for $3/year, renewal price, is a government-issued ID which is RealID compliant. It's been handy for me a few times. I'll stipulate that it is in no way a substitute for a Passport.

First off, thank you for sharing your experience, I did not know that Fidelity would/could send 2FA SMSes to our Thai phone numbers. You should be aware that with Fidelity you can accomplish 2FA via their app. I use this option most of the time, when logging in on a PC. Fidelity also supports third-party authenticators. GoogleVoice works fine for me with Fidelity, inbound calls to Fidelity, receiving calls from Fidelity, and receiving 2FA SMSes. Just an FYI, you would dial 011 66 85 555 5555, or from a mobile + 66 85 555 5555. Long press the "0" zero key for the "+"

U.S. Suspends Costly Deportation Flights Using Military Aircraft
bamnutsak replied to John Drake's topic in Political Soapbox
I think they've deported all the "criminals", so now they need to decide if they will arrest, detain, house in camps and physically move to another country undocumented persons who are not criminals. Crossing the border illegally is a civil offense, and these persons can be deported after judicial processes. Tom Homan is probably going to get axed.
