The MoT&S has been trying to get their grubby little hands on this 300 baht fee for a few years now. They want to collect and manage this revenue with little oversight. They do NOT want it to be collected as part of the 700 Baht TS fee, which could be increased to 1,000. With 25 million tourists this is a nice little 7.5 BILLION baht cash pile which can easily be stolen. Sometimes they say it's for unpaid medical bills often said to be in the several hundred million baht range. Sometimes they say it's for maintenance and upkeep, other times it's for the coral reefs. Collection is always the issue, airlines want no part of a new ticket line item. This kiosk idea seems like it would be an epic fail. Seems rather ghoulish to push this latest requirement while the cremation ashes of the deceased are still warm? But this Minister seems to be quite foolish and simple-minded.

I don't know? While the net result is the same I don't know if the RD will consider this remittable taxable "income", and that it must be declared. Would using a credit card for local expenses be considered "remitting income to Thailand"? Purchasing an airline ticket for travel back home (BKK-USA-BKK) means the ticket is issued in Thailand in THB. I guess there's a 20% tax (my potential bracket here) that will have to be paid to the RD? Oof.

PM Reassures Digital Wallet Project Will Be Implemented
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Well he did appoint himself as Minister of Finance, so that should tell you something about his seeking out professional advice. -
Understood. Assuming any/all remittances were subject to tax I would minimize those, and utilize ATM withdrawals and counter withdrawals for the bulk of my monthly expenses. Those would come at the daily Visa rate, and my bank reimburses for ATM fees (usually 150 THB at an AEON ATM). I would also go a bit heavy when the dollar is strong

But only if/when they are remitted from the U.S. to Thailand. I think. This is the understanding I am working under right now. I'm in the same boat: SocSec, one annuity paid in one lump each year on 1/1/nn. I transfer money each month, but am considering switching to the 800,000 method. Right now I'm more concerned with the possibility that banks start to withhold some percentage (20%? say for the 65,000 monthly qualifying transfers) tax, forwarding that to the RD, and then we have to file a return, hopefully claiming the bulk of that as a refund. And that Immigration will want to some piece of paper from the RD stating that we are in compliance with taxes owed/paid, before processing an extension of stay.

PM Reassures Digital Wallet Project Will Be Implemented
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
He just formed a committee this week. While I would have thought that he had some group working on this since the election (everyone knew PTP would lead), apparently he did not. So I think it's fair to give him some time to sort out the details and release the funds. The headwind on this one is growing though. It could lead to the end of his brief stint as PM, along with malfeasance charges in a year or two. Just sayin'. -
This is definitely the bulk of the Immigration officials involved in the Tu Hao case who were from Khon Kaen. Big Joke buried this mess with the NACC back in March. This sounds like some officers are trying to fight against the NACC recommending prosecution? At least three have the word general in their titles. Now the immigration offices where the alleged bribes were taken have been named for the first time. They are: Chiang Mai Nakhon Ratchasima Khon Kaen Sakhon Nakorn Chaiyaphum Kalasin Phrae Yasothon and Roi-Et. https://aseannow.com/topic/1287361-former-immigration-chief-big-joke-comes-full-circle-charges-against-107-allegedly-corrupt-immigration-officers-laid/ https://aseannow.com/topic/1288744-100000-pages-of-evidence-in-40-boxes-big-joke-prepares-cases-against-116-corrupt-immigration-men-offices-named/

Based on that Credit Advice Receipt It looks like SocSec gets converted to THB before arriving in Thailand, maybe by Citi in Europe? Then to Citi in THL ( I thought they sold their local ops?), then transferred via BAHTNET to Bangkok Bank? I think you'd need the CAR because this may not show in a passbook or statement as FTT? Hopefully banks won't be using that line "Other Charges" to withhold 20% Thai Tax. come 1 Jan 2024. ????

I think this is related to the Tua Hao case? And looks like an attempted "Clean up"? https://www.voanews.com/a/criminal-charges-expected-in-thailand-over-chinese-immigration/7007882.html#:~:text=More than 100 Thai immigration,to set up criminal businesses. Big Joke passed this one along to the NACC.

New TM30 Registration Web Site
bamnutsak replied to BKK57's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Can you share any detail here? Who are these "others"? Where did you hear about their experience? I did see another thread related to this potential linkage. I've been searching for answer to this question, that is Is everyone registered on the 'old' system required to file a TM30 on the NEW system? I have not found an answer, nor have I heard (from posts here and on FB) there is a linkage between an online TM47 and a new TM30. I registered on the new site, but have not refiled TM30s; I've the Excel sheet completed for all tenants, but have not uploaded it, yet. I suspect Immigration would prefer we file on the new system - I'm sure they have no plans to migrate records from the old system to the new one. It would be great if they informed us of any policy on this matter. There are one or two great threads here on the new TM30 site. https://aseannow.com/topic/1306628-tm30-new-website-address-for-filing-notifications-and-registration/ Basically register to use the site email, pw, new pw register the building blue book/house doc, owners thai id file for any occupants https://tm30.immigration.go.th/TM30/Foreigner/TM30EN/Home.html https://tm30.immigration.go.th/TM30/Foreigner/TM30EN/VDOGuide.html -
Open Sesame! Thai government to review operating hours
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Powerful and influential people must be "lobbying" the new government for these opening hour extensions. I would tie an increase in the base hourly wage paid to workers in this sector, and require 1.5x salary be paid for the extra opening hours. -
Thai PM vows enhanced security after deadly Siam Paragon shooting

Thailand’s inflation for September falls to 0.30%
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes, but... Cherry-picking of certain food items and implying that those represent a trend in inflation is, well, deceitful. Some of the items in the "basket" are currently being subsidized, at great cost. Electricity and diesel fuel are just two examples. https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/policies/40028904 And more price controls are in place this month. https://thethaiger.com/news/business/nationwide-price-cuts-on-150000-products-and-services-boost-uk-economy -
Three Held For Selling Pistol To Teen Suspect In Mall Shooting
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Well the authorities released this information (a modified gun) to the public, pretty early on if I recall correctly. I think that they thought this would mitigate the situation implying that "real" firearms are "controlled", which they are not of course. -
Interim House Speaker 'evicts' two senior Democrats from Capitol
bamnutsak replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Tradition, honor, decency went out the window with the ascension of trump. Obviously Mr. McCarthy could have done this as soon as he was voted Speaker, but he chose to honor tradition. I'd advise Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Hoyer to vacate their special offices quietly, and not make a big deal out of this. Just let people realize how petty Republicans have become. Shocking to think Patrick "short-stack" McHenry is third in line to POTUS. Would have been awesome had the gavel broken on impact and hit him in the face. What doofus. Clearly he's compensating. -
Three Held For Selling Pistol To Teen Suspect In Mall Shooting
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
One report (BP) says that he fired forty rounds with eleven hitting the deceased and wounded. That same story talks about his use of an Army-run (Territorial Defense Command/Royal Thai Army) shooting range, where he was "supervised" by (presumably) RTA personnel. Not sure if he rented firearms there, or used his modded weapons. -
Brilliant conclusion. Unless it's Debt Forgiveness, it's useless. A debt moratorium is a predatory method a loan shark would use. But rice subsidies are a no-no, right? Meanwhile the government is burning serious coin on diesel fuel subsidies, electricity subsidies, fixing prices on some thousands of items. The Diesel fuel subsidy is costing 14 BILLION baht per month alone. Hopefully the self-appointed Minister of Finance has some tricks up his 42XL sleeves.

5 Senior Police Transferred After Gambling Raid

What cash, responded the RTP. The RTP seems to be constantly in motion, transferred from one station to another, leaving a trail of slime.
