Pol. Col. Wachira Yaothaisong, Superintendent of Highway Police Division 2, used a gun to shoot himself on Monday inside a house in the Khu Khot area of Pathum Thani Province, whose condition is currently unknown. The cause is not yet known for certain, but initially it was thought to be from stress after being accused of calling Pol.Lt.Col. Sivakorn Saibua, a 32-year-old lieutenant of the highway patrol, and ordering him to go to the sub-district headman's house in Nakhon Pathom Province on September 6. The gunman, who was close to the sub-district headman, shot and killed Pol.Lt.Col. Sivakorn that night. Khaosod English Facebook This one will last a few weeks I think, but it does highlight the vast spread of corruption at the provincial level. Interesting that the press refers to them as "Influential People".

bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Isaan News

"So far..." Yes, it's been a brilliant six days since he was sworn into office last Tuesday. Based on video and news reports he doesn't seem very open-minded (other than telling anyone exactly what they want to hear), and he is far from "approachable", again based on reports and video. "Intelligent"? I'll take your word on that one. In just six days he's already walked back two MAJOR campaign promises: 10,000 Baht Digital Wallet, which he banished to the back seat of a Thai TAxi-cab hoping the driver doesn't return it, and the 20 baht electric train fare. So maybe not so "fine"?

I shall, once they explode and make the news. Obviously this latest submarine engine fiasco has been brewing for some time, but only became an issue this week when the new government was saddle with it. Next may be they requirement for the government to bail out the Village Fund and many of the Savings Cooperatives. Just watch Srettha scurry from one crisis to another and you'll see the explosions. IMO MFP was lucky to have been denied the opportunity to lead this government given the shambles it was left in.

Given the effort various senior government officials are putting in to keeping this story somewhat contained, some suspect this may lead to one of the bigger corruption schemes ever in Thailand. What started as personal feud, expanded to encompass the truck sticker scheme, which in turn has unveiled epic levels of corruption in many provinces surrounding governors and the letting of construction contracts, which have been pilfered at historic rates.

The Prayuth regime, after eight years of rule pillaging the country's coffers, have left this government with nothing but problems, many of which are hidden. The corruption they've allowed to grow will make solving any problem much more challenging. Unexploded mines everywhere. Can't see Srettha lasting what, six months?

Is Thailand’s education system safe in the hands of Bhumjaithai Party?
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It should also be noted that the new Education Minister was just this week implicated, with fourteen others, in the Boss/Red Bull heir hit and run cover up.- 47 replies

Is Thailand’s education system safe in the hands of Bhumjaithai Party?
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Check his name. Part of the Chidchob clan. They don't have to pay for anything. The end result is exactly what the powers that be want. An uneducated populace who will not ask questions.- 47 replies

90 Days by Post. EMS both ways?
bamnutsak replied to Cuchulainn's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
You can get a 32 baht EMS return sticker for your return envelope at the post office then seal that into your mail-in package. Or affix at least 32 baht in stamps and write EMS on the envelope. If you end up having to go make an appointment. On Thursday, with one it took ~ two minutes. Appointments are always available even the day before. Go to the front counter A4, then desk B66. -
Local officials in Thailand to be vetted before appointment
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Even if they are "clean", and that's highly unlikely as people obtain these "appointments" through a network of family, nepotism and corruption, they are quickly corrupted by the local mafia. Anutin should just admit that corruption is pervasive and that nothing can really be done about it as it is part of the Thai national psyche. I think Anupong was a hands-off Minister of the Interior for the past nine years, a payoff for leading the 2006 coup, so Anutin has inherited a morass of out-of-control corruption. Clean up on aisle three. -
Given the swift response to this incident my guess is that there is a lot more to it. It sounds like the Royal Thai Police, in some provinces, are merely enforcers for the local mafia. And that provincial governors, in some cases, may have succumbed to the influence of the Mafia.

Foreigners Laud Free Thai Visa Policy for Chinese tourists
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
So this is a Tourist Visa Exemption? Just China? Or is India included? What is the stay length? 15 days? 30 days? Can these be extended in country? Does this program expire after some number of months or years? -
For one single drunken disagreement, resulting in two deaths, about a police promotion for a cousin this one seems to have a lot more to it based on the responses by various individuals, including Anutin. He may be hoping to keep a lid on a potentially broader scheme involving provincial police "management styles"? As Minster of the Interior he appoints provincial governors. Strange that, for a so called democracy, the people to not get to elect provincial governors. The belief is that the people can not be trusted to select leaders, and that only the wise men in Bangkok can do this.
