Foreign Credit Card % fee
bamnutsak replied to zorrow's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
It is unclear what this particular dealer meant when they said they charge 3% for processing the credit card charge, or 4% for a foreign-issued card? Some merchants here do charge extra for processing credit card charges as they do not have any processing agreements in place. And your credit card provider may also charge an extra percentage, often 3%, for foreign transactions. Checks the terms on your card. I suspect that most motorbikes are financed, so in essence the lender pays the dealer in cash (direct bank transfer). For those that can afford it, they pay in cash or direct bank transfer. -
Every bank's app can be slightly different so it would help if you identified a specific bank(s). Generally speaking, Yes. If only to register the device (IMEI) with the Bank's app. Some banks here do NOT allow registration of the App over Wifi, although after registration the app can be used over mobile data or WiFi. Generally speaking you would need to register that phone number with the bank, often in person. Subsequent two factor authorization (2FA) may be accomplished via an SMS OTP code transmitted to that number, or by local (app) authorization (fingerprint). Most bank apps here now only allow the registration of one single device (BBL used to allow multiple devices). Depends on the Bank/app. But I answered this in my post above.

How do I receive SMS text messages in Skype? You can receive SMS text messages in Skype if you have a Skype Number. Currently, only US Skype Numbers can receive SMS messages*. Two-way SMS text messaging is not supported in Skype on Android 4.0.4 - 5.1. * Note: You can receive SMS messages on your US Skype Number from US and Canadian mobile numbers. However, SMS messages sent from services such as identity verification are not supported on US Skype Numbers. https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA34884/how-do-i-receive-sms-text-messages-in-skype Some report issues receiving Short Code SMS, which is what many entities use for OTP verification.

Thai government pledges better conditions for motorcycle taxi drivers

Evidently some said Srettha came across as "Bossy" and has "Anger Management issues" during this meeting. He's already made an apology for his behavior. I'm not sure he's naturally comfortable with anyone below his station? -
You're talking about "appointments"? Right? They can only be booked up to 30 days out. For some activity there are no open slots on any given day. Pick a day/date 30 days out, wake up up at 00:01 and snag a slot. I do not believe you can book an appointment for a category/activity other than the one you hope to accomplish. FWIW, there are tons of 90-Day Slots available. I booked one two days out, and full availability. They do have a lot of slots for this. And maybe folks don't know you can book an appointment for the 90-Day report? Just get to CW early on Friday and get one of the first few tickets. I have no idea what that time might be? 06:00? 06:30?

PTP leader, Dr. Cholnan Srikaew (who resigned from party leadership, but not the cabinet, given his party joined with PPP an UTN) is the new Minister of Public health, and while some in PTP are very anti-Cannabis, he appears at least interested in Medical cannabis use. He is a physician. Some slight tilt towards re-criminalization perhaps, but maybe only from 5% to 15% chance? I still think everyone will be happy with the Cannabis Control Act, although some odd rules/laws might come out of the resulting Cannabis Control Board. Not unlike the Alcohol Control Board and their strange rules.

I'm surprised this PR option, and full citizenship, haven't been compromised. Actually, the gangster Tu Hao (Thai "name": Chaiyanat Kornchayanant) was supposedly a Thai citizen, somehow? https://www.thaipbsworld.com/pm-hits-back-over-chinese-businessmans-thai-citizenship/ -

The less formal banking institutions here, Cooperatives and Village Funds, seem like dumpsters about to catch fire. Embezzlement, Debt Relief, and NPLs, being the primary problems festering. -

It will take you 5 - 10 minutes to walk down/up Soi 4 (to Soi 6), to get a feel for the live music scene. There are walking videos on Youtube, news ones posted almost daily. Hillary 2, and Hillary 1 had live cover bands (Thai back-up, Singers from the Philippines usually) on Friday night 1 Sep.

Back when I used to mail in 90 day reports I'd get an EMS sticker of the PO Counter, 32 baht I think, and the tracking number is on the receipt. Apply that to the return addressed envelope, then seal that in your outgoing envelope. Then purchase an EMS for that outgoing envelope. Or I might affix at least 32 baht in stamps. then write "EMS" on the return envelope.

Thaksin submits application for royal clemency

Simply amazing how quickly the judicial system can "work" when required. This one will leave a stench not easily eliminated. -
Wow! Tackling the big issues right out of the box. Let me guess, the MP wanted the government to subsidize shrimp farmers? Low prices benefit consumers, and potentially prevent over-farming/fishing. I know nothing about shrimp farming, but I'm guessing it's not that great for the environment? I understand Thailand exports a lot of shrimp, but Parliament doesn't have much control on global pricing/demand. Again, this is pure incompetence on the part of the Speaker. He could call for a roll call voice-vote on "present". IMO, they should halt all Parliamentary business until the new government if officially installed. Dumpster fires are more productive than this edition of Thai Parliament.

Thaksin submits application for royal clemency
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
First off, in Thailand rules/laws are merely guidelines, open for interpretation, and capricious application based on the "defendant's status. The King has absolute power as the Head of State and the Head of the Military (per the current Constitution), and is not limited by rules. precedents or laws. Thaksin, and his supporters, will lobby the Palace (actually this is not necessary as the process has already been agreed upon) and the public by saying that Thaksin's ~ 16 years in exile serve as the bulk of his "Served Sentence". Thaksin has a large debt to repay the olde-guard now, so when they say "jump", he'll jump. -
House fiasco opens early rift between government and opposition
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This lunacy started with the selection of an incompetent Speaker, who appears to lack a basic understanding of Parliamentary procedures. And it's gone downhill from there. He's lost control, not that he ever had it. He must resign ASAP. Simply amazing that the ruling coalition has any excuse for this, other than ignorance, and disrespect for the institution and the people. Criticizing MFP for wanting to adhere to the rules is just Classic Thai. Shut up, and do your job. What a bunch of fools, I'm surprised they even found their way to right building. -

Reflects poorly on the moral authority in Thailand... Hold a 15 year old woman for 50 days without bail for peaceful protest, on a spurious 112 charge. Spring convicted seditionists (Suthep Gang) on bail after 30 hours in jail. Pardon Thaksin, who we've been told since 2006, is criminal who was so bad he had to deposed. Does this sort of erratic behavior make sense to anyone? How can it be defended? -

I use PNR, Record Locator, Booking Reference Number, Reservation Code interchangeably, perhaps I'm lazy, inconsistent and/or misinformed. https://www.altexsoft.com/blog/pnr-explained/ To me it is a six character identifier (along with the passenger's name) that can represent everything from a booking to a ticketed reservation. A valid booking from a travel agent or onwardticket has a valid Record Locator, which will be legal and acceptable to check-in agents, who might be prompted by Timatic or internal systems, for proof of onward travel.
