That is a pity, especially for those passengers who have started to rely on the service.

Whilst the trains are proven in service elsewhere, this is the first time a Thai company has constructed a monorail guideway system.

will be interesting to see what the actual problem is and whether it affects the Pink Line, using the same rolling stock/guideway system as well.

conductor rail falls off, pink line had the same issue already last December, this time it didn't looks as catastrophic as it was the inside rail that broke off, and got caught in the walkway between the concrete guideways (rails) whereas the outside one broke off and fell to the street

clearly there are issue with the material of mounting hardware or how they're attached to the concrete, last time it happened they said they had 'inspected' the tracks but that it happened again means they'll need to replace whatever it is that fails for the whole length of the tracks of both lines

  2. I've seen case where the business call for Bangkok Hospital ambulance when their customers needed one in their shop, only once they start to realize which hospital they're going to that they jumped out of the ambulance and ran off

Thai gold is lower purity than 99.5% bullion.

While you can sell your gold, it will be at a loss. Shops will only give you the same price as Thai gold, banks will want commissions.

Better to sell bullion in your home country.

If the shop give you spot price for Thai gold (96.5%/23K) when selling 99.99% 24K gold walk away, it's not like they don't know what they are and will happily sell 24k gold for a premium

calculating what price should be paid over the spot price will seem difficult, if all you know is the spot price for Thai gold per baht weight and the 24k bullion you have is in grams but the Thai gold traders association that set the price each day actually has a reference price for 99.99gold per gram https://www.goldtraders.or.th/DailyPrices.aspx

  4. bars are difficult to smuggle in unnoticed, they x-ray bags on arrivals sometime, if they noticed, you'll be watched after baggage claim and ask to open your luggage if you don't go through the 'something to declare' exit

coins however, mixed in with regular coins in your pocket or purse... how could they tell?

Selling to gold shops is no problem, they'll happily molten them down to use in their jewelry

there are reporting requirements the gold shop has to comply for money laundering law, they'll need ID and has to report if the transaction is over certain threshold, 2 million baht if dealing in cash, transfer of sales to bank accounts are exempt from reporting rule as the banks will be the ones doing the reporting and they already have your details

If they were smart they would have just kept their mouths shut and kept a low profile. They do have squatters rights here so you need to keep an eye on your property and if you see anything suspicious then let it be known. I believe it’s occupying for 10 years, so it’s a long time, but be aware it can happen.

they lost the right of "peaceful, continued, unchallenged" the moment they hightailed out of the house the first time the real owner showed up

doubling down and going back in

There has aways been extended water throwing in the Pattaya area......not sure I recall any days it was only the 19th. It would start on the official holidays for Songkran and usually consist of drunk gangs of childish farangs at particular bars, having fun tinged with malicious intent. I do recall things used to die down at sunset back then, so popping back for a change of clothes was of some benefit......

That would be soi 7 or 8 bars, nobody would set up water buckets in front of the shops in most other area, South Pattaya and walking street would still be dry, coming from the dark side you could do yours shopping at Carrefour then or Tesco in North Pattaya without being bothered

  7. I miss the days where Pattaya only did the mad Songkran on the 19th only, sure it gets wilder than other places but it's only 1 day you can plan for,

I'm sure the Muslim majority place like 3 Provinces down south frown against this sort of thing so you'll be safe there

Don't think the home owner was a foreigner.

Best thing is to name and shame the crooked developper all over foreign social media from abroad of course and in the newspapers in the hometowns of the dishonest developpers.

There is no developer in this case, the neighbor tried to claim empty house next door through adverse possession, got found out and with typical Thai media circus backdown

  9. evaporative air cooler can work in air-conditioned room and does lower temperature as the initial humidity will be quire low in the room, but does it make the air conditioner works harder due to the increase in moisture in the room?

While you might be able to feel 'cooler' I suspect the increased load from the air-con needing to remove the extra humidity will cost more in electricity than if you were to set the temperature lower at the air-con itself.

Some normal fans to increase the wind-chill effect on the skin is probably the only assistance you can have with air conditioner

  10. There is no small claims court in Thailand, you just go to the lowest (district) court which could be costly in money ant time

your first port of call is the office of insurance commission, they have the power of the law in this matter and can force arbitration or judgement in this matter, o the sales rep's detail is not required but can be named in your complaint against the company

The Mk 2.5 Focus (pre 2011) has the normal 4 speed auto box and is one of the best driving cars ever made and can be found for about 120k.

For around 150-200K, The Powershift in the Diesel version around 2010s isn't plagued with the same problems as those in Petrol too, decent power and economical considering the price of Diesel here

earlier pre-facelift the diesel came with manual but rare as a hen's teeth

  12. Most of the recent truck based models like the trailblazer use most of the parts common with Isuzu, so should be of no issue

Earlier Daewoo-based sedan models like Optra or Cruze also has plenty of parts and 3rd party parts in the market

Only problem seem to be the latest model Captiva 2019 that was introduced as soon as they announce the exit from market, these were heavily discounted in a firesale, but being based on MG/Chinese Baojun; parts from the usual channels are hard to come by but some manage to order them from China via AliExpress of even get them through the MG dealer in Thailand

  13. The fiesta, apart form the gearbox issue, where the solution is to have the gearbox replaced every 100,000km or so... very economical out of warranty

recently due to age they seem to have developed spontaneous combustion issue from the radiator fan

Focus's gearbox is quite fixable now compared to the fiesta's but there aren't that many in the market

but unless you know your way around cars and are particular fond of Ford, why bother where similar vintage Toyotas are everywhere and any somchais knows how to fix

Lead-acid batteries are used in vehicles. On average, they weigh 17 kg.

If you have taken apart cheap chinese stuff like flashlights or mozzie zapper you'd know there are small 4v lead-acid battery with acid fill port even, often when the batteries 'dies' you could resurrect them by filling it with distilled water just like car battery, or even replace them, replacement are available online.

I'm sure they're made of the best quality chinese manufacturing and does not leak at all and won't burst open when taken into lower pressured atmosphere like say an airplane's cabin mid flight

better ones with 3.7v Lithium battery are available now but is more expensive, if you grab them off the market stall would you know?
