I was going to go to the Centre today to get my name linked up to my account, but then thought about it for a minute and said, you know what, it isn't illegal to not have your name linked up to your mobile number as far as I recall, so why provide governments with more information to hang yourself.

I will sit on the fence until I receive the notification and then comply, no doubt that is going to take a while.

It's not about linking, the mobile phone companies already has your name, the forced mandatory ID of sim card activation years back during car bomb panic

try opening a new number and see how far you get without ID

Oh gawd.  Another thing to worry about but should not 'in theory' affect me as don't use mobile banking apps but I do use online internet banking via my PC & Laptop and the mobile is just used to receive OTP passwords which I 'assume' are unaffected?   Would be grateful if someone can advise me if they are they are impacted in this respect.  Cheers.

    Which bank are you with?
Most Thai banks phased out internet banking via the browser in preference of mobile banking via the apps because the need for biometric for some time now

If they still have internet banking on the computer, that shouldn't be affected

  3. thai car insurance is usually attached to the car, not the driver,

so if you have your own car and that has 1st class insurance, its for that car and unless you put down yourself as the sole named driver, anyone driving it is insured providing they have valid license, not drunk

most big rental companies will have collision damage waiver insurance you have to pay extra for when renting

mom and pop rental outfits will use the car's 1st class insurance, these can be a gray area as the conditions of most 1st class insurance is not for commercial use, if you got into accident the rental outfit would ensure that the insurance agent not look too closely at your relationship with the ultimate owner of the vehicle and how you come to be operating the vehicle

Total stupidity. Time this nonsense was legally stopped. Hopefully just for show, and the money and gold will be given back to the newly weds.  Close on 4.5 million baht, which will give them a good step on the housing ladder.

Decent families do give the dowry to the couple to start out their life together

only parents form certain region/class expect payday from the wedding

  5. it's been reported in Thai news and social media of 'bill surprise' this month too

I have 2 houses, one where we don't use the aircon ever, only water pumps and fridges and the bill's been in line with before

while the heat during the day is only a few degrees above average, it's the heat and humidity at night that is unusual you might not notice if you have the aircon on at the same time but they're definitely doing more work to keep you cool

I can't help you with how to ship...

BUT... there is a reason why this is not a common process - cars in Europe are cheaper than they are in Thailand.

Thus, unless there is a very specific reason why a very specific car is to be shipped - with shipping costs etc its very likely to be more costly than it would be to simply sell the vehicle here and then purchase the same vehicle in Europe.

Where this might not hold so true would be for older vehicles that have been 'restored' with cheaper labour here...

i.e. old VW Beetles and Camper Vans etc and some other classics.

About 10-15 years ago it used to be cheaper to get pickup trucks, Toyotas in Mitsubishi in Thailand and ship to Europe, some dedicated business putting in aftermarket heaters or even replacing thai model radiators for one with heater cores

For classic cars, since banning any 'new' importation of classic, price in Thailand has gone through the roof, but there's the occasional rare cars like gullwing SLs to Ferrari F40s being shipped out

Curios?… What monthly plan do you have?… Do you need to buy a specific plan with this router or can you buy a separate AIS one year prepaid sim on say Lazada and use it in this router?…

years ago It came with monthly plan of 'unlimited' data I think of around 7-8000 baht a month and discount on the cost of router

the price in the link is without contract I think, so you can use any yearly sim, it's not even locked to AIS, I did use True SIM in it as well

but if you'll be using those sim it might be cheaper to go with 4g router

  8. does it need to be mobile? ie has batteries

I know 5g wired router (needs to plug in to wall socket) are available from the operator like AIS and True for a discount if you take the sim/contract

haven't seen 5g 'pocket hotspot' from the operators yet, only 4g

Banana and Jib has 5g hotspot them in their online store, the random branch location probably won't have it in stock but might be able to order one in

On another note and related to businesses that refuse cash, s it even legal to refuse legal tender? If so, the world has turned upside down. Here's a thousand baht note. Cannot accept. Madness.

Legal tender just means that cash must be accepted for debt, if both the buyer and seller agree to pay using whatever that's not cash that's okay.

If you go to a Starbuck that don't accept cash, they just refused to serve you... no debt incurred

if you went to a restaurant, start ordering and they served you and you discover later that they don't accept cash, that's not legal as now you have a debt to them,

What would an employee or volunteer of the Poh Teck Tung Foundation or the Sawang Boriboon Foundation do in in an aeroplane that did an emergency landing at BKK (Suvarnabhumi airport)? This was not a road traffic accident.

The initial external shots seem to show ambulance from BDMS (Bangkok Hospital) which has clinic at the airport

They wouldn't open the airside gate to volunteer service who's not trained on how to drive on the tarmac and has appropriate radio

but making passengers with minor cuts walk on their own on the jetway or even use the airport transfer bus is probably not a good look or experience after a very traumatic experience

understandable that with mass casualty event, the need for ambulance transport to the hospital might overwhelm the local ambulance

Ruamkatanyu headquater is just south of the airport

Sawang Boriboon is a Pattaya only foundation, there are other Sawang- foundations in other provinces but not in Pattaya

the big volunteer foundations in Bangkok are Poh Tek Tung and Ruamkatanyu

  11. TOU (Time or Use) or off-peak rates meter come with more expensive rate for peak hours (daytime) use

normally they wouldn't let you have normal meter and TOU meter so you could enjoy normal(non-tou) daytime rate with the 'off peak' rate at night from the TOU meter which would defeat the purpose of having peak rate

except for EV charging, PEA allows second meter to be TOU rate while keeping the house supply on the normal rate, MEA (Bangkok area) doesn't allow this, if you get a 2nd meter for the EV and switches to TOU rate, your main meter has to switch to TOU rate as well

If you live in PEA area, once you got the 2nd meter on TOU rate, it's a grey area if you want to plug in other things or wire the house using switchover switch

I am a teacher but never speak Thai in class, for obvious reasons.

As a language teacher, I know how to learn a language.

Actually, the network I developed by speaking Thai helped me immensely in my career, and I wouldn't have been able to get citizenship if I hadn't been able to speak Thai; I needed the full 15 points to get the 50 required.

If you're going go be living here for life, obviously Thai will help you. It is a challenge but good luck.

While you shouldn't need to speak Thai to students, having some understanding of Thai helps when you interact with other member of staff, you will miss out on a lot of information or get delayed information only when someone decide to come and translate for you

This would applies in any work environment too, only a few non-multinationals big Thai companies have meetings and memos in English
