  1. Phuket 35 years ago , I fell in love with the people and the island. Boracay, the best beaches , sand like flour , also 30 yrs back. Being one of the first tourists arriving in Burma, Bagan , the Schwedagon, and the lovely people. Jungle trekking in Borneo and staying in the remote village long houses. Machu Pichu lately, Titicaca, Borobudur, climbing to the top and a magnificent view, colourful Bali and all it’s  mysterious customs, I could go on and on, there’s so many beautiful places in the world, in Europe too. My heads full of memories.

  2. Sukhothai historical park and kanchanaburi, bridge, town, Jeath museum and the rail track. Sukhothai parc is wonderful, take a bike and  cycle round. Kanchanaburi , a walk down the memory lane of war and the suffering those poor men went through . A visit to the cemetery in town too. Great little inexpensive hotels and super restaurants. Lovely people in both places. I liked Buriram too, tho a bit quiet, lovely temple on the hill Prasit Phanom Rong.

  3. Rubbish, lots of people pay with 500 notes. All the high end shops   Restaurants and hotels, jewellers, all take them. If you have a good meal for 4 and a bottle of wine or two, it’s easily 500€ in Europe ! The notes have to be reasonably clean. Easily changed in Thailand’s too. It’s legal money, why shouldn’t someone / buisness accept these notes ?

Even if they stop printing them or ease the bills out of circulation, there will be a warning and they will still exchange them in the banks for a certain amount of time.

  4. Everyone living or holidaying in Jomtien ( and pattaya) know that the water is filthy, now, and always has been . Sometimes the water is worse, and actually smells, one look years back and Ive never ever even paddled in it. I have mentioned before on here that people living in View Talay filmed the water on different mornings, and you can clearly see a river of black flowing into the sea.Disgusting. The authorities have never done anything, and never will, though I suspect that it’s too late anyway ! While  I’m at it, have a look at second road , Jomtien, it’s one rubbish tip from one end to the other and is used as public toilets for the thousands of buses that stop there . Health hazard signs should be put up on the beaches and some roads.

  5. Long time back in Phuket I rented a small Thai house through the winter. It was very basic, but with a plot of ground in front, and at the back, some coconut trees, and a lot of rubbish. I cleaned it all up, put some plants around the front, used empty coconuts to plant and hang, it all looked very nice. A quick sweep in the morning and i was done. The neighbours looked on at first, then did their own sweeping, the kids brought me plants from the forest behind. It’s just not in a Thais nature to clean up , some of my lovely friends have great houses with just an unorderly mess inside, boxes and piles of stuff all over the place. Each to hi so own I suppose, but when they see foreigners tidying up the place, it does set them thinking. Just like children , set an example.
