  1. No, the inheritance is in Thailand.
  2. What an absolutely stupid comment !
  3. Phuket was certainly a lovely island. The beaches are still some of the best compared to the ugly coast sand and water of Hua Hin area and Pattaya . The hills around and the views are scenic. So is the countryside for those that dare leave the towns and beaches .It is the people who ruined Phuket. From the local authorities that don’t give a damn about the failed infrastructure, to the local mayors who just think about their pockets, and last but not least, the rif raf that immigration is welcoming onto the island. Crime is rife, the traffic and noise unbearable, and now all the Russians buying up the island and pushing prices up through the roof.

The buses keeping their engines running for 2 hours while the tourists go shopping/ food. Alongside the night market on Jomtien beach road it’s pure hell, stinks the whole area out. They should be heavily fined for pollution. Wishful thinking.
  5. Depends how much money you have ! I know most of our South of France second home owners live in the UK. Must say the UK weather is awful.
  6. Why do you think it’s only Britain that is difficult ? Most of the main Eu countries have stringent visa rules ! Usually taking a few years and then you risk being rejected. I suppose lots of people wanting a UK visa is because of the lesser language barriers.
  7. Alleged , Hearsay, rumors, gossip. Funny we are not hearing anymore about the online Gambling story ? Where is the proof Surachate was part of it. As for the party/ karaoke, there were a lot of well known Bangkok personalities there including RTP and lawyers. Everyone participating were invited months in advance and the party well publicized. Lots of false info around...
  8. Not at all ! So far there have been only accusations against Surachate. It will take real proof for myself and many others to believe otherwise. He has certainly knowledge and proof of a lot of things concerning the RTP and government. I’m quite sure that this proof is in safe hands probably outside Thailand. One thing he is not, and that’s stupid .

Looks like they’re getting rid of the road side parking. Hope they leave the trees.

How about the drain near Royal Garden Plaza ( 2nd rd) in front of the big dirty Chinese restaurant selling roast ducks on the corner ! I give that one top marks, I hate to think what’s down there.

They’ve been doing that since I remember, 1984 , I thought it was to stop the rats popping out !
  12. To me, sounds like she was drunk. Went downstairs ask / check the husband’s whereabouts/ car. Maybe the security man doesn’t understand. She gets annoyed and there it all goes downhill. .Looks like a very high standing building. Seems to me that the CCTV tells all . I hope the guy doesn’t get into trouble.
  13. Agree, I’ve never had a problem in over 30 years. One tourist visa 60 days + 30 days extension. Then I go on holidays for a week or more to a neighboring country, do another 60 day visa +30 days extension. I stay through the European winter months, then home to S of France for the other 6/7 months. All totally legal.
  14. Many Thai girls get married at that age. A bit less in today’s world.
  15. So, charge 300 baht to pay for the lack of infrastructure and the monstrous queues at Thai airports . That’s charging the tourists for the government’s mistakes ( thieving). Thailand is a mess .
  16. Just tell him to go to the main office of TT exchange on second road , right side going after school/Wat/ baht bus stop. Go inside , and he can rent a safe , minimum one month but it’s cheap enough. It’s a proper bank safe with individual boxes. There’s one in Jomtien too near the Hemingway pub.,
  17. Yes, think you’re right , better to try the international school in Bangkok first to see how they manage. Just imagine taking them abroad only to find out they are a bit disadvantaged ? The whole procedure would be a mess and not a good experience for the kids.
  18. True, I’ve noticed lots with bad acne. Maybe food related or the terrible creams/ whitening they use on their face.
  19. This is what I understood. So the Aussie defrauded her of that much money, she followed him to Thailand to try and save the money. ( forgot to do a TM 30 totally plausible) The Aussie, made up the story of her wanting to kidnap the child to get away with not returning the money . Nothing I have read on the ladies profile hints to her being some sort of crazed kidnapper. There again………..
  20. I remember my father always leaving a tip in restaurants when I was young.( 40 ++ years ago. ) I asked once why, and he said because they work damned hard with a smile. Which they do, like my father I always tip, yes taxis too if they’re on time and drive safe. Otherwise my mum always had a Christmas envelope for the milkman, coalman, etc.
  21. Britain, like Germany , are kings of the package tour. Turkey apparently is dead cheap, has nice beaches etc. Spain, always a winner, some gorgeous places, not everyone goes to Benidorm. Lovely people and also cheap, easy to get to, loads of daily flights and low cost easyjet. South of France is doing well, Monaco is full to the rafters , great weather mostly, easy to get to. Full of Brits too. Most places in Italy you have to book far in advance, Greece, beautiful , Portugal , Morocco , no lacking in choice and prices. We also have a winter season which brings in a lot of big money, Italy, Switzerland and Austria, France. Taking into account the price of flights, Thailand isn’t that attractive anymore, the authenticity had all but disappeared, the Thais “ just don’t care” as a friend said to me , customer service is not up to standard. Vietnam seems very popular on the adverts / TV I see, and the company that does the Mekong boat cruises, Laos, Cambodia needs booking a year in advance . Burma was very popular until the coup. What Thailand is missing is the new expats, and repeat guests. Being a snowbird myself, the regulars staying through the European winters have greatly diminished! These two categories are usually over 50 and have much bigger spending budgets. I don’t see many Chinese or Russians in the restaurants I eat at daily, I suppose the Chinese must be at their buffets and the Russians cooking cabbage at home with Babushka.

So who would you vote for to take Trinks place ( if there was one !) on the new ASEAN Now ??? Candidates for the post ?
  23. I for one believe in the preservation of these old buildings. The situation alone is probably worth the money in today’s world. I love visiting these beautiful houses , there are still quite a few around, Phuket, Hua Hin. Singapore, Penang, Malacca, Tokyo and Kyoto have some of the most beautiful, love them.Personally, I could live in one easily. Jim Thomsons is a dream.
  24. Whatever the story is, those photos are very strange !! Is that a woman with a headscarf and cheap plastic slip ons ??
