Thailand fully reopens from 1 October 2022
geisha replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News Headlines
True, but if unfortunately someone near you sneezed a Covid sneeze right in your masked face then maybe a mask helps ? I’ve always hated those people who cough and sneeze without trying to avoid other people , use your elbow if you don’t have a tissue . Just as those that spit in public ! Yuck ! -
Thailand fully reopens from 1 October 2022

The biggest threat to long haul tourism now is Putin ! Countries economies all over the world are suffering. The EU, US, UK, are having huge problems because of this maniac. While the summer season has been fantastic all over the EU ( better than pre Covid) the economic future is looking bleak. I’m quite sure everyone who reads the news is aware. In EU flights are full all over October , especially with its school half terms hols. I tried flights to UK to visit family, either full or astronomical prices, then I tried Rome and Venice, same thing. People are just staying close to home and have booked in advance. Less expensive, easier, and uncomplicated holidays are the thing now. I doubt very much that international tourists to Thailand will be coming in their masses until the Russia Ukraine tragic problem is solved. -
Drug stores now required to always have a pharmacist on duty
geisha replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News Headlines
Up until a few months ago the beach area Boots in phuket had their med counter closed completely and only sold non meds. I’ve always found a pharmacist in Boots Pattaya/Bangkok and phuket’ town before, and if there isn’t one on duty they pull a blind down over the products. Last time in Jomtien a kid of about 14 served me !!! -

My ideas of course. Why, if sitting in relative safety of a coffee shop with people around did this happen? Did they agree to meet there to make a deal on bitcoins and they got scammed ? If they were totally innocent , wouldn’t they get to the police asap ? We’re the couple being blackmailed ? Too many dark areas around this story. Also, maybe they asked for police protection and there has been a misunderstanding in language ? As for Russian mafia, from what I’ve heard over the years and some pretty obvious evidence ( bars and clubs with Russian girls ) I’ve asked a neighbor years back in Phuket how those girls could work nights openly , and he who spent lots of time in bars said they were Russian mafia owned. Ive also wondered about all the Russian girls in the Pattaya malls with advertising for condos. So those criminals are still there ?

Apply for the 60:day tourist visa. Or, no visa, come in Visa Exempt 45 days, which you extend at your local immigration for 30:days = 75 days. Book an onward flight within the 45 days to avoid questions from your airline on your departure from UK. Immigration never looks . Completely legal. Saves all the hassle with visas. All you need will be vaccination proof or a lab test before leaving. Dont forget you need a visa and vaccin proof for Vietnam , the visa you can apply for online.

Suggestions / Advice for Long Stay
geisha replied to WayneFarrell's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
As long as you fly back into Thailand with a visa 60 days, I doubt you’d have a problem I’ve done this in the past a few times. I often took a 3/4 week trip away from Thailand visiting friends in Bali/ Cambodia and Vietnam. -
Before you leave home, just buy the cheapest ticket you can find out of Thailand one way, a Bangkok Phnom Pen for example. Show it when asked by your airline . Then don’t use it. There is also a website selling onward tickets. ( throw away) check that out. No problem at all.

Extension of stay after a few days on Visa Exempt
geisha replied to bbi1's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yes that’s right. I do it all the time, check in, passport and I ask for a screenshot of tm30 for immigration. They’ve always given it to me. Print it and keep for when you ask for the extension one week before the stamp date. ( if they won’t give it to you change hôtel) -
You’re getting on my nerves now. Read the story properly. Mrs Suwan was talking about the tourist who was quarreling with the motor bike taxi., not Mr Tony. » However, the tourist punched Mr Tony in the face for his intervention and walked away. The tourist also seemed heavily intoxicated, Mrs Suwan added, » God, I must be bored ( laugh emoji)

If it’s anything like other beach towns, they have concessions from the local authorities. When those concessions were taken away, as on Phuket a good few years back, they had to fold up their chairs and leave the beach to the utter dismay of the tourists with families and children who could not sit in the sun all day. This put a lot of people out of work and put off tourists from using the beach. Now they are back again of course after a long absence, and everyone is happy again.

I have a fantastic Daikin reverse heat and aircon which is fantastic , in France ! Both work well as it gets pretty hot here ( Cannes) in summer around 33/35c and can be 12/ 15 in winter and less in mornings and night. I’m sure direct questions to Daikin would tell you where they sell. I was in the Malaysian highlands a few years ago and it would have been very cold without night time heating. Also north Thailand , on a 3 night treck 40 years ago I was freezing at night and early morning.

You say « the government is responsible for the welfare of its people and the economy « Don’t make me laugh ! As for foreigners who think they can decide what’s good for Thailand, that’s rubbish. It’s a question of respecting Human Rights . Do you also think that the murdering generals of Myanmar and North Korea and many other rogue governments should be ignored ? Maybe PolPot thought he was doing good for his country too ? Should we look away ?

SCOOP, on French TV, terrible scenes from Moscow, as combat Police take away young men off the streets by force !! Incredible ! Thousands of Russians in the roads protesting , at least 1026 ( midnight French time) have been arrested . Airports are full of people , mostly young men trying to flee the country. Some have been filmed and have given statements to the press , or social média perhaps., Is this the moment things change , let’s see what happens Thursday .
