Legal Strategies to Reduce Thai Tax
placnx replied to Mike Lister's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
IT means inheritance tax, I guess. It depends on which is your home country. The exemption in the US for now is $11mn (lifetime and at death). I believe that Thailand has a large exemption as well (Baht20mn per year), and the rate above that is 5%. So presumably one can wire the gift to the spouse's account in Thailand, but if only joint tax returns are permitted, wouldn't that still be a problem? -

For male couples, having their own children would involve surrogacy. Isn't that prohibited here? -

I seem to remember that a usufruct is more stable if the owner and the holder of the usufruct are not married. -
So in Sweden, does it matter if the couple is married? As long as the father is named on the birth certificate, that would give him all the cards, as long as the child is not kidnapped/taken to Thailand.

How China's Rhetoric is Turning Dangerous for Taiwanese Nationals
placnx replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I agree with you up to "IMO". Since the Ukraine war, China and Russia are working together to defeat international sanctions. Their fake islands in the South China Sea are quite useful in enforcing a blockade around Taiwan. It is Taiwan that is vulnerable to a lack of food and energy imports. To sanction Chinese exports would disrupt the world economy because China has acquired near monopolies in critical resources, some basic electronics, etc. -
The Hidden Dangers of Parasites in Stored Salmon

Traditionally, in Japan people only ate cooked salmon, since salmon can acquire parasites in Japanese rivers. -

I like the smoked duck (whole or half) from Tulou. It's an appetizer for 2-4 people. -

L'Elephant is quite good for French food, also Baan Mae, Busarin Cuisine, Ginger Farm Kitchen, and Wan Lamun for Thai food, Sushi Umai Nimman for Japanese, Accha for Indian, Blackitch Kitchen (fixed menu) for fusion Thai, Yangzi Jiang and Guo Se Tian Xiang (spicy) for Chinese, Greensmoked for contemporary Western food. -
Substandard Chinese Goods Flood Thai Markets, Cause Alarm

Many similar products are imported by middlemen here for resale, so may be more expensive than the direct sales through Temu. On the other hand, if there is a serious problem, like your house burned down, then the importer could be theoretically responsible. -
What about this Samsung Washing Machine? Should one buy it?

Before I had ELectrolux, washer and dryer. Now I have a Hitachi front loader and a Siemens dryer, both purchased 10 years ago. They are both much better than the Electrolux, but of course technology had advanced since I bought Electrolux so long ago that I can't remember when. -
Why not have it a joint Fox & ABC debate, with one moderator from each network? Also, there should be a truth meter at the bottom of the screen.

The ICC prosecutor has requested an arrest warrant for Haniyeh, despite the fact that he was leader of the political wing and, according to publicly available information, not taking part in the planning or execution of the 10/7 operation. Besides, he was leading the negotiations for the ceasefire. The bombing of Haniyeh is not in the interests of peace, but fits Netanyahu's objectives.

How about malware on her phone? Banking apps are dangerous, especially people who are not tech savvy. -

Maybe there is a keylogger malware on your computer. Aside from the antivirus software on your computer, there are scans available online to seek out and neutralize such malware. -
Buriram Woman Loses 530,000 Baht in Baffling Bank Transfers

My bank abolished online banking and said that customers should use their banking app. I will never do that. Fortunately I had already chosen to get a text message if there are withdrawals exceeding 5000 Baht. Of course that was set up through online banking. This is for a passbook account. If customers want to get such a text message service, can they set this up at their bank branch, or is the only option using the banking app? The latter would be bad, since once a banking app has been downloaded, that might open the customer up to illicit withdrawals, even if he/she deleted the app right after setting up the text message service. That's my fear, anyway.
