  1. Yeah, be the third in the line and wait 1h30min for your quick charge. Pass.

charging stations are booked by an app on your smart phone. you book and pay for an allotted time space and the fee is deducted from your credit card. 30 minutes to have a coffee use the wifi included, toilet stop and you are on your way.

  2. She must have stepped on some big toes in her past, because they seem to be ready to take her down.

No doubt the lese majesty charge opens the door to everything else.

she is a red shirt. that means she stepped on the toes of the yellow shirts. as the yellows are currently in power there may be justice here. sorry i dont follow thai politics closely enough to know the names of the political parties here. love the color coded system however. wish they would use it in other countries. great innovation thailand.

  3. the value of human life is a reflection of a society. justifying murder is a step backward from civilization.

will you think the death penalty is so great when the 2 koh tao murders are executed? no one he can understand the strain they and their families are under.

As oppossed to the strain the murdered family members are under?

Easy to pick one cloudy case when there are numerous cases in western society where guilty without doubt murderers with long lists of violent behaviour are doing pathetic short jail time and still running amok in society. Have no trouble what so ever with the death penalty for repeated guilty without doubt violent offenders. And would happily be the executioner myself if a repeat offender was violent to one of mine. The death penalty in some US states is about the one piece of legislation from the US that I would like to see introduced into New Zealand.

thankfully new zealand is a civilized developed country like most western countries and there will not be a death penalty, at least not in my lifetime. as society degrades the death penalty is used to try to restore order by setting the harshest possible punishment. some see it as a form of revenge. either way mistakes always get made and innocent people get killed. we now have alot of people in jail in new zealand with numbers increasing. some may see the death penalty as an answer. i see it as a step backwards.

  4. Trees always tugged at the heart strings of most people and will always win public approval whenever someone save a tree. This no exception but is it. Plantation farming is always on marginal agricultural land and is a sustainable managed farming of fast growing mono specie aimed at producing certified timber for the industry. Prayut is hasty and playing to the gallery by setting a wrong precedent to stop the plantation trees being cut which will encourage many to follow. The same can happen to eucalyptus, bamboo and rubber plantation and will have a big impact on the industry depending on certified plantation timber. Typical of his character for instantaneous over reaction without giving careful consideration.

you are right. i have had this discussion with many hippies. the trees are grown to be used. they suck up carbon as they grow which is then tied up in construction. then the new lot of trees are grown to keep sucking carbon out of the air. cant change a hippies mind however.

  5. from what i have read it says he was in competition with a local who had a similar business next door and they were not on good terms. the deceased was running his business to a very high standard and was doing quite well. hope they are investigating that angle. i have a business in pattaya and i have it fully covered by CCTV. takes alot of maintenance to keep it running but it is good peace of mind.

  6. worst thing i have heard of is bathrooms falling in. it is not common for waterproofing to be used behind tiles in the bathrooms. after a while the grout fails and water get into the cement and weakens the rebar. i know of 2 guys who went home to their condo and found their bathroom floor collapsed into the one below. this would put me off living in an older development.

  7. If you got any balls whatsoever, this guy needs to be confronted in a controlled but decisive manner!

Going alone would be the best option (your are not picking a fight just making a clear point), but given the language barrier I suggest you bring in a Thai speaker.

would be interesting to hear what would happen if you actually did this. it is the wrong thing to do however, confronting a thai in his own country especially one who thinks he has some power can only lead to bad things. he may even have some real connections and really screw you over. almost always the best advice in thailand is 'stay the hell out of everything'. you wife has a far better idea of how to handle this than any westerner here. go along with what ever she says.

  8. remember the army was bringing in some insurance to cover tourist who could not get any traveling to a country that was controlled by a military dictator? doubt that ever went any where and neither will this. basically anything they will do will increase the cost of travel for the tourist reducing the number of tourists coming here, especially the chinese. even if something was done the benefit verses cost would not be beneficial as money just vanishes in this country. think this topic has been done many times before and the result will be the same.

  9. i am not married with my kids mum. actually we are both married to other people. long story. i will go to the land office and see if they have some letter of permission. dont mind risking it on the cambodia trip but i am not taking any chances on the nz trip.. thanks, would be interesting to hear any other experiences. thanks.

What a tangled web you weave.

If your sprog does not have your surname in his passports, and your not listed in his passports as next of kin, then yes, lawyer up, do your forms.

    tangled web of lies?

both my kids have my last name in their thai and nz passports.

Tangled web...you said you're both married to other people? Must confuse the authorities when presenting marriage certificates and such, as part of required documents. Maybe simplify your lives a bit, then it might be easier to convince the authorities that your children are yours.

If your surname in your passport matches your children's, in English, in their, then you surely need nothing else than that.

Me and mine have never had any trouble, having all the same surname in English in all passports. Not the slightest hint of a question. And we've been popping around several countries on holidays for several years.

But if you have already had a problem, then lawyer up and get a ton of documents.

never had to show any marriage certificates for anything. no problems travelling overseas yet as we all normally travel together. my 5 year old and like visiting my parents farm so we are going to go just the 2 of us this time. seems some people have had troubles traveling as a single parent with kids and some havent.

  10. for what it is worth,

i have traveled to the US with my 2 young daughters and just myself. They have my last name, a US passport and a Thai passport. Last time at the airport we were questioned a bit suspiciously by passport control. Seemed the authorities were concerned I was doing a runner. But after my 5 year old explained that their Thai mother was already in the US and we were going go see her, they let us pass.

Based on that experience, if your son does not have your last name, I would prepare some sort of documentation to be on the safe side.

I was actually glad to see the immigration concerned about the children. It seemed to me they were just trying to make sure everything was on the up and up, as they should.

i am certainly not complaining about them being strict. everything needs to be done to stop kids being moved around without the correct permission.

both my kids have my last name on both passports.

  11. Go with your wife to your Amphoe and ask for a permission letter. This letter you have to show the Immigration. I did the same with my son in February and even I had the letter and a K.R.11 (Official document proving my parental rights) it took me 30 minutes to clear immigration. Maybe it was more difficult for me because I am not married to his mother and my son has a different family name than mine. But it is definitely worth to have this letter in my experience.

Only a statement of the mother is definitely not enough, even Bangkok Air wanted to see the letter before boarding the plane to Bkk.

I have been given this same information. Theyou said they are cracking down and demanding this because of those surrogatesites. I was also informed it may speed things a along if the wife accompanies you to the airport. But for sure you need that letter from the amphor.

i thought about taking my sons mum to the airport but once we check in we pass through security so she would not be with us at immigration so i dont think it would help.

  13. And is

I don't understand this: there is not a single reachable metal piece in a fridge. It's all plastic. So how can he be electrocuted? Or have I been living in false sense of a security ? Confusing.

It doesn't make sense.....opening a fridge....rummaging around inside ......nothing in there to get a shock from....either he fooled with the power cable or outlet.....or was possibly assisted

And is your typical police guy qualified to make assessments in regard to electrical stuff?

think you will find most of the assessments on here are made by non qualified people. this is a forum to discuss things and have a bit of fun. not much of a discussion if everyone has to be qualified to make comments.

  14. Wiring is not earthed nor is a Safe-T-Cut installed.

None of the fridges I have have a three pin plug, I ran a separate wire from the ground pin to a screw on the fridge at my house. Safe-t-cut would likely have worked. Nasty way to go, should have at least been reaching for a beer and not water.

Just curious.....if none of your fridges have a 3 pin plug, how come they have a "ground pin"?

appliances often have a pin for an earth but it is rare to find wall sockets that run a wire to the earth. i went around to pick up a washing machine last year and it had a green earth wire hard wired to its metal case. someone had run it to a pot plant and stuck it in the soil. wish i took a photo.
