  1. great, let's chop down more forests to grow 'bio' fuel.

is more environmentally friendly to produce ethanol than it is to burn fossil fuels. the extraction and consumption of oil and coal creating carbon dioxide is the greatest threat to the human race. loosing forests is the side effect of having to cut carbon emissions in this case.

  2. Don't pay it no matter what is said. You were only doing what comes naturally when a man is drunk in horny. Stand up for your principles even if it means jail time and deportation. At least you will know you fought the good fight.

What a cretinous bit of logic--"what comes naturally when a man is drunk in (sic) horny" He's lucky he wasn't shot.

It's bad enough that so many people cannot handle alcohol, but even worse that so many others accept it.

I think somebody needs to find their sense of humor.....

how can you not find that funny? germans were voted the least funny nation of people, however where ever you are from probably deserves it more.

  3. better stay away from the whole wai thing. i only ever return them. you notice that even the thais dont do it that often so as a foreigner you are better not to. in the case you explain the guy was probably younger than you so you should not have given him a wai.

  4. 8:30 at night?

    62-year old man?

Group of motorbike taxi drivers particpate in a "beat down" that leaves farang with serious head injuries.

This is why I tell everyone I know in the US to never visit Thailand.

Even if the damage to the motorbike is true, and there are many instances of this type of scam, the resulting actions are criminal.

Lesson to all farang: Smile. Be apolite. Get the police involved.

good advice except for get the police involved. they will only escalate things, generally side with thais in any dispute and want money for 'solving' any problems.

he would have been better to forget the 1000thb and get a bike from someone else next time.

  5. they were going to distribute full copies of the referendum? the translated copy i read was well over 100 pages.

How else was everyone supposed to know it's contents?

would have thought the internet would have been the best way, followed by TV, followed by news papers. promoting it was probably not in the governments best interests however as it seems they are trying to bring in some un elected 250 person council to oversee the running of the country.

paper media is in fast decline and posting out large pamphlets to over 20 million households seems to be quite an exercise.

  6. How are the people going to know what to vote either way ? Where I live No informative leaflets have been delivered to households .

Are the people going to be expected to vote BLIND , with No knowledge of the content of the proposed constitution ?

general public could look online what the referendum is all about, if they have internet access. like another person said the people dont seem to be so worried about what is in it. those pro army govt will vote for it and those against the army govt will vote against it. will be interesting to see how it turns out.

  7. I know it is not a true Democracy, but it is better then having people camping on Sukhumvit road. Sorry for the people; but better for business.

And now that all countries recognize the military government; i don't care if they stay in power forever. So let the PM and the military continue

to rule the country. It is better for business.

If the people did not want the coup, two years ago. They could have stopped it; same as the people in turkey. But half the country

were unhappy with the old government. Every three years it is the same thing. camp out and protest on the streets. Force a government

change; then do it again three years later !

Good job Prime Minister; keep business working.

All countries recognise the military government ?

    Troll alert!!

the last of the junta lovers. thought they were extinct. we need to capture this last one and save a DNA sample just in case we need to bring it back for the next coup. remember it has already been over 2 years since the last one so the next one can not be far away.

  8. there is going to be an appointed non elected 250 person council to run the country? dam those guys are gonna become very rich. even the all power full general with the absolute powers of article 44 have not been able to stop corruption in thailand. wonder if i can get a work permit to sit on that council.

  9. I believe the OP.

Send me a PM and I'll buy you a few beers on bintabaht.

cant see why this is not true. unfortunately there are alot of negative people on here who create a negative atmosphere and put genuine posters off coming here for advice.

wish i could make it to bintabaht for a beer. wont be in hua hin till october. bet this story is even better when told over a few beers. please let us all know what the end result is.

  10. this is an odd situation. everyone has an opinion on something almost no one has any idea about. simply put if you like the government then vote for it if you dont like the current government vote against it. the ironic thing is if you dont like the current government voting the referendum down will probably mean they will be in power longer. thailand just keeps getting more and more strange.

  11. Actually the question that needs to be asked is why the current government is in hibernation on this matter, part of the increased losses can therefore directly be contributed to the Junta.

Oh yes, blame those trying to resolve a bad situation, not those who created it. Should they have sold off the stockpile as fast as possible without regard to the incomes of those the original scheme was alleged to help? You might remember this from 2 days ago

Domestic paddy price for July surpasses 10,000 baht/tonne the first in three years

2/3 of what PTP were paying for it, with absolutely no expectation of getting the people's money back.

I am taking the blame right from the OP:

Of the over 17 million tons of rice now in government stocks, only 7.5 million tons had been sold out by the government during the past two years.

He recommended the government to speed up the rice selling, twice a month regularly to clear the entire stock within 2-3 years.

    "

There was an article recently that claimed now was a good time of any to offload some of the excess stock, that hasn't happened at a fast enough rate according to the OP.

some of the rice sales fell through as the buyers said the rice was substandard and refused to take it.

  12. Don't know why they call it yinglucks scam. It was her brothers scam.

Poor farmers are poorer and in more debt now than they ever were. Kinda what the PTP wanted to allow them to capture votes next election with the carrot always just out of reach.

Thank god for reform. The Junta have been a god send to these poor farmers.

"The Junta have been a god send to these poor farmers. "

    555555555555! Good one!

not just to the farmers. i can now get a lottery ticket at the correct price. not really sure it is worth it as it is getting harder to get a beach chair now and the skin cancer is killing me.

  13. well we have all had a few boozy nights that have gone a bit wrong and anyone here who hasnt has probably had a pretty boring life. now the best and probably cheapest way out of this is to go back with half the remaining money in your hand (30 000thb if my maths are correct) say that is what you can afford and you are willing to pay it all in one go or spend it on a lawyer. sounds like the greedy lady will take the cash settlement. of course you need it in writing that everything is settled. thousands of dollars for 2 smashed windows is a crazy amount of money but as a foreigner sometimes you just have to suck it and accept that is the way it goes.

  14. i really enjoy living in jomtien however i am very disappointed with the removal of the nice shade trees and the replanting with the non shade giving palm trees. was it just because of having to clean up the leaves or were they deliberately going for the more sterile look?

  15. A tenant is not a guest so I guess you agree with me then.

i agree that someone staying in your house paying rent is not your guest, he would be your tenant. not really sure what that has to do with thailand considering you to be a guest.

check all your paperwork on you visas, it even says you are a guest in thailand, permitted to stay for the length of your visa. some of us are lucky and can stay for decades on these conditions, some cant.

You can regard yourself as a guest all you want. I will continue to regard myself as someone living in Thailand.

    deal.

  17. For what it is worth, it is 111 in New Zealand.... I think it was established to be "in line" with US, but on a Kiwi keyboard... which is different...

    crazy.gifneus.gif

if you dial 911 in new zealand it still goes through to the emergency line. perhaps both numbers 191 and 911 should be used in thailand for emergencies, then there would not be a problem.
