  1. You might as well say rice isn't part of Thai cuisine. Of course, chicken is part of Isaan cuisine. It's part of many cuisines. They make it and eat it there! What did you think they were eating? International chicken? ???? It doesn't have to be particularly unique. What do you want them to do to the chicken to make it their own?? Haha
  2. Grilled chicken is not Isaan food??
  3. My least favorite is Central Thailand. Whenever we visit relatives there, it's just 'pad gra pao 'every 2nd day, alternating with fried rice or omelet. How boring.
  4. Isaan cuisine is one of my favorites. A variety of juicy BBQ or fried meats (with flavorful dipping sauces), spicy salads, and sticky rice. What's not to like? Chicken soup, various larbs, and even their own version of Tom Yum soup (hot and sour; no sweet coconut milk in it). Great stuff!
  5. Can't think of a single stir fry in Isaan cuisine.
  6. I think it can't drop below 400k, right? It's probably because they are wise to retirees using agents to just drop money in the bank two months before then take it out again after they get visa. Really the applicant can't support himself and they are taking this mickey out of immigration Do you really think there are enough foreign retirees to prop up the banks with 400k each? Lol I don't agree. Many investments are illiquid and to sell quick you have to sell cheap (e.g. Thai property market) Some investments are volatile. You can drop 90% on some stocks in a very short period of time. They can go to zero too. How you gonna pay the rent then? Alright Warren Buffett. I have a stock portfolio too, but I wouldn't feel comfortable - and it would probably be irresponsible - if my cash balance dropped below 400k with a family to support or retired. Like, seriously, would you be retired and be 100% in stocks?? That's a good way to ruin your life. You should always have an emergency fund and 400k minimum ain't a lot if you've worked your whole life
  7. Okay, so I guess we won't be hearing from you on how intolerant we are from now on then?
  8. Not at all. The only significance is that he didn't violently attack actual real women (females), which society strongly believes is bad. I think the article points out the trans thing to highlight the fact that he attacked biological men, which is generally considered a lesser offence by society.
  9. Why? It makes sense to me. They're men who are in a trans state. Similar to ladyboy. They are boy/male, but act like a lady. We don't call them 'man ladies.' That would be stupid an akin to 'trans women'
  10. I'd have reported them as trans men or ladyboys, personally.
  11. But you are speaking about gender ideology. You aren't even speaking about the actual incident. You are taking it to a broader level of discussion. And now you don't want to discuss it anymore ????
  12. So, if a person outside of Thailand referred to them as men, would you give them a pass? Or would they be intolerant too?
  13. Thailand is a unique case as ladyboys have been in Thailand for a long time. So, yes, in Thailand people are aware of it more than most other places in the world and children do understand the concept intellectually once they are old enough, but it is not something that children instinctively or naturally understand.
  14. It isn't basic. It isn't even relevant to most people. Imagine thinking the world revolves around your little group of people. Jeez. The whole gender ideology is no more important than any religion. Jesus identified as the son of God. Not everyone has to accept it, or look it up, or be interested in it. If a man identifies as a woman, fine. But this topic is not for everyone.
  15. The only thing about this incident and their gender/sex is if they had been biological women, then they probably wouldn't have gotten a smack on the chops. They would have likely been treated differently. Most men are ashamed to hit females. I think labelling someone as intolerant is probably a bit harsh. If my grandfather saw them he'd probably call a spade a spade, doesn't mean he's intolerant. A child would probably accurately describe them as a man in dress. Again, no intolerance. It just is what it is. A lot of people are not so wordly wise or sophisticated. Many small town people have never seen such a person. And then there are people on the spectrum who see everything as factual. To them, a man is a man. You really don't need to tar and feather everyone in the world who isn't up to speed with your woke/gender identity stuff as 'intolerant' And if you do, then you're just as bad, ironically.
  16. I suspect it mentioned that they were trans women to make it seem more newsworthy. A couple of blokes getting a smack on the chops isn't really newsworthy; society doesn't care about male-on-male violence, unless it's particularly serious.
  17. This thread should really be: the positives of going back your home country. Rather than: move to Cambodia, Laos, or Philippines! Like, why move to a worse place than Thailand? Positives of the UK for me would include: -golfing -fishing -hiking -cool climate -seasons -better food -better drink -healthcare -nicer environment To be honest, I'm looking forward to when I retire and having a 50/50 split between Thailand and my home country, if I can afford it, of course (but people have decades to prepare for retirement, so I'd say it's doable...........so is having 800k - or even double - in the bank for a Thai retirement extension).
  18. What money grab? Is the cost of retirement visa going up? I thought they just want to see you have an acceptable balance in your account to provide for yourself.
  19. I'll just save more money and stay in Thailand, I think.
  20. Thanks for reminding me to floss, guys.
  21. This viper pit thread reminds me of this quote.
  22. They'd likely have had more respect if it was a local, rather than treating him with such contempt..... mainly because they'd fear the local's reaction. Farang are generally not considered a threat to Thais in any way.
  23. The farang hate on the site really is a phenomenon.
  24. I know someone who took a non-stick frying pan (when they were first invented) back to the store to return it -- with a fried egg still stuck to it! Haha
