he's acting like he's on one of Musks' rockets - heading to the moon. what is more likely is that the old saying will come true: ''the bigger they are, the harder they fall'' . as a Christian by nature, I don't wish ill will. But it will make my day when it happens. because the rest of the family are pretty usless deplorables.
The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward (no, not justice) wealth and power. That's the truth of it if one looks at the historical record. With apologies to Martin Luther King Jr.

A good place to start would be to put the lazy police force out on to the streets enforcing laws, start by making the streets safe to travel, the sidewalks safe to walk on, and the Zebra crossings safe to cross. The knock-on effect of which will put police in neighborhoods to stop so-called crimes before they happen, to keep the streets clear of traffic and illegally parked cars and vendors. I know, its too much to ask, This is Thailand the land of the lawless.
Let's wish him luck rather be cynical and sarcastic before he's even begun. Progress in these areas is difficult even for those with the best intentions. Remember he's going after a well entrenched status quo. As far as "land of the lawless", ever hear of a place called The United States?

Money talks...BS walks...
Right. Exactly. Meanwhile people in this forum think they're all political geniuses and they draw conclusions based on basically nothing. They have opinions based on what they read in the news, which is worth nothing. Yet commenters here seem to think they have divine insight into matters that are effectively hidden from all scrutiny. Silly me, I didn't bring my crystal ball here with me when I came. Truth: It's always all about the money, that's what makes the world go round, politically and otherwise. It has always been that way, in every country, in every civilization. There are more people here taking themselves and their opinions way too seriously, much more so than the Thai population who go about their lives seemingly untouched by all this horrible drama. Wonder why? Well I guess if it weren't for all of these concerned expats who else would save Thailand from itself? Well, I don't know, they've managed to survive 2000 years without blowing themselves to kingdom come, they've managed to stay out of wars since 1947, and all the coups seem to have been relatively without casualties or major changes to the lives of Thai people.

And, will any of this bring Thaksin back to jail where he belongs? No.
Sad. But looking at the rest of the world, including the so-called civilized world, nobody should be surprised.
Looking at the rest of the world, who cares? What did he ever to do you?

A 66 year old grey haired man? Maybe he yelled at them to get away from his car. Death penalty for that, right?

Good to arrest these culprits... this week there was a release of somebody who was convicted for 500 million fraud, there are many drugsdealers, maffia, youth with guns and knifes, traffic offenders, and many more crimininals in Thailand, but the an Indian man who makes a living in selling icecream without an impossible to get workpermit ( he is not allowed to do anything a Thai can do )and overstay visa is the worst here can happen.... Good job policeoffers.... do the easy things and let the big fishes get away, as they probably help you to gat an income raise.
So is it any different in your country? BTW, why are you here anyway? Ran out of things to complain about at home? How does any of this actually affect you personally? Thinking of opening an ice cream business, only to see all your dreams shattered?

I would almost bet the farm that the 2-5 sales ban stays....
Why?
Because the 2-5 sales ban is complete non sense....
Which is precisely the reason it stays....
The Thai government has a thing for non sense rules...
Well, I happen to like the rules that let me live here in the peace, beauty, and fun, without the weekly mass shootings, hate, violence, and racism of the US

I’m from the USA, and I’ve never experienced an issue buying beer/liquor between the hours of 2:00p and 5:00p. I’ve lived in and traveled to many States, never had such an issue. Some states have restrictions selling before 10:00 or 11:00a, and after midnight, but other than some “dry counties” in the South, no issues in my experience.
Way back when in the US booze could not be sold on Sundays. "Blue Laws". When governments finally started smelling the money to be made they eliminated that. In Thailand I believe originally there was a reason for the 2 - 5 ban, possibly to do with afternoon naps, or a king's decree, or something Buddhist. I think someone told me once but I forgot

How about adjusting the cost of wines to bring the price of a bottle of wine in line with other countries.
I'm not sure how it works here, the price might have to do with taxes, as it is in Scandinavia, where booze is exponentially higher than the US because of tax. I don't drink wine so I plead ignorance. All I buy here is beer, and that's only when I go out

You can't stop the drugs unless you remove the corrupt RTP and the army, who take care of the billions of baht that the drugtrade is generating. Take care of your grand children instead before you're dead.
You can't stop the drugs, never could, never will. Name one country that has? First there is always a demand largely due to untreated addicts who can'r stop. Second because there are fortunes to be made making and selling it and no amount of attempts at law enforcement can stop any significant percent of it. If it were possible it would have been done by now. BTW you're not Thai, so why does what the Thai people, politicians, police, and government have to do with you anyway? How do they affect you directly?

Ummmmm, because most of the criminals are foreigners? But, what did you do, time them and collect statistics for a year, you know, collect actual facts behind what you say, or did that just come spilling out of your head like a bucket of waste water?

How many of you were there at the trial and saw the evidence and heard the testimony? How many of you are legally trained and educated? Keep that in mind. Some of your opinions may be well thought out and sensible, others' might be untethered to reality. I agree with what the court has decided for now. In the past it was highly unlikely that a cop would ever get convicted for anything like this, but today is the era of video and cops can't lie and perjure their way out of their crimes. having said that, who cares what I think? I didn't come to Thailand to dwell on the God awful behavior of Americans.

Other than the taking or possession of illegal drugs, what is illegal about this gathering of scantily clad like-minded men and women?
I don't know anything about Thai law enforcement, but if they don't want to invent charges like prostitution because of the exchange of drugs and money I think there will be no other prosecutions other than for drugs. Silly really. I think they will all get off easy. I think the cops might think they're setting an example and also posing for the press to show everyone how successful they are at their jobs. Just a press photo op and showcase, really

Good to see a happy story for a change. I wish him health and a speedy recovery. Not everyone is fortunate when it comes to go fund me. I started one for a Thai lady whose leg was shattered in a motorbike accident and I got all of $60 US. I sent her $500 US. I guess it matters how many western friends you have and if your big on Tiktok and/or youtube.

Regard your million baht as a nest egg that you can build on for 14 years, not as a fixed amount that you'll have to slowly drain. Once you settle here you will know how much you will need on a yearly basis. based on your budget You should take part of it and invest it where you will get a return on it, and can easily liquidate it in an emergency. I keep my nest egg in the Vanguard High Yield Index mutual fund where it pays me a dividend, but even a money market fund would be better than letting it just sit doing nothing. It won't take more than 2 years or so to evaluate your trajectory and make the necessary plans and changes. You should have more confidence by then.

While your estimate may be true by way of your experience, you're dead wrong to declare "no way". There are many much less expensive options.

Drug and alcohol addiction and other related recklessness don't favor any age group, but yes I agree. If you can get it out of your system in your 20s and survive you're ahead of the game.
