So if your miserable you should be ashamed of yourself as many other people would jump through hoops to be in your shoes. That's depressed me more. No all the advice given hasn't helped one jot. I'm fed up. Nothing is wrong, no bad news? Hmm the world is coming to an end. The Brexit, Trump, etc.. Nothing on the horizon. No hope, we're waiting for the day they say out. Out you go. No more cheap Charlie. It will happen and soon.

There is always Cambodia. If the Thais are stupid enough to kill their cash cows, then Cambo will welcome us with open arms. It's a  bit more rustic, but very flexible.

Please elaborate on that a wee bit.

Hard to explain, but the essence seems to be "...I deserve it because I am Thai and YOU......are an outsider." It's a form of entitlement which many groups feel because they deem themselves, somehow "superior" to other groups. Thais are not unique in this feeling. Japanese feel this way, as well. Many in southeast Asian countries look down on Thais as lazy and entitled. Not at all far from the truth.

I guess you were not scammed

He was scammed. If it is, in fact, illegal...he should not have been allowed to buy items at Duty Free that were in violation. This is obviously a scam involving the resale of items such as perfume and booze by the authorities. Just another example of the corruption that is endemic in Thailand.

I would make every immigration office a separate entity, and authorise them to interpret the immigration law, any way they chose to. I would encourage inconsistencies between offices, even within the same office. I would have 3-4 databases, not linked. I would try to have many "open other end" procedures in place.
