From what I have read about pensions and taxes, bottom line is a "civil" pension is usually exempt but unless taxes are taken out by the paying government, I think the DTA's allow the Tax resident country to tax according to their tax charges. BUT, I am not an expert by any means and this is my feelings based on things I have heard in webinars (but usually they have other issues wrong at times too, plus what I have read about the Thai taxes (sorry no link as it was months ago probably). But anyway, Reading some of the latest tax issues being talked about, they are also concerned about possibly losing many expats and the money they do spend here so some of them obviously realize that expats are not tourists! In any case, I don't think that most of the expats will ever have to pay anything substantial if one has been paying taxes in their home country or has very low income. From many recent local newspapers, it seems that Thailand really wants to be able to join the OECD group so that means that they have to fix the tax issues both corporate and individual, as well as the educational system locally.

Nothing about the tax situation after several govt officials suggested tha pichai bring people up to date on that earlier after their debate on the VAT situation. He put out a lengthy interview but only concentrated on the VAT and never nailed down anything at all, just a lot of hot wind do I wonder if anything new will be forthcoming prior to sometime next year. If nothing else changes then I could care less as I have no assessable income due to LTR and DTA but TIT...Have a Merry Xmas to tall

Thailand Birth Rate Nosedives: 81% Drop Surpasses Japan

I do live overseas and my medical insurance covers all for my family. If medical treatment in the states was so affordable then there wouldn't be that particular problem for citizens there. As for here, the insurance companies either will not insure an older one fully without conditions normally and still would charge way too much as the hospital and doctors costs are lower here than many places. But corruption in just about every area is now a problem with mankind.
-
The problem with medicare for all is that it does not insure via medicare for overseas treatment - thus some expats might be affected in a negative fashion, having to insure locally at an advanced age. If however, medicare for all included overseas treatment too then that would definitely get my support as I pay way too much for my "cadillac" coverage!

Thai E-Cigarette Debate Sparks Health Experts' Outrage

Well I doubt that asit seems to me that too many senior managers only care about profits, not costs to customers. -
I sympathize with you but have to agree with the other comments, TIT and no matter how much you hate that situation, your getting involved will only lead to worse even if not to that 27-year old. I have two daughters and if a 27-year old had sex with either, i would probably end up in prison, while he would actually escape any jail time.

WEll, if it was so easy then I fail to understand double the cost. I spent very little time at home doing all the paperwork and forwarding to the BOI, then a short train ride to the BOI, maybe an hour total there for review of my acct, payment and cancellation of retirement visa. Much easier than doing the yearly long stay extension. But, you never mentioned anything about hospitalization insurance which is part of the requirements too. The main thing about all this, is that if you are happy then welcome to this club as I think all of us with the LTR are pleased.

Not sure if you noticed yesterday's BP where pary head advised finance minisrter pichai that nothing has been said lately about the tax schemes and he should update all as even the govt has no idea where the discusion. Maybe he will tell us too. stands.http://bangkokpost.com/business/general/2915171/paetongtarn-dumps-15-vat-Plan

Thai E-Cigarette Debate Sparks Health Experts' Outrage

Along the same lines, cirrhosis of he liver caused by alcohol consumption, that and cigarettes of all types causing health issues, govt should force the tobacco and alcoholic drinks to pay hospital costs for hospital and doctor patient caused by their products. Then they will either increase cost of same to pay for those medical bills and probably force people to better spend their money on something else not as dangerous to one's health. IMHO anyway. -

Is 1 million baht enough to retire in Thailand?
Presnock replied to Celsius's topic in General Topics
I kinda agree with all the frivolous responses. If you cannot get a govt retirement check for 14 more years, then you are a relatively youngster compared to many on this forum like me 78 years old and therefore you are still young enough to go out and find a job that doesn't even require many skills in order to survive until that check comes along.BTW just how old are you? -
yeah and I agree totally - my family health insurance is going up at a record rate for next year. I get a COLA too and that is lower this year, plus the health insurance increase will take up 1/3 of the COLA amount. I have had no claims at all for more than 10 years and no where near the costs of the increases over the years. I do believe that it is a ripoff business but just afraid to forego it!

since smoking is an entirely personal choice deny any medical insurance claims with health problems arising from smoking -
guess you would rather just see someone write "Yes I won" I had a lot of choices during my life. At war I lost friends even in my civilian career lost friends and could easily have been there too at the wrong time. That is what life to me means - making the right choices at each particular opportunity. That is what America means to me - opportunities.

Prostate surgery user reviews .... turp? rezum? other ?
Presnock replied to rumak's topic in Health and Medicine
My father had prostrate cancer and went for a 'trim" and radiation. Afterwards he told me if it came back then he would die as the treatment was worse than the disease. dR. William Li a reknown Harvard heart specialist and researcher in 2023 wrote two books on preventing disease and treating disease with natural foods which have much fewer side effects. For any prostate problems. in the lab, they found that soy contains high bioactives known as isoflavins and a dietary supplement called genistein concentrated polysaccharide (GCP) could also directly kill prostate cancer. As for tomatoes, lycopene in an experiment at Harvard examined 46,719 men found that consuming two to three cups of tomato sauce saw a 30% decreased risk og prostate cancer. I read recently (forgot where but think it was lifeline newsletter - anyway BPH sufferer was advised to eat 3 tablespoons of tomato paste for 10 weeks to shrink his protate and also lowered his PSA levels. Just saying, as I am 78, eat a lot of tomatos plus tomato paste dail plus pomegranate juice/seeds regularly and although my male familiy members have all had enlarged prostate problems, I have avoided them and hope that continues. I drink a half glass of water just before sleep, sleep 7-8 hours and never wake up having to go to the bathroom during the night. I do wish you luck with whatever you try to do. And just this week in a weekly health letter it mentioned that a "healthy" diet with lots of fruits and veggies helped alleviate some prostate problems. Sorry I can't be more specific on where I read those articles but If I see any more I will pass them on. -
I responded there already and just responding to the bashing here too.

Basically the same cause too and useless politicians! IMHO as an American

Well, I have lived in Spain, Italy, Malta, Geneva in Europe and many countries in Asia, a couple i Africa and while I enjoyed all of them, each has their own problems. As an American I still love the USA and the freedoms it stands for and guarantees for other countries too. I don't go around and complain about foreigners and really fail to understand why they bash Americans unless it is jealousy or envy. There is no so-called "garden of Eden" or perfection anywhere. Get over it and yourself if you can't understand that please.

Yeah, I have learned afer living in many countries around the world, folks outside the big cities of that country are much nicer than those in the big cities, no matter the country in my experience.

Many moons ago I spent a couple of years in Madrid. When we would go out tapa hunting in the evenings, we each would put in a couple of dollars (in peseta exchange rate today is almost the same) and we would spend 6 hours going from tapa bar to one speciallizing in a different tapa. We got a small glass of table wine each place too. We thought that it was extremely cheap comared to most places we had ever gone. Great foods too! But to me the people of Spain were much nicer than the people of Madrid. Loved being able to go play in the mountain snow one day and the next drive down to the sunny beaches!

Thai Tax Strategy Revamp: VAT Hike, Income Tax Cuts Proposed
Presnock replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
This change in personal income tax is to attract WORKERS to earn a salary here. Under the LTR wealthy workers already have that lower income tax (they get a work permit through the BOI too. AND, remember they have been talking about different tax scheme for many months now and this is just another one to throw into the mixture. This didn't seem to say anything about remitted funds or worldwide income taxation. -
Yessir one can trace the decline of the US society by looking at the spread of social media and the crap on almost all of those shows whether organized or just for solo expression. I am OLD! and have watched this decline which seemed to begin in late VN war era and has been moving seemingly on a DOWNHILL getting steeper and faster all the time. Now, my friends and family in the US all complain about EVERYTHING on a daily basis. I am glad I remain in Paradise! and can basically ignore 99% of the crap. Happy December to all!
