  1. i know this is Thailand but in the US illegal substance in your system is not possession or a legal offense (unless you are

in Prison under some conditions of parole/bailed from Jail and maybe for Military members who are subject to UCOMJ).

It is actually a metabolite in your system anyway.  Driving while impaired is illegal not just drinking. Checks at Sobriety checkpoints are an accurate indication of impairment
Further blood/breath tests can show you are above a set legal limit to drive.

Many problems with random testing of tourists. Chain of custody and accuracy issues. Somebody may have smoked Ganja legally in their

home country weeks ago, not proof of busting any Thai law.  Why not just drug test every Long Hair hipster on flights from Amsterdam and bang them up.

That should be great for Tourism.

I have done drug testing  as a security/insurance requirement of certain jobs as a condition of employment.  Self-sealed split samples go into separate bottles

that must bear your signature. THEN the whole lot goes s into a FEDEX/DHL envelope signed sealed again and sent to a independent 3rd party Lab.

None of this drop your shorts by the side of Jungle road "Oh you purple! Bad Farang" A perfect opportunity for corruption and extortion.

       She sure wasnt welcoming .

I went there one evening and simply asked whether I could watch football , she aid that there wasnt any football being shown on Television  that night , I told her that there was being shown on the Vietnamese channel and they had it because I watched the same channel in there a few weeks back , she was adamant that there was no football on TV .

So, I went to a bar to watch it just down the road to watch it .

As I walked back past the half moon , I told her that I watched the football somewhere else ...............and she banned me from ever going into the Half moon again

You made a Thai woman lose face. Fortunate you did not get physically attacked and just got 86'd from the place.

  3. The only legal way for the average  "retired"  expat to do this is thru an agency.

Income from rentals attracts tax. The real estate Agency does the "work", and takes their cut.

of your income.  Somebody also has to report arrivals of Aliens to immigration within 24 hours or face fines.

Air BnB is a great idea but basically illegal and not allowed by many Condos Rules.

Of course the son could board in the UK. He is a UK citizen with a UK passport. Why would he need his Thai passport to board a plane in the UK?

Sounds more likely that the mother didn't take the Thai passport with her so the son simply entered Thailand on the UK passport without realizing the complications it could create. The parents have probably since found out that, although of dual nationality, the son is considered to be a British citizen on Immigration's database in Thailand so he would have to leave Thailand on the UK passport then re-enter on a new Thai passport to correct it.

Makes sense except for Fleecing regarding a child. My bestie lives in US and is a US citizen based on marriage and having Gren Card for the required minimum period. Flying to Thailand she pulls out the Thai passport and enters the country as a Thai.
  5. Huge in Australia it was also an era when America wouldn't accept anything from outside.  Like Aussie movies that had to be dubbed with American accents to be accepted.

The reason for that resistance to subtitles. Trainspotting had subtitles in the US. I saw "Mad Max" original debut at an ArtHouse theatre in Berkeley CA. Brilliant with the Original Aussie soundtrack. (Most Americans don't know Mel Gibson ditched his accent).

Previous US administrations did abstain on such UNSC votes. In Obama's 8 years in office this is a first. Makes Obama very protective of Israel on this front, compared to other presidents. Reagan, Clinton, Bush Sr. and Jr. - all did, and more times than Obama.

Previous administrations did abstain, the content of the resolution and the timing making it unprecedented. US policy is already clear. What forced Obama at this time,  to take an action that has immediately won the praise of Hamas (recognized by the US as a terrorist organization)?  Clear where Obama stands on this issue, Krauthammer wasn't lying when he said the US joined a pack of "jackals". The UN is good for very few things, one being a platform for criticism of Israel that goes well beyond rational debate and into anti-semitism. Like many of the predictable responses on this forum.

  7. The official policy of the USA  is opposition to settlements. Even Bush. This however never would have happened under any other administration.

Obama the leftist radical joining the pack of Jackals to rhetorically throw Israel under the bus. A  gesture that will soon be negated.

Starting to warm to Trump.  Perhaps the people of NYC have had enough traffic jams, hotel maid rapes, "accredited diplomats" driving like animals and parking everywhere with diplomatic plates.

Trump should use his property development experience to arrange replacement with Condos. Then relocate the lot of them to a lower impact site,  perhaps Ottawa? Much better platform for wonderful supporters of Freedom the likes of Gaddafi, Chavez, and Achmedinejad to harangue America from.

You must be extremely young, or not into music.

RIP. Never heard of 'em either. I am not young (US) and have a huge British collection starting with hard rock to prog, metal, Stranglers, Punk, etc. (Everything from Fripp /Crimson/Eno can get my hands on).

Just cued their hits on youtube and I have never heard "in the Army now" but certain I have "rocking' all over the world somewhere. Perhaps too commercial for what I have an ear for.

  9. Bringing in 7/11 Beers of course not OK. Also drunkenly approaching random women as  prostitutes.

Before checking if it is actually somebody's wife or a Japanese University professor. Then persisting after

the Thai guys with them already asked you to leave nicely.

Has this actually ever happened ?

Tuk-tuk drivers attacking people for not accepting a fare ?

I have never heard of a situation like this happening

Yes. And Say you get a warm beer, Don't make a rude  face and complain. (drunk angry whatever).

The barman and his 'roid mates in bouncer t-shirts may take offense.

Just order some ice for your warm beer.

  11. Just don't cause any Thai male, "Ladyboy", or BG to lose face.

For example the Tuk-Tuk drivers waiting outside Yellow late at night demand outrageous fares. If you refuse you may be set upon, so don't ask. Just walk one block away and flag another down. "No proplemm"

Aren't hotels required to have liability insurance in case of fire, earthquake, accident? Most certainly the guests and the hotel would not be covered without a licence. A good reason to shut them all down!

In the event of negligence/accident/injury The chance of a standard tourist getting money out of a small hotel/guesthouse in Thailand is near zero anyway.

whether they have license /insurance or not.

Even in the States with big chains it takes lawyers. I has a slip/fall one night at a St. Regis ended up getting a couple stitches on my leg. Morning comes about 5 managers showed up at my room asking if I was OK, if they can do anything for me?  I'm like "yeah man I'm going skiing". I just asked that they pay for the emergency room deductible (About $150 as I recall) and can you comp my Mom a spa treatment? St Regis then sicked their subrogation company "Gallagher-Basset" on me who kept contacting for weeks. They could not believe I wasn't suing. Still took months to get my $150.

  13. The fine for owners in Chiang Mai is 1600 Baht been going on for a few months.

No proplemm complying with the rules but I have owned a condo more than 8 years and I think it would have been sporting for

Immigration to give some prior given notice regarding enforcement of TM30. 1600 baht is fair as it is not more than 2000 but I would have preferred to

get a nice dinner with that.

According to Jomtien officer  interpretation I should have been fleeced more than 584,000 Baht! Amazing how they come up with this stuff.
