  1. My two year license from Chiang Mai land office expires this year.

Just a question is it possible to apply in Bangkok even if your residence certificate is an address in Chiang Mai?

At the moment for Thailand it does. A visa does not give you automatic right to enter the country no matter what you might think. Entry is at the discretion of Imm' when you arrive. If they decide you need a ticket out and 20,000 baht and hotel booking then that's what you need. Especially at the moment on any tourist visa.

I have the Elite card/PE visa. What is to stop Immigration from rejecting me for coming to Thailand "too many times", not holding sufficient funds or not having Hotel Bookings (I stay

in my own Condo)? The PE visa IS a tourist visa, with the capriciousness and arbitrary nature of these refusals perhaps I should start carrying the Bht 20.000 cash? Another nuisance.

Entry is at the discretion of the IO but I have never heard of a country that blocks valid visa holders except the US. Not the recent debacle but when  relatively high profile foreign academics

or journalists are suddenly barred entry because the US seeks to silence them, but this is strictly for political reasons.

Does this silly rule also apply to Thailand Elite visa holders?

Yes (Chiang Mai). I have Elite card/ PE Visa and own my Condominium.

I don't think the rule is silly. I think starting enforcing it suddenly without warning

or grace period collecting 1600 baht from all and sundry  is somewhat suspect. It created a chaotic situation last year.

Two people I spoke to directly had to travel to Laso/overseas for new Visa suddenly because their landlords were unavailable

or unwilling to comply at short notice.

Myself working outside Thailand and traveling constantly I don't have any reason to go to Immigration.

I would not have known of the requirement except last year Thailand Elite members were notified by email bulletin.

  4. I have heard people having problems at US Consulates even with new series notes, just because they were partially worn the local banks refuse them.

Italy/ South Asia where many people stashing dollars are now sitting on notes that can only be traded with moneychangers at a steep discount!

Worst case you would have had to bring them back to the US and exchange them at the Treasury Dept. Good on ya' for sticking to your rights.

Travelling to work would be easy if you lived in that tower block and worked in Central Festival shopping center , there are within walking distance of each other

Could one actually walk to Central Festival without getting killed on the Highway or taking a long detour?

Interesting I just used it about  a month ago at BKK.  It was Luis Tavern maybe it changed. I have Priority Pass through a Chase (US) Ritz-Carlton Visa that is $400/yr.

Many airports use the KAL lounge in Asia it seems.

The card gives you a $300/ per year "travel Credit". You can call them and they will reimburse things like buy on board food, bag fees, lounge fees and upgrades.

The other thing gives Gold Member status at Marriott properties. Example I stayed in Hong Kong where the breakfast buffet is almost $50USD

gold members get it free and the evening drinks/food lounge is Members Only. Enough food did not even go out to dinner, and you can bring a guest.

Went to another one in Nagoya where we had about 4 drinks each plus food at the club level. Would have been easy $100 if ordered at the Bar so I'd say it is a good value for $400/yr.

  7. Fortunately the aggressive ladyboy infestation was cleared out of Thapae gate area a few years ago. There have always been such small "bars" on Chaiyaphum/Kotchasarn Roads and lower Moonmuang Sois.

A crackdown on the the periphery before the final and complete shutdown of Loy Khroh itself perhaps?

  8. That's fine but then it's Wiener Schnitzel vom Schwein or nach Wiener Art.  I would not expect to find veal served in a Chiang Mai  buffet but certain dishes are officially recognized as a preparation and labeling it otherwise is not correct. Many people think Wienerschnitzel is a naff fast food restaurant serving hot dogs and burgers.

I flew there a couple years ago. Nice scenery from the air. Tried to rent a motorbike at a couple places, they wanted to hold my passport, wd not accept a photo copy - NO WAY!

Good on ya holding a passport is ILLEGAL. It is the property of your country and only for official uses.

  10. I have been in a situation in Chiang Mai similar where a (French Canadian) man came up to our table in a restaurant asking

"Vere you meet them, how much?" Everyone mortified I ended up having to tell him these ladies are all Doctors and University

professors you have made a gross misunderstanding and should leave.

  11. I made two mistakes as a Noobie. Went to one on Loi Khro road in Chiang Mai refused sex imdediately  found out the woman has no massage skills or intention to give a massage anyway so the whole endeavour was a waste of time and left .Avoid private room unless it is a pricy "Spa". Usually "Thai Traditional Massage" is OK. other than this one place where the masseuse was nagging for giving a "Happy Ending" so much it became uncomfortable as she pouted and complained, Why would somebody want to get milked like a cow by some Grandma anyway?

Some guys demand sex at legit places and cause problems too. A place in BKK I know shows any "lads" who show up a laminated card explaining what their services are and you will be booted if you ask for anything else!

  12. Driving at night with headlights off.

Whenever I pour cement I don't block it off until it sets so dogs and people can tread in it.

12 years later I still don't bother to redo it so we have tracks like Dinosaur footprints to admire.

  13. As I was departing a popular gastropub type place today. Saw a small black plastic cube with an LED light on it sitting on a shelf between some knick knacks.

I absently middle picked it up what is this a speaker, no it's has a camera lens! I  put it down and this guy rushes from way across the room who is at a table by himself apparently,

saying "Hey thats mine" ( UK type accent, not sure). I just said sorry it just caught my eye.  Then I left realizing this goon is  underhandedly setting up a camera filming the place.

I looked it up it is something like a go pro Hero / Polaroid Cube/same same but different.  By the way in my country (US) you have no expectation of privacy in a public place

and people can  record anything they want. On private property the owner/management could ban filming or ask you to leave. Just seems a strange thing to do.

  14. Anyone who knows they have a fatal or permanent STD should be required by law to  disclose that to partners

prior to hooking up with them under penalty of Attempted Murder or Felony Assault.

Better yet why doesn't everybody begin by going to the Hospital together for a round of tests, make a date out of it .

Then agree to stay exclusive until no longer interested. STDs eliminated immediately.

  15. Just ignorance. Probably if a nice Thai person just could say "Here's the problem and why not respect our culture?"  The rider would be very apologetic.

And yeah I used to be a kid riding skateboards (gnash gnarl grind very destructive even to reinforced concrete) and riding rudely on MTB trails shared by hikers. I grew up
