  1. There's been 4 Isaan farmer gatherings, and a few beers haven't made them wrong!

All though I'm not much of a party guy or beer drinker, I'll go anytime, anywhere to meet some likeminded people - if the Singha is cold and readily available! biggrin.png

  2. OK guys i 'am good for it, but accomidation in is a problem, as are bars after. Tronds place is the closest to me, If you are happy to camp for the night, drink and have a BBQ,OK . Can look at minibus and a driver. [ AKs are extra] jim

June should be OK with me. I know there are a couple of "resorts" in Nacha Luai.

Are you sure there are no newish short time resorts in Buntharik Jim, they seem to grow up everywhere?

Local karaokes with police escort will do the after bar thing for me! biggrin.png

  3. -we bestowed on them? come on. A rural population (John Lennon: " you're all plucking pheasants as far as I can see...") has no concept of environmental issues if not educated. For centuries they have been throwing their organic stuff out letting it decompose naturally, no prob. usually. I have problems with the fact that these guys claim to be proud of Thailand and then take every opportunity of junking it (not just plastic, resorts in National Parks, flooding National Parks, rant rant..).

Just to round things off, if I arrive at a remote Swiss mountain top and find it strewn with chip packets and Cola tins, I assume that English tourists have passed through recently. This was a family joke, until I actually witnessed it being done and met with mild insults when I suggested they take it back with them.

    Which top was it? rolleyes.gif

  4. Not sure why anyone would build a house for a girlfriend. Would you build a house for a girlfriend in your home country?

A 2,000,000 baht house in Ubon will rent for a maximum of 10,000 baht (probably 6,000 baht) and only if it has 3 air conditioners and hot showers and a place to secure your car. You could rent that house for ten years and only pay 1,200,000 baht in those ten years (200,000 baht less if you paid 100,000 baht yearly upfront).

Even if you're married to her, at least knock her up (DNA test) and create an heir before you take the 3rd world real estate dive.

Remember; she is with you for her and her familys financial stability and your with her because you can't get a hot chick half your age in your home country.

It's a fair trade we all make. Just cover yourself a bit.

If the buying the house in her name thang is a prerequisite for her to agree continuing or advancing your relationship then walk away. You can get 1,250 soapys for two million baht. 900 rounds of golf. Damawho every day for 270 years. 2/3 rds of a 3.5 litre Toyota Camry sold in Thailand or 3 of the same model sold in America.

sounds like another one been burnt before and venting .........

Indeed, but just let the "negatives" cry, and the rest of us can enjoy our life here! biggrin.png

  5. A guy I met said this was the best town in Thailand.

Did he give you any reasons for it being the best city in Thailand?

I live there and I dont think its the best city in Thailand for anything. Im still trying to find the positives here.

It most probably isn't the best city in Thailand - who the hell can judge?

But I, and quite a few other expats, like living here; we apparently have found some positives, so we don't care about its status.

    Elwood

    Positives such as...

Lots of good food - in lots of restaurants

    Plenty cold beer everywhere

    Moon/Mun river - Mekong river

    Kong Chiam - Pha Thaem

    Ratchathani Asoke

    Huai Luang waterfall

    Sirindorn dam

Beautiful National parks all along the border areas

    Genuine nice people

    Lots of nice farangs

Airport with direct flights to Bkk, Chiang Mai, Phuket

Train station with everyday trains to Bkk, and all cities in between

Lots of new developments which increases the options for things to see and do

    Laos and Cambodia "nearby"

    I'll have a break now! coffee1.gif

  6. Ubon's largest and government hospital. Now what was the name again?

From outside the main entrance, go west and you will eventually end up at the ring road.

I wonder if this helps? coffee1.gif

I may be incorrect, but if you go "east" I believe you end up at the ring road aswellgiggle.gif

Yes Patriot you are correct, but then you would have to leave the mystery road, and end up far away from the in the future not so central Central. laugh.png

  8. Hm. I'm Scandinavian, and I and every other Scandic I know love spicy food. I think you got your facts wrong there JT.

OK, if you say so but I don't really believe you, sorry. In any case, your national cuisines are not highly spiced, either with spices or heat. Unless you count ... dill. rolleyes.gif My only experience is both traveling there and observing what Scandinavians eat in Thailand. Never seen one order Thai food spicy ... ever. There is no right or wrong on such matters, but why pursue an assertion these countries are hot and spicy loving countries, when they clearly ... aren't? It seems silly. BTW, I also think as a generalization French people are not into hot and spicy either.

    For example, Sweden:

what about us brits !, we love spicy food, even invented the Vidaloo !

Yes you're a bunch of bloody curry heads!

Ever try a Norwegian curry sauce? I have. It was a Scoville -1000.

I love spicy food, but I'm from an extraordinary place between the British isles and Norwegian mainland! whistling.gif

  11. Got my 5 year in Ubon. No test just provided old 1 year license, doctors report, proof of residence, passport. Think that was all. My mrs got hers there but had to watch a video on how to drive on the wrong side of the road with out killing herself. cowboy.gif

Yes no problem - bring your current driving licence, letter from immigration, medical attest, and possible Tabien Baan (yellow book)

If have a yellow book (proof of residence), I assume no letter from immigration is required or does one show the yellow book to immigration for their letter ?.

Letter from immigration is needed for any driving licence. The yellow book is needed to get a 5 year licence, - at least that was the requirements for me last time in Det Udom. biggrin.png

both amongst the local thais, and many of the farang ATM,S aint what they used to be .

but them chinese would rather put their money into buildings , than in the banks .

    NEE OW jap.gif

So you passed the cinema which you 2 times says is in Udon and decides that there is a lack of wealthy Thais and foreigners in Ubon? Well done! coffee1.gif
