  1. Bergen, I want to get in touch with Helmet. He was the German Gentleman from Australia. I think he came from Ubon. He only stayed for the Saturday and I have a feeling he had not booked in anywhere. Would apreciate it if any of you have hais mobile number or email address. Helmet if you read this please get in touch with me. David

I don't have his contact info, but I'll get it if I meet him! biggrin.png

  2. Well I would also like to thank Bergen for being such a fine host,Tony for his hands on demonstration, Bob for his humour and cooking lessons, Thai Visa for supporting these information sharing meetings and all the members that came from near and far to be part of the experience. Thank you all.

Thanks for nice comments, and your contribution as well. Looking forward to meeting you again! biggrin.png

  3. Bergen.

What can I say that hasn't already been said!!

    You entertained us all royally.

As has been said "Thank you" so much for being such a wonderful host. How you cooked that superb lunch when you had Grimley Bob making those delicious pork pies beside you was an amazing achievement as I would have been totally distracted. Maybe the 2 of you should start a Cooks Meeting as I would be very happy to come as a taster!!

Fascinated to see round your lovely resort surounded by the mixed farm and in such a beautiful area. Much looked forward to coming and having another break with you there.

    Finally

What an amazing group of 'farmers' collected together with you. Great discussions, great company who ALL got on so well as did the wives/partners too, great bbq in the evening and next morning most of us discovered on waking how well the drink also flowed!!!

Thanks so much for everything. 11 out of 10!!!!

Thanks for nice words Anthony! Had a great time with you as always!

Also thanks to Thaivisa for bringing us together and being of great help in meeting and connecting with lots of good people. biggrin.png

And a special thanks to George - Thaivisa for his unexpected sponsoring of the beer!

    Much appreciated!! thumbsup.gif

  4. Thanks very much for a warm welcome Bergen. As said above, it was unusual to see so many farangs together in one place. Contacts were made and information freely exchanged, probably saving us all many baht! .Think we will all be at the Roi et gathering. Unfortunately had to leave early due to the unforeseen.IA's bacon was the bogs dollocks btw. The 3 Aussies and 2 Brits from KK

Good to meet all of you, and looking forward to seeing you again at the next meet! thumbsup.gif

  5. Thanks everyone for a great meeting. Best weekend I have had for a long time. Thanks for your freiendship and the warmth shown towards me. First time I have seen 30 Farangs together without having to go to Nana Plaza or somewhere the same in Pataya. Looking forward to joining you all again in the future. Special Thanks to Bergen. Great job done mate.clap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gif

Thanks for the kind words David. Will keep in touch and see you in a while! biggrin.png

  6. by the way, whats the average dowry and what is considered reasonable as support?

You didn't state your age and her age which is relevant to the asking price.

50kbht for sinsot (dowry is what is paid when womans parent pay man)

4kbht a month for the parents

That is what you pay for an uneducated farm girls, unless you are completely daft.

Better to make higher monthly payments and lower lump sums, as they don't give refunds if it doesn't work out.

There are no such ting as fixed prices involved.

Most people I know paid nothing, and I didn't either.

It will depend on a variety of things from case to case............

  7. Just got home, Good meeting well organised by Bergen - congratulations and thanks. Nice to see so many new faces.

Next meeting on SUNDAY 8 April 2012 (to avoid clashing with Ubon Hash & Songkran) at our place:- Penn Worm Farm in Roi Et, which is within 7km of Roi Et city centre. I'll start a new thread in a couple of days or so with details and location etc.

    WF

Enjoyed you and your mrs. company once again WF.

Looking forward to the next meet! biggrin.png

  8. How old is the girl?

    Does she have any children?

Does she have sisters or brothers - do they have any relations or previous experience with farangs?

How does your friend and his wife live - do they have a nice mansion or just a modest house?

Have they bought a nice car and motorbikes?

Are your friend's wife's family well off now - how high expectations have been created?

How old are you - are you rich - do you flash money around?

All this and much more will be considered by the parts involved. wink.png

  9. Hi all,

I will be leaving Rayong shortly. If there is a room, please keep for me. If not, see you all tomorrow. Looking forward to it.

Will try to reserve a room for you!

and looking forward to seeing you! biggrin.png

hope you still have a room for us. On the way there now

Got a room for you Baz, and Grimley has arrived already!! biggrin.png

  10. It's easy enough to find.

Travel south on Jomtien Beach road, and when you pass Soi 9, travel about 300 metres. Rimhat Jomtien Beach Condo is on your left (beside a family mart).

Go in there past security. The first building on your left is S1 and the second is S2, which is the location of the resto.

    It's beside the bike park.

  11. ok , i am convinced, i will drive to Bangkok for the 51 baht breakfast........

Try to bargain them back down to 49 baht. 51 baht is a travesty. w00t.gif

Yeah, 'cause that includes only 1 strip of bacon with those 2 eggs. 51 baht calls for 2 strips.

dam_n ! only one strip? thats not worth the 2 hour drive from pattaya.....

Oh come on.........it's healthier with only one strip. whistling.gif

  12. Used to like the Yakisoba and Pad Thai in there, also a second vote for the Mackerel steak. Tried the Butchers 5 sausages once and although the 5 sausages all looked different, they tasted the same.

Always found the one at Sukhumvit Soi 5 tastier.

Totally agree. The same menu but different flavours. Have not been for a while but it is a bargain. Took Lae DEE Bangkok is better.

    Yes agree.......biggrin.png

  13. Has anybody any experience with Phibun Immigration office regarding extension of stay based on married to thai? Reason i ask is that i now have visa based on retirement but now when i got married i like to reply for extension based on married to thai (400 000 baht vs 800 000 baht). No i read somewere that the immigration office has to come to your home to interwiev your neigbours to check if you realy live together with your wife. Thats not a problem, but what i am afraid the neigbours will tell them is that i work alot on the farm. They call me workaholic here because they se meg go to the farm offen. I dont work much, but sometimes i help a little bitt at the farm and now i worried that this can get me into trouble. Anybody experience if Phibon immigration make you a home visit?

They've never visited me in 8 years, and never done an interview. The want 3 photos of me and the wife, one photo of our house, and a map that shows where to find us. When we've brought extra back up papers from Puyai Baan, or local district office - the didn't want it.

Of course it could all be different next time.violin.gif

  14. Throughout this thread MeMock has done nothing more than, along with the OP, express concern over the welfare of two foreign children in our community, two children who are, apparently, not brought up or cared for in the correct manner - be it Thai or Farang.

I personally applaud the fact that someone is out there who is prepared not just to keep his head in the sand but to address an issue of this nature which is exactly the purpose of an expat forum, not just immigration policies or availability of Cumberland sausages in Robinsons.
