  1. To the OP, i'm really interested in Mongolia (although i've never been there) and what its like as a place to live as an expat, how its changing now and what it might be like in a few years. So when you find a regular place to drink let me know and i'll meet you there - the drinks are on me.

It'd be my pleasure smile.png Send me a message whenever you're free for a beer and we'll sort something out.

    Aah.........free beers burp.gifbiggrin.png

  2. The area's called Pig Gut in Thai by the locals because of the shape it makes on a map, but it's divided up into a few areas from what I gather - Bang Krachao seems to be the Northern and Eastern End, Bang Nam Pheung the South Central side and so on. Still, I've never seen the legal designations on a map and the best way to get around is just to know which wat or main soi something is near. There's been massive development in specifically the last 2-3 years, as something changed (perhaps the scandal mentioned above). There are big new roads, tons of new 2-3 story homes, new apartment buildings and so on.

    >>snip<<

Now that is what I call local knowledge. Superb.

    Agreed! thumbsup.gifbiggrin.png

  3. You have two harvest?

Rather rare for Isaan....though, there are areas in the region that can comply.

We are very lucky to be on the junction of two irrigation canals, originating from the Lam Pao Dam

  4. You ask if it's OK for 5 people walk into a restaurant, bring their own beer, order 2 bowls of noodles, stay and party all night?

Yes, Paul, that's almost word for word what my question looks like when read through a pair of 'it's too early to read questions properly, so let's just leave a sardonic reply' glasses. Thanks for playing tongue.png

I would say, don't go on holiday if you are going to act like that.

It irks me when people fly half way around the world then act broke when they get there.

  5. Mahasarakham or Siasaket are nice.

    Check them out.

how would Sirin compare with Sisaket?

Surin has much more to offer. rolleyes.gif

I recommend Ubon Ratchathani, with Moon (Mun) river running through, and the Mekong "half an hour" away. Border crossings to Laos and Cambodia within easy reach.

Airport with direct flights to Bkk, Phuket and Chiang Mai.

Beautiful national parks along the borders, very friendly people around and good food everywhere. biggrin.png

  9. Hi Bergen. I'm also a newbie. I contacted someone after the last meeting to say I would come. My house is in Kantharalak so I am not far from you. I am not a heavy drinker but have an ocational 1 or 2 or 3 every now and then. I am interested in worn farming and aquaponics. Book me in a single room either at your place or the establishment up the road. Leave it for you to decide. Looking forward to meeting everyone. I am in BKK at the moment but should be back at my house in a week or two. David

  10. Hi Bergen,

Thanks for the invite. I (plus Ting) would love to come on the 11th. As we unfortunately have to go to that hell hole of Bangkok for the weekend before so it will make it even more of a pleasure to meet up with you and the others in the peace and quiet (as long as we don't need the bomb shelters!!) in an area of Isaan we have not been to before and see all you have bulit up there.

Please book us one of your lovely rooms (with a large bed) for the night of the 11th. and much look forward to seeing you again that morning.

    AA1.

Looking forward to seeing you and the mrs. Anthony.

Will reserve a room for you! biggrin.png

  11. Hello Bergen,

    I'm a newbie here.

And I'm not farming yet. But hope to be Moved into the new house by no later than July in a small village near Renu Nakhon. I'm hoping that it would be alright for a new comer who isn't farming yet to come to this event. I would definetly like to talk to others who have had success farming in Isaan.

    Thank you,

    RichardNRenu

    You are very welcome Richard.

This is an event for people who wants to meet other people, and share thoughts and interests! biggrin.png

  12. Simple question: where to get Coke Zero or Diet Coke?

TV posters answers: Drink water, drink fruit juice, why drink that crap anyways....

    A bunch of smart@sses, aren't we?

    I am diabethic, f.e.!

    Fruit juice: not good!

    Water: boring ALL the time!

Ingrediences in Diet Coke harmfull...maybe...in the future: well...I have the choice of dieing tomorrow, with high blood sugar ....or maybe in 30 years with cancer!

I guess, I take my chances!

Thanks for the concern and now: where do I find Coke Zero, Pepsi Max or Diet Coke again???

  13. Welcome all to the 3. Isaan Farmers Idea exchange gathering.

The meeting is not only for professional farmers, (most of us are far from) but for anyone who are curious about, and enjoy the nature, whether it's animals, trees, flowers, veggies, grass, herbs or just the fresh air!

As I am appointed the humble host of the meeting, - I'm happy to provide you all with some basic info!

  14. Disagree zzaa09

I have found that the internet in Thailand has worked more often and at greater speed consistency then they ever did back in Australia. Their prices are also 1/3 of what I used to pay. Thai internet is the ducks nucks and the bees knees as far as I am concerned.

An Oz friend recently made a trip home and he too said that the service here was far better and cheaper than in Australia. My 3B service in Ubon is extremely reliable too.

Bees knees I know, but "ducks nucks"? That's a new one on me!

  15. Baht bus is b5, right? I read that far ants get charged 10baht, but I'm happy to hand the driver the proper amount then walk away....but I want to make sure 5baht is the proper amount.

    10 baht is the charge.

Centara Grand Hotel is not on a baht bus route.

Yes, it is - I have used it several times, although they don't run as frequently as on the main routes. Some of them go up Naklua 18 to the Naklua Road, then turn right toward Dolphin Circle; others continue along the roads closest to the sea and then turn left on the road which runs alongside the Dusit Thani, again ending up at the Dolphin Circle. Either way, some continue onto Beach Road, while others head east on Pattaya North, which necessitates a change if one is headed towards Walking Street.

That being said, it is far easier to take a taxi or hire a baht bus as a taxi from directly in front of the hotel. If you can afford the Centara, a 200 baht taxi should not be a concern.

    Exactly! wink.png
