  2. In a TikTok clip that looks like a sequel to the movie Castaway, a group of Thai tourists on a fishing trip found a foreigner floating on a makeshift wooden raft in the middle of the sea off the coast of Koh Kood in Trat province, eastern Thailand, yesterday. The woman who filmed the clip chartered a boat to go out fishing for squid when she and her friends spotted a wooden raft floating in the middle of the sea. As she got closer, she noticed luggage on the raft, and then she spotted a man. The TikToker wrote a message, “Where are you going to float?” Balanced on the raft with his belongings, the floating farang didn’t appear to be in any trouble or danger. In fact, he looked extremely relaxed. The foreign man allegedly made the raft himself from palm trees. The Thai boat operators were concerned for the farang’s safety as they said a storm was coming and if he didn’t make it back to shore, he possibly wouldn’t survive. Then, another boat with marines on board arrives and pulls the raft back to shore, along with the foreigner and his luggage, as seen in the clip… Full Story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/castaway-farang-rescued-from-thailands-waters-video -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-04-18 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. 4. A Thai woman in the Isaan province of Chaiyaphum claims that her Finnish husband was attacked by more than 10 neighbours on April 14. The neighbours admitted to attacking the foreign man but insisted that they did so because he insulted them and the Thai people first. A 40 year old Thai woman named Aoy took to social media to share the story and seek justice for her and her Finnish husband, Jarae. Aoy said the incident happened during Songkran Festival on Friday, April 14 when she and Jarae went to a local grocery shop to buy alcohol. The shop’s owners were celebrating outside of their store. Jarae, who neither speaks nor understands Thai, did not engage with anyone. However, Oh, the female shop owner, expressed her displeasure with Jarae and stated that she did not like him. Aoy reported that she and her husband were unaware of why the shop owner was unhappy with them. However, she suggested that Jarae’s loud speaking might have been misinterpreted as anger directed towards them. Aoy said Oh abruptly struck her husband with a wooden stick and then requested others at the gathering to join in on the attack. Chaos erupted, and Aoy noticed that one of the attackers had a knife. Despite her efforts to contain the situation, Aoy was unsuccessful. Finally, she managed to contact the nearby hospital’s emergency team to rescue her husband. 6. BANGKOK (NNT) - The two-day Wan Lai festival in Chonburi province, which began on Sunday (16 Apr), concluded on Monday (17 Apr). The atmosphere at Bang Saen Beach was reported to be lively, with many people coming out to enjoy the water and build sand sculptures. Various organizations participated in the activities, including schools, universities, government agencies, private businesses and local residents, many who brought their own sand to contribute to the building of sand pagodas. This year’s Wan Lai Bang Saen festival aimed to promote the beauty and creativity of Songkran, while also featuring a sand sculpture competition. Every year, many locals and tourists observe the building of the sand pagodas and participate in various activities, including traditional Thai games, and visit food and souvenir stalls. However, due to the large number of water trucks at Bang Saen Beach, traffic jams reportedly stretched for more than two kilometers along Sukhumvit Road and down to other nearby routes. To ensure safety and order, officials prohibited water trucks from entering Bang Saen Beach and redirected them to Sukhumvit Road. The authorities also advised people to play respectfully and not to use high-pressure water guns. 8. BANGKOK (NNT) - The Thai Ministry of Commerce is taking urgent action to provide solutions for private sector challenges related to exports to China, as it seeks to expand Thai product shipments to the world’s second largest economy by at least 1%. The ministry recently hosted a meeting with representatives from seven foreign trade offices and other prominent Thai private sector companies in the Chinese city of Kunming in Yunnan Province in late March. The meeting focused on planning market expansion and investment opportunities in China, setting a target for exporting Thai products worth no less than US$34 billion, or generating revenue of over 1.2 trillion baht. The commerce ministry also gave instructions to its commercial attaches to intensify the promotion of Thai goods through modern trade platforms, expand the market, and promote Thai cuisine. The private sector was also encouraged to take advantage of increasing opportunities in Chinese markets, such as trade fairs. In addition, the ministry emphasized its strategy of supporting the private sector to help overcome trade obstacles in mainland China, especially during the upcoming harvest season for fruit products. It also urged the private sector to prepare for potential issues that could arise at border checkpoints. Furthermore, activities will be implemented to penetrate the halal product market in China. This would build on the success of the three limited free trade agreements (mini FTAs) that Thailand established in major Chinese cities such as Guangzhou and Chengdu. Although laboratory findings show that the XBB.1.16 sub-variant spreads slightly faster than XBB.1.5, he said that it will take at least two more weeks to determine whether XBB.1.16 is capable of spreading faster. The most common symptoms associated with XBB.1.16 sub-variant infection include a cough, fever and a sore throat, with some patients also suffering eye infection or irritation, said Dr. Supakit, as he dismissed the suggestion that XBB.1.16 is as potent as the Delta variant. 24. Photo via Facebook/ ตระเวนข่าว3 A Thai man filed a complaint with the police after he was conned into buying old lottery tickets by a vendor in Samut Prakarn province near Bangkok and lost a 10,000 baht lottery prize. The 66 year old lottery winner, or loser, Thanapon Thongchaiya, filed a complaint at Phra Pradaeng Police Station yesterday. Thanapon told police that he bought seven lottery tickets and all of them won the two-digit prize, number 71, which was announced yesterday, April 16. Unfortunately, he could only claim two prizes because the other five were from the April 1 lottery result. As a result, he lost the 10,000 baht prize and also the money he had paid for the lottery tickets. Thanapon revealed that he bought the tickets from a shop in front of Siam Commercial Bank near Phra Pradaeng Market in Samut Prakarn province. The seller was a woman aged around 30 to 35 years old. The tickets were sold in a set, packed in a plastic bag. The first two tickets on the set were for April 16, but the rest were not. Thanapon expressed his disappointment. He said… “I did not recheck the tickets before leaving the shop. I can remember the identity of the seller. She is a woman aged about 30 years old. I felt sad but I have to admit it. I do not know whether she intended to do this or not. Beware and check the tickets carefully everyone.” Full Story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/thai-man-loses-10000-baht-in-lottery-after-being-conned-into-buying-old-tickets -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-04-17 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m.
