Image via Amy Jones | WFFT A baby bright orange langur monkey is now safe at a Thai wildlife rescue centre after being found abandoned by his family in the wild in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, southern Thailand. Estimated to be less than one month old, the infant was found lost and all alone in a rubber plantation. He was abandoned after his family were scared away, but fortunately, a quick-thinking farmer discovered the animal and called a nearby wildlife rescue centre for help. The vet team at Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand (WFFT) took the baby langur into their care, where the animal was given a medical check-up at the foundation’s onsite wildlife hospital. Named Plango, after the tropical orange fruit that bears a similar colour to his bright fur, he was found to be in generally good health. But at such a young age he still requires specialist medical care. This includes work from WFFT’s vet nurse Git, who woke up every two hours throughout the night to feed Plango when he first arrived. Photo via Facebook/ อยากดังเดี๋ยวจัดให้ รีเทริน์ part 6 Thai netizens condemned a Bangkok taxi driver for ripping off two foreign tourists. The driver was caught on a viral video charging the tourists 700 baht for about a 7 kilometre trip which was considered almost seven times more expensive than the standard fare. On Saturday, April 15, the Facebook page called Let Me Know If You Wanna Be Famous Return Part 6 (อยากดังเดี๋ยวจัดให้ รีเทริน์ part 6) posted a video capturing the moment when two foreign women were travelling by taxi in Bangkok. The caption stated… “A page follower found this video and sent it to me. Songkran is the golden time for taxi drivers. The follower told me that he watched a livestream of these two foreign tourists while they were travelling in Thailand during the Songkran Festival. They took a taxi from SO/ Bangkok Hotel to Asiatique the Riverfront. It should be less than 10 kilometres, but the driver asked for 700 baht fares. This is 10 times more expensive than the standard fare.” In the video, the two foreign women are seen getting into the yellow-green taxi in front of the SO/ Bangkok Hotel. After the driver learned that the destination was Asiatique the Riverfront, he said… “It’s 700 baht because of the traffic.” The tourists were shocked by the price and urged the driver to turn the meter on but the driver refused. He said… “No, no. It’s traffic. 700 baht.” Full Story: https://thethaiger.com/news/national/bangkok-taxi-driver-condemned-for-ripping-off-foreign-tourists -- © Copyright Thaiger 2023-04-17 - Cigna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. According to a Nation Thailand report, the Orcas were sighted about 10 minutes off the coast. The tourists were on a boat trip in Phang Nga’s Mu Ko Similan National Park when they spotted the creatures frolicking in the water. The president of the Phang Nga Tourism Association, Lerdsak Pongklin, says their tour guide described his guests as “thrilled” as they watched the Orcas swim near their boat for about 10 minutes. The Orca is the largest member of the dolphin family and is considered an apex predator, meaning it has no predators. Orcas are about 6 metres in length, weigh over a tonne, and are easily recognisable by their white and black bodies. A total of 25,100 Thai men, from diverse backgrounds such as monks and those holding Master’s degrees, applied for voluntary enlistment in the Royal Thai Army yesterday, according to deputy army spokesperson Maj. Gen. Sirichan Ngathong. The annual military conscription took a short break during the Songkran Festival and resumed yesterday. The draft is set to continue until Thursday in the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Army regions, with 10-20% of the process remaining. Meanwhile, the draft has concluded in the 3rd Army Region. Maj. Gen. Sirichan reported that as of Sunday night, 25,100 young men had applied for voluntary enlistment, revealing some interesting trends in the education levels of the conscripts during the conscription period from April 1-12: 22 voluntary conscripts held a bachelor’s degree. By applying for enlistment, they waived their right to reduce their time in military service from two years to six months and showed an intention to complete the full two-year service. 19 bachelor’s degree holders who went through the draft process drew a red card, which indicated they were conscripted. Instead of seeking to reduce their time from two years to one, they waived the right and volunteered to complete two-year services. Chinese Tourists Celebrate Return of Songkran Water Splashing Activities BANGKOK (NNT) - After years of "dry" Songkran events, Thailand has finally seen a complete revival of its traditional New Year celebration activities, including the popular water fights enjoyed by tourists worldwide. Full Story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1292332-chinese-tourists-celebrate-return-of-songkran-water-splashing-activities/ -
BANGKOK (NNT) - After years of "dry" Songkran events, Thailand has finally seen a complete revival of its traditional New Year celebration activities, including the popular water fights enjoyed by tourists worldwide. From Thursday through Saturday (13-15 Apr), Thailand transformed into a massive playground for both locals and visitors, as people flooded the streets armed with water guns and buckets, soaking everyone in their path. On the first day of Songkran, the famous shopping district of Siam Square in Bangkok was packed with people, including many Chinese tourists. Dressed in bright floral shirts, Chinese tourists immersed themselves in the festive Songkran atmosphere by chasing and frolicking around in the crowds. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), Thailand has seen a significant increase in Chinese tourists, with 269,745 in March alone, a 70% increase from February, and over 8,000 daily arrivals in the first four days of April. For tourists, there was nothing quite like a vigorous and exhilarating water fight and splashing around to cool down during the scorching Thai summer heat. Silom Road, not far from Siam Square, was reportedly packed with people, and the cheers and screams could be heard from hundreds of meters away. Due to the growing demand from the Chinese market, the TAT has revamped its target for Chinese tourist arrivals from 5 million to 9 million for this year. As part of the Songkran festival, the authority arranged a special caravan tour for Chinese tourists. According to TAT Deputy Governor Chattan Kunjara Na Ayudhya, 1,200 Chinese tourists drove 400 caravans from the north into Thailand to participate in the festival celebrations. Thai Private Sector Upbeat on China-Laos Railway Service BANGKOK (NNT) - The recent launching of cross-border passenger services on the China-Laos Railway on the occasion of the most important festival for Thailand and Laos has boosted the local tourism scene as it recovers from the pandemic. BANGKOK (NNT) - The recent launching of cross-border passenger services on the China-Laos Railway on the occasion of the most important festival for Thailand and Laos has boosted the local tourism scene as it recovers from the pandemic. Thailand’s northeast province of Nong Khai celebrated the Songkran festival with neighboring Laos across the Mekong River since cross-border passenger services of the China-Laos Railway began on Thursday (13 Apr). Jiranun Sakultangphaisal, an advisor to the tourism association of Nong Khai, said many tourists would stay overnight in the Thai northeast province before traveling to the Laotian capital of Vientiane - some 20 km away. Monnipa Kovitsirikul, Chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce for Nong Khai, said she hoped that Chinese tourists who arrive in Laos would travel further to tour Nong Khai and Thailand’s wider northeast region. Monnipa said many business sectors in Nong Khai have benefited from the operation of the China-Laos Railway, which has increased employment and brought new opportunities for the local business community. She has also seen new investment from within Thailand into Nong Khai and stepped up efforts by the Thai government to upgrade local infrastructure. The China-Laos Railway has also provided a major transport route for Thailand to access the vast Chinese market. In the past, the transport of goods between China, Laos and Thailand had to take longer due to poor road conditions. The China-Laos Railway has cut travel time down to around 10 hours, facilitating the transport of the goods such as fruits which require speedy delivery. For Jiranun, the tourism association advisor, the China-Laos Railway is also a road of friendship that links Thailand, China and Laos even closer by increasing connectivity and people-to-people exchanges. She said more exchanges would facilitate greater understanding, which would in turn facilitate increased cooperation.
