BANGKOK (NNT) - A high volume of road traffic is expected this long weekend starting from Thursday. The Department of Land Transport is asking logistics firms to limit their operations during this period to help ease congestion on the road. Mr. Seksom Akaraphan, Deputy Director General of the Department of Land Transport, said more people are expected to travel this long weekend, and has therefore asked logistics companies to scale down their operations on 13-16 October. If necessary, the operators can run trucks during this period, but they need to make sure that their vehicles and parts are in good condition, and that the drivers are well-rested and sober while on duty. Drivers are reminded to drive carefully, strictly adhere to the speed limits, avoid stopping on road shoulders, and stay in the leftmost lane. In their petition letter to the telecom regulator, True and DTAC said that their merger plan was submitted to the regulator about nine months ago for review, but there is still no decision which, they noted, should not have taken more than three months to reach. The two companies also claimed that the delay by the NBTC has affected their subscribers, because they are unable to access their each other’s networks. A section of the DT 622 highway running through Quang Ngai Province is blocked due to erosion, October 11, 2022. Photo by VnExpress/Dong Huyen A total 20,000 people in central Vietnam's Quang Ngai Province have been isolated after a landslide cut off a highway and buried generators at a hydropower plant Tuesday. Part of a hill got eroded, sending soil and rubble down the DT 622B highway section running through Tra Lam Commune of Tra Bong District on Tuesday morning, blocking traffic. As the route connects downtown Tra Bong with six other communes in the district, a blockage means 20,000 people got isolated. Authorities have deployed vehicles and dozens of soldiers to remove the rubble and restore traffic, he added. STAR / Edd Gumban MANILA, Philippines (Update 3, 4:54p.m.) — Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri claimed Tuesday that China has placed the Philippines in a tourism blacklist over the continued operations of offshore gaming operators in the country, which Beijing’s embassy in Manila denied. Zubiri said during a Senate inquiry on the costs and benefits of Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs) that Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian disclosed this to him in a meeting with other senators on Monday. “Ambassador Huang said that the Philippines now is part of a blacklist of tourist sites because they do not know if the tourist going there will be joining POGO operations and they do not know if their nationals who go to the Philippines will be safe from illegal activities done by the Triad, by the syndicates operating POGO,” Zubiri said.
