The freedom to move: how Bangkok is improving its sidewalks
Dionigi replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
I remember, 30 years ago, police arresting chairs and tables on Pattaya pavements, they were all back within a week. Unless a concerted and prolonged effort is used nothing will ever change. Maybe huge taxes for businesses using the pavements will help the situation. -

Ironic that it was invented by a brit for safety reasons -
This has been happening for years in Thailand. body wash in pump action bottles are 500ml, then the quantity drops to 450 and the price stays the same, then the packaging size drops but the contents remain the same then the new size comes out with 500ml at a higher price and so it begins again. Even worse are the large supermarkets which bundle 3 packs pf something together and charge more that 3 times the price. Selling 2 for the price of one (buy one get one free)should just tell you never to buy the single as it is overpriced but Thais love anything free. My wife will buy stuff she doesn't want just because she can get something free.

plus the Maastricht treaty was pointing the way to total unity of europe. One armed forces, one governing body with countries parliaments being relegated to the level of county councils. I did not get chance to vote but would have voted leave and still would, given the chance. Incompetent leaders is the problem, only incompetents are on offer for your vote, politicians and not leaders. There is only a veneer of democracy when you are offered a choice between a or b and both a and b are going to follow the party line. That is the same choice given in communist elections. Worse still in the uk the prime minister is not elected by the public but by his party, now that really is democracy gone wrong. Screaming Lord Sutch and his monster raving loony party probably put forward some of the best legislation in the uk.

Thailand’s firearm frenzy: Tops ASEAN in guns, 13th in global tragedy
Dionigi replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
according to https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/gun-deaths-by-country Philippines has 7.9/100,000 , Thailand has 3.1/100 000 and Australia 0.91/100,000 So I guess the gun control laws do seem to have an effect on the number of gun deaths. -
It has already been quoted they are lane markers to show straight on, left turn and right turn same as most other places in the world.

We all know that major companies get away with paying no income tax what ever country they operate in. The tax rules are made with loopholes that these companies use to ensure that there are no liabilities for their tax. Invest in these companies that operate in one country but are registered in a tax haven and you have no taxation. It is this money which can then be brought back to Thailand which, at present, has no taxation. I'm talking major money not Joe Averages small investments.

I think that the expat angle is being exploited by the media writing for the English speaking market. This will not affect most expats as they come under the agreement not to double tax income. This is aimed at Thais who have investments abroad and pay no tax in the country where the income is generated and have got away with not paying tax here due to the tax rules that allow such income to be tax free.

They store the venomous nematacysts of the Portuguese man of war and other venomous jellyfish that they eat. Their sting can be more powerful than the Portuguese man of war. Wouldn't want to try eating one raw or cooked.

Does crashing birthrate and aging society spell doom for Thailand?
Dionigi replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
https://wisevoter.com/country-rankings/median-age-by-country/#thailand ranks Thailand as 167th down and gives it a median age rating of 18 with 1.54 fertility rate. Monaco has a median age of 42 and the Isle of man is next with 38. Asa the pbs article said over a century ago Thai women gave birth to an average of 5 children. I suspect same as the Uk over a century ago most did not reach the age of 5.
