Is there still any product the Chinese haven't stolen/copied/back-engineered yet? I'm surprised they seem to have so much difficulty copying that MTU engine.

I recall that classical story of a U.S. manufacturer (and copyright owner) of a particular communications chipset filing an international lawsuit against a Chinese company a couple of decades ago for having stolen their design and flooding the market with dirt cheap copies of the chipset.

The plaintiff showed the court that even the English-language technical information leaflet the Chinese supplied with their copies featured EXAC TLY THE SAME word misspellings the original manufacturer had deliberately scattered throughout the text.

But the Chinese company's lawyers argued that those exact same misspellings had appeared "by sheer coincidence" and were therefore NOT admissible as proof that their client had stolen and copied the design.

    The court dismissed the case.

    which court was this ?

It has to better than getting blasted with spray guns buckets of water plus powder and paste ????

Sounds a  more sensible way to Celebrate to me anyway ????

I enjoyed the spray guns, powder and paste. It was fun - and refreshing break from the heat.  Why bother coming to Thailand if you just want to stay at home and dink with your friends ?

If you are in possession of all the facts regarding the importation of the vaccine deliveries you may be right, somehow I doubt it.

In an interview with the BBC World Service, Mr Brown said the uneven distribution of Covid vaccines "is one of the greatest policy failures of our times" and had been caused by wealthy countries hoarding and stockpiling vaccines.

Is Mr Brown the husband of Mrs Brown from Ireland with all those children ?

While I don't recall any fellow pupil dying from the institutional bullying at my private secondary school, if expulsion were the result all second, third, fourth and fifth years would have been gone.

However my first year was the last in which it was permitted. Prefects were still allowed to beat juniors with a sand shoe, and I don't know when that ended.

those were the good ol' days.  Educational standards have nose-dived since physical punishment was banned in schools ????   Now kids going to university in UK can hardly write English or do simple maths ............

Id say banish the UK English and go full US English, its spoken by more people and makes a lot more sense to cater to those people instead of a minority.

English is the language of English people.  People in America used to speak English until they became independent and went downhill on everything - even managing to get a President ever more obnoxious than Boris the Great of England  (who was born in the US!)

Blimey, was it constructed from gold ? Happy to see the US are still doing well financially.

The price would make me think that, even allowing for an extravagant build quality, there must be some serious hardware tucked away inside.

Interesting strategic move, I assume this is is a display of soft power to certain groups in Thailand, and...not in Thailand.

This coming from a jealous Brit - we sold our beautiful Embassy in Bangkok for some pocket money and to make room for a shopping mall.

We also sold the beautiful consulate in Chiang Mai for pea-nuts  and, allegedly, the buyer did not hand over all the money ....

If it's a consulate at all then that's not its main use.

Back in the 1970's the US had a seismic station on Doi Suthep to monitor Chinese nuclear tests. It was linked to the Consulate by a special high quality 'phone' line.  This wire fetched a lot of money on the (black) market, so very often two men on ladders would quickly cut a section off between two posts at night and disappear.  There was a special unit deployed to mend the line.  Those were the good ol' days !

Remember the Cuba crises? The USA threatened with nuclear arms if the Russia didn't remove their base from Cuba.

The USA is 200 years at war non stop, what does that tell you? My country is bad too.

I remember the Cuban missile crisis. The US threatened to kick ass if the missile bases were set up.  The Russians backed off and war was avoided.

Now that US was dreaming of having missiles based on Russia's front door, the Russian threatened to give Ukraine a kicking if they didn't back-off.

The ever-expanding 'free-world' did not back off   .........   Now the West is surprised that the sh*t has hit the fan.
